    Oh my God, what a great topic! I have been craving really baroque perfumes all week! Here’s what I wore: Gold Woman, Ubar, La Panthere Parfum, Le Lion, Dioressence and today I’m wearing….drumroll….Vol de Nuit. I swear I’m not making this up. Ah, I love it all. Had to turn down the volume on Wednesday as it’s my day in the office - I wore No.19 Poudre.
    But I agree: it has to be Amouage all the way. I see J25 Woman in this list, Memoir Woman, Beloved Woman, Fate Woman…even Portrayal Woman wouldn’t be a bad choice.

    • @Persolaise

      Gosh, this is quite a list! Dioressence is another favourite of mine.

    I fell head over heels in LOVE with Coco when I tried it in 1984. I wore it exclusively for years and years. I have the EDP and Extrait versions. I agree with you about the Extrait, as it's softer yet the contrasts come out more, so that the Extrait has more complexity in a softer way. The dry-down of Coco is like nothing else -- intoxicating. It will be interesting to see what the house of Chanel does with it's 40 anniversary. Great review!

      What is the dry down? Is it iris or something ambery?

    • @CarryOn-Janet
      @CarryOn-Janet 7 месяцев назад

      @@R.N.19 It's a beautiful ambery/warm spice yet delicate dry down. Not iris at all. Not really floral at all. The dry down is the intoxicating part of Coco for me. WIsh the whole experience was like the dry down. Interestingly, Coco Noir has hints of the dry down from the first spray. So I love Coco Noir for that.

    I love this concept! Opium and multiple Amouage scents came to mind from the word.
    Vol de Nuit I thought at first wouldn't have been my first choice, but relating it to Baroque music, Vol de Nuit seems to suit Bach very well in my mind! Seemingly both reserved compared to more Romantic, operatic brethren yet such enigmatic depth.

    I have multiple bottles of vintage Opium.
    I use the Raiders of the Lost Scent as a reference guide.
    After you get bottles from the timeline, you start collecting auxiliary pieces.
    It's amazing how well vintage Opium ages and preserves itself.
    Some of the Krizia's age well also.
    The Largefeld splash cologne is the same way.
    I need to find more of the Lagerfeld, for I bath in it.
    I do the same thing with the vintage Armamis After Shave or Cologne.
    It's so nice. I get it all over my hands and just douce myself.
    That said, there's nothing like finding a vintage Opium.
    It truly is one of the best, ever.

    Love this original concept Mr P! Brilliant idea to pair art and perfume, both truly evocative subjects. Glad to have your recommendations of rich, opulent grandeur in fragrance. Among the houses I've recently sampled, The Merchant of Venice collection has some Baroque- esque perfumes - Vinegia 21, Arabesque, Rococo. The bottles are suitably ornamental as well. Petition to make a series of this concept. Several unexplored themes that your audience would love your take on - impressionism, cubism, surrealism and modern abstract et al. ❤

    I googled the new Lauders and they found interesting. I wish they had included Spellbound, but I’m interested in Azuree at least.

    Lol, I got a sample.of 1740 yesterday and fell in love with it. I've been looking for something that was more "masculine" that still felt sensuous. And I love how the spice and smoke and leather give it that strength and yet there is almost something edible, and sweet Maybe it's the patchouli and resins. I am going to certainly get a bottle when my 7 mil sample is done.
    Although..... I wore to a party and was asked to wash it it off. Of course, after the party, I reapplied to go to dinner with my bestie, who truly enjoys a strong and bold aesthetic. He kept on asking to smell my wrist to breath in deep. So it's truly a love or hate.

    • @Persolaise

      Oh wow, you were asked to wash it off? I hope the request was made politely.

    • @sanjapajovic8483
      @sanjapajovic8483 7 месяцев назад +2

      The request repudiates the very idea of politeness. The audacity!
      Although, if people are welcoming the idea of number of "compliments received" for each perfume they own (US market mostly, Id say) this is not tooo surprising.
      I never comment.

    • @petraroos3413
      @petraroos3413 7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I'm from the US, as I'm sure you could probably guess, lol. And I personally I have a bold and elegant yet quirky style that I've cultivated over the years. It's not everyone's cup of tea but I wear it with confidence and most appreciate it. And when they don't, meh, I'm not too fussed.
      My fragrance choises then follow a similar pattern. Bold, elegant but rarely demure. So if don't wear perfume for compliments. I wear it to create an olfactory mood and compliment my esthetic vision.
      And there's a trend, at least among the quirky circles in the US that I find myself in that perfume is seen as obnoxious and antisocial. Because some neuro-atypical folks (those with autism or chemical sensitivities) have environmental aversions and find it very difficult to have in their space. That and the fact that itself also seen as, how do I say, an old fashioned affection. Something uptight conventional folk wear.
      So.....yes I agree. Asking someone to scrub thier fragrance is super rude. 100% I would never do it. But fortunately perfume doesn't make me sick, either. So for me it's just a matter of "bad" taste.

    • @petraroos3413

      We could debate what is more intrusive or difficult to nagotiate- with oneself - other's olfactory or visual bad/obnoxious taste. Case in point : stark velour track suit or dubiois plastic surgery 🤣 I really have to rein in my preconceptions of a person based on that than say, some super sweet,bubble gum concoction. Still, I don't comment. I don't think peoole should be given that freedom - to influence your choice of perfume. Or clothes, for that matter.

It feels like the color of honey and deep ruby grapefruit. I can’t think of a better indulgent smell. Persolaise you are right about the release time of Opium, 1977, then Cinnabar in 1978. Thank you for always including one or two beauties that I have access to. I'm coming back one day, just to try Iris Silver Mist. I agree completely with your art selection for Coco, those warm red and golden tones. Might I suggest Ingres' La Grande Odalisque for Opium? My art history instructor in college raved about that picture for two lecture periods. He was a bit obsessed with Ingres. I will never forget walking into the Louvre (2002), and being welcomed by that gorgeous rockstar, Odalisque! One of the happiest moments of my life. Thanks for your delightful videos.

    Do we think minimalist is maybe trending in perfume world? The 90s had minimalist fashion with absolute perfume hits in Myake's L' Eau d'Issey and CK1. I don't see that happening now.
    My taste in perfume was inadvertently formed during the baroque peak of the 80s, so its the original Opium, the baroque extravaganza.
    Chanel Coco is the most baroque of the classic Chanels for me, but probably wouldn't occur to me as the idea of baroque. I do enjoy it but I don't love it; that's an interesting one.
