I just purchased the new GoPro 12 along with the camera mod light and mic I also purchased the Volta and it seems like I can't use the cage???? am I missing something
It works very well, I went hiking and managed to record up to 8 kilometers of the route with TimeWarp, it was like 4 hours and I still had battery left. Highly recommended accessory if you want to record all your routes.
@holycrapghosttv4048 I don’t think so. I haven’t tried to before as I don’t use the zoom function on the GoPro. However, I’m not aware of a button on the Volta that does this.
I can't figure out how to rotate tha camera... I've tried pushing it around but it just feels as if it's going to break. Do i need to press somewhere or something to rotate it?
@nabarunmajumdar7197 Yes, Bluetooth will use more battery power but the GoPro info states this: Using the Pro Mic Adapter with Volta: You can connect your Pro Mic Adapter to the camera through the USB Pass-Through Door, then connect Volta's USB cable to the Pro Mic Adapter to provide power to the camera. You must use Bluetooth to change the camera settings if you want to use Volta's controls.
Great review. Might want to wear a lighter color shirt when reviewing future products. The black products gets lost against your black shirt. Keep up the good work!
Thank you. For the Hero 9 and 10 I like both the MOZA Mini-P and the Inkee Falcon. Inkee just released the new Inkee Falcon Plus and I am actually on the process of testing that out. I’ll share my thoughts on that one in a video once I am finished testing.
I like mine as well but had a few problems and I had to manually do the firmware. It is working fine now. I’ve been waiting on your video of the Volta. Good review as always!
@Greatdayforahike Thanks for such a great video. I'm fairly certain that I will buy one of these now. I am curious though, following up from your reply to a comment from a few months ago about the overheating issue. At the time you answered that you hadn't had any problems with overheating since using the Volta. Is it still the same for you now after several months of use? I film for long periods and overheating is something I have to have a contingency plan for. If the Volta would eliminate this problem, then I definitely need to get one. Currently, I film for up to 70 minutes at a time, but that is with swapping out the battery 3 times and needing to sit in the shade while the camera cools down before I can set off again. Thanks again - I love your channel - watch almost daily.
Thank you for your feedback and great question. So I still have not had any overheating issues. However, it is worth noting that I mostly use my GoPro to film brief clips at a time (each clip about 20 seconds to a few minutes in length). In other words I don't typically have the GoPro filming a single clip continuously for more than a few minutes. If you are filming lengthy clips in high heat outdoors and filming in a high resolution and frame rate it is still possible that the GoPro could overheat a bit on you whether using the Volta or not. I will note that all other action cameras I have tested out will overheat as well in high heat and with lengthy clips.
@@GreatDayForAHike Thanks for your reply - much appreciated. I will certainly keep this in mind, but no doubt I'll get a Volta soon enough anyway. Always enjoy your videos - you are one of my go-to channels. Have a great weekend. Best wishes from Australia.
Just got mine today and i got a deal at 100$ in my country that is 50$ of. Cant wait to test my New gopro 11 with this in a month when im gonna travel in Asia ☺️
great video I watched several of your go pro videos today and subscribed today as well. Any idea on the weight? I cant find it listed anyway wherre and Go Pro customer support did not have it listed
How long does it last you? Mine seems to drain super fast. I don’t have the GoPro on throughout the day. I only take a few seconds video then I turn it off but it drains the Volta in like a day of using it.
It does not drain as fast when using it as a remote. It has the Bluetooth connection draining it but that is slower drain than the battery powering the camera and charging it/maintaining the charge.
Yes, it looks like as long as temperatures are at or around 14 F or above this should perform well. If temperatures are colder I don’t expect the battery in the Volta to provide as much charge.
Depending on your use case(s) for it, this can be a great value or overpriced. I find it valuable due to the number of ways in which I can use it and not needing to bring along a bunch of batteries.
I prefer to keep my battery in. That way when the Volta battery has been exhausted I still have the charge of the GoPro battery to use in case I want to keep filming on a particular adventure.
@@GreatDayForAHike I was asking because I felt that without the battery the camera does not heat, what could be better. I did that in my last vacations, always keeping 3 batteries in my pocket, just in case.😀
That’s a great strategy and yes good point. I haven’t had the Hero 10 overheat on me outdoors even when filming in the highest frame rate and modes but if you’re in hot weather or a lot of direct sunlight it could be a good idea to have the battery removed for sure.
You can remove the battery from the 10 if you want to but I’d recommend keeping it in because then when the Volta battery runs out you still have a camera with 100% battery charge waiting to be used.

It also works with the GoPro 8, but only the battery and you have to buy an accessory to connect it to the Volta.
I appreciate your feedback and sounds like a great experience!
Can you zoom in and out on video mode with the volta?
@holycrapghosttv4048 I don’t think so. I haven’t tried to before as I don’t use the zoom function on the GoPro. However, I’m not aware of a button on the Volta that does this.
I use my solar power station to charge everything and it works very well
Solar power stations are a great option for charging electronics.
I LOVE MINE! I really want to do a video review as well! :) GREAT JOB! #Travolta
Thank you! Yes, it’s a great new product.
Thanks for the tips but I still can't connect my volta to the camera. I have Gopro hero 12, creator's edition. Any tips on how to connect it.
I can't figure out how to rotate tha camera... I've tried pushing it around but it just feels as if it's going to break. Do i need to press somewhere or something to rotate it?
It does require quite a bit of tension to rotate it. It will by default rotate 90 degrees with each turn before you encounter higher resistance again.
To be clear you rotate the top of the Volta where the mount the GoPro attaches to is located.
@@GreatDayForAHike it works now, thank you very much
Great!
When i plug in the volta usb to my mod it, the controls r not working. Any tips pls. Thanks in advance
Make sure the GoPro is on the latest firmware version. If it is, make sure the Volta is paired to the GoPro via Bluetooth.
@GreatDayForAHike but can't I use the USB instead of the BT. Connecting via USB will save a tremendous amount of battery, won't it?
@nabarunmajumdar7197 Yes, Bluetooth will use more battery power but the GoPro info states this:
Using the Pro Mic Adapter with Volta:
You can connect your Pro Mic Adapter to the camera through the USB Pass-Through Door, then connect Volta's USB cable to the Pro Mic Adapter to provide power to the camera.
You must use Bluetooth to change the camera settings if you want to use Volta's controls.
@GreatDayForAHike Ohh...thanks a bunch for this info. I wasn't aware.
Great review. Might want to wear a lighter color shirt when reviewing future products. The black products gets lost against your black shirt. Keep up the good work!
Thank you and you’re right, I should have considered that shirt choice when filming this. Thanks!
Does the Volta solve the overheating issue?
No overheating issues so far with the Volta. The GoPro stayed powered on while recording with no issues including in 5.3K 60 FPS.
My only criticism is the Volta lacks a small ball head for uneven ground, if that was designed into it, pretty perfect
Valid point. That would be useful for fine tuning of the placement and angle of the camera.
Great review. I think that it could be a useful addon for the GoPro. Could you suggest me a good gimbal for GoPro?
Thank you. For the Hero 9 and 10 I like both the MOZA Mini-P and the Inkee Falcon. Inkee just released the new Inkee Falcon Plus and I am actually on the process of testing that out. I’ll share my thoughts on that one in a video once I am finished testing.

The Volta officially weighs 369 grams before attaching anything to it.
I really appreciate your support!
@@GreatDayForAHike thanks and about 3 ounces for the one (1) enduro battery?
