      Simcity 2013 had this system where you could for instance make computer chips at factories , then export those chips, or pump them into a factory that made computers and export those and they added to you own money,
      Skylines has that but very stripped down where you just zone for what resource exists (eg. oil) and you start getting cash from it, but it's a little "lite" for me. but don't get me wrong skylines kicks simcity 2013's ass all day long. just mentioning ONE thing that I DID love about it though, oh and the modular upgrades.

    "We want a single player mode that doesnt need to be online." "Well you can't, its impossible. The game cannot work without its online components." "Fine then we're not buying your game. "Okay, you can play in single player offline." "I thought you said that was impossible?"
    And they never acknowledged it.

    If Maxis/EA would have removed the limited small boundaries and had allowed for the creation of large cities in vanilla version of SimCity 5 it would have made the game great. The game certainly has charm, beautiful color, eye candy, American buildings and roads but sadly the boundary limits kill repeated game play for me.

    • @info0
      @info0 6 лет назад

      They removed that requirement later on. Also remember what Maxis/EA said when SimCity 2013 released: Cities are not build in a bubble.
      The way SimCity was intended to be played was to build multiple cities which concentrate on different things and contribute to each other. You think that approach is easy? It's actually challenging.
      I liked that and still like that approach. It makes you THINK. Add to that Cities of Tomorrow expansion and how your City changes when more and more High tech buildings rise. It's fun to watch. Graphically it blows Cities Skylines out of the park for me (shocking cause Cities came 2 years later and don't look as good as SimCity imo).
      I enjoy it. Also Cities without mods is worthless imo.

      IMO Cities: Skylines is the true spiritual successor to Sim City 4. I liked the realism in the SC series up until the 2013 reboot. It was truly a city simulation. The reboot seemed to devolve into a plop and watch game where building realistic cities was no longer needed. Cities: Skylines brings that back and I have high hopes for what it will eventually turn into if the Colossal Build team keeps up the good work.

      The ex-devs of Diablo and Diablo 2 created much better game than Diablo 3 imo, Torchlight and Torchlight 2. Think about it. If there is a demand, devs listen. Paradox released their City builder because there was no other like that on market (I mean SimCity 2013 was a disaster on launch and SimCity 4 although great, was released in 2003 lol).

    You must know guys that the Maxis devs idea was to build on the entire region and merge the city. But EA since that era thought that allways online was the future of gaming. So Behind the scenes there was a several problem of optimization because the server do the simulation like the client. So they needed to choking some aspect of the game. And they have working so hard to resolve this problems and indeed they couldn't concentrate in bugfix and new features like routing the mass transit. I feel so sad like the story behind SPORE 2. I hope that the series isn't dead because cities skylines hasn't the magic and the fun gameplay of simcity with wonderfull graphics. Cities skylines is only a good painter city

    I recently started playing Sim 3 and finally got an idea why simcity looked the way it did and why the sims kept using weird language and signs.
    It seems they were using the sims team to develop a city builder - otherwise I cannot understand how they completely failed to connect to their target audience.
    Online DRM mode for (usually) single player city builders?
    The promise of "cloud computing" for a better simulation which was the "reason" for online mode which was debunced within weeks of the launch.
    The graphics looked great, but the engine, game rules were just lacking, which killed the joy longerm. It was not possible to ban left-turns, there were no one-way streets or high ways, roundabouts, ... Sims would take the shortest route even if it meant going a single track dirt road while there was a longer 6-lane faster road available. Next they would inflate the number of simulated sims. In a city of 100.000 listed you might have actually 1.000 sims.
    I felt cheated, disrepected and lied to. IMHO the game should have never been shipped in this state - maybe even glasbox scratched and rebuilt. With andromeda this is an example that EA does ship games that are not comsumer ready and I will wait for the better ones to appear on GOG when they are hopefully patched or at least cheap enough to stand their bugs and shortcommings.

    Didn't pick this up until about the release of the future city DLC, and so, didn't encounter many of the issues that plagued the game at launch. I really enjoyed playing this game multiplayer with some friends and build the big projects together. This multiplayer feature however, is the only good thing about this game nowdays. City Skyline is better in every way, has hassle-free mod support through steam, and just looks and runs great on my PC. Same PC struggled with a full-size city in SimCity, and traffic was a nightmare to try and fix, and would usually run my cities into bankruptcy... not so in Cities Skyline... Only thing I really miss is being able to play multiplayer, and contribute together on a regional project. That idea was an awesome one, making a very much single-player game genre work in a multiplayer setting (Cities XL tried this even further back, but never really succeeded).

    The lack of portability annoys me more than it's other flaws, if I spend hours/days/months building up a city/region, I like to keep it in storage forever, at first you can not rely on EA servers, then comes the offline mode which I presumed they was great, and when I attempted to copy my region over to another machine, it all broke up, and then became corrupt on both machines. oh well, RIP SIMCITY 2013, I wait if there's a 6th sequel.

    Occasionally I go back to playing SimCity, but I can never commit to it for long due to countless bugs and game-breaking glitches. The worst of it is how the mass transit never seems to function properly, whether it is through the busses moving in droves (as opposed to, you know, spreading through the city and acting like ACTUAL BUSSES), needing to build 5 train stations to accommodate around twelve tourists each day, or cars that go up and down the same street for three days and blocking all productive traffic.

    The irony of the SimCity game makers receiving lots of complaints from their fans. I began to play the PC version of SimCity way back in 1991, and let me tell ya, this game has always been difficult to play and manage. I was never truly satisfied with the game play. I felt (and still feel), that the creators cheat us out of it. It's just a freaking game, they should have made it a lot easier, and it did not have to be so realistic! Why can't it be up to the players to allow crime, pollution, etc in their cities? I had successfully made all my citizens happy (100%) at least once, but my city looked bizarre and it needed more room. Years later, still playing it, even on the Playstation, and it's still difficult. Many disadvantages. SimTheme Park is A LOT worse. That game is virtually impossible to succeed in.

    Glassbox was an interesting engine in principle - but it sounds like the agent system simply can't scale well. Unfortunately, lack of scalability was likely a result of how the engine worked at a fundamental level (I wonder if anybody on the team was well versed in computer science). If they ever, ever want to bring back SimCity again, they're probably going to abandon Glassbox. I don't see them keeping it.
    That said - sadly, I think the SimCity franchise is dead. I don't see EA bringing it back. It'll probably come back if EA sells the trademarks and somebody else picks it up.

    I liked it and I still like it. Of course it was a disaster on launch, but you really shouldn't judge a game by its launch. EA had its deadlines, and they did not care wether the game was finished or not. I know and knew what the game was supposed to be. Now, in late 2016 I think everyone can say, that the majority of its problems has been fixed (although sometimes the AI seems weird. What I mean with that is, that your peolple need a job: I decrease living areas and increase shops and they just don't care...) Of course the map size is something you can discuss about, but that's just how it is. I don't think it completely ruins the game. I like the game and if I have the chance to play it with someone else, just hook me up!

      It's 2017, four years later, this game still has the same bugs that plagued it at launch and it's obvious EA isn't going to get off its ass and fix their mistakes or actually improve upon the game.

      TNT , EA still haves control over Simcity , and updates it very rarely and they are only very very minor updates.

      Try using Simcity Mods ... It's not bug free but allows you to have a bigger map

      EA makes unreasonable deadlines for all their companies. They alone managed to butcher so many great franchises for a quick, greedy, buck. Fuck EA.

    SSCOT- Is really a super good game in stile. Unique is the word, and Sim City is known for creating a new stile. The first SS was new, 2000 was unique, and 3000. SS4 was a better looking SS3000 :) Now- SS2013 .. totally unique with a deep industrial leaderboard HQ.. Regional LB Stat System.. 1000s of people play this game everyday because it is fun to play.
    Yes- I know all about Skylines- two totally different games. One is not better than the other- there totally different.

      Couldn't agree more! I really enjoyed Simcity however the issues, frustration and disappointment for some that came with the game can't be ignored and this topic is merely pointing out some of the issues that popped up in development and release.

    • @DrexelWorldNews
      @DrexelWorldNews 8 лет назад

      Understand- some people just cant get over it, all games has bugs. I admit this one is loaded with bugs- but most of them can be worked through. Besides not all issues is bad- some is good.. like the park glitch (free land value).
      I noticed most players can't create a good layout and therefore say- it is a bug (traffic glitch). Every big City faces a traffic issue in real life.. and SSCOT is no different- there is a real traffic glitch though, and it is in the GW sites (mainly the Space Center).
      I been hearing about SS6 coming out in 2018- crossing my finger's. Thanks for the post.

    I've never tried SimCity because of all the bad stuff I heard about it. I was a huge fan of the older Sim City games. One of these days I'll check out City Skylines, which I hear is what Sim City should have been.

  • @garlicjrmade6409
    @garlicjrmade6409 6 лет назад

    Boring game that has you spending most of your time repeating the same monotonous tasks like upgrading roads plopping small tree line parks and destroying large parts of your city for sewage and water utility buildings. The worst part about the game is you run out of space for many of the fun and interesting buildings forcing you to choose between having a boring grid city for high population or an fun looking city with low pop. I was really disappointing with this game as I grew up playing the original game on SNES and enjoyed its simplicity yet challenge of getting high population, this game looked like it was going back to its roots unfortunately left EVERYONE wanting.

    Still like the old Sim City, still like the look of this one. Still stick with Cities, because EA tends to milk a cow until only dust will pour out. And that cow are we. It's a shame, as Sim City absolutely had the same potential as any other City builder game. Let's wait if someone starts SC all over again. and FCK EA.
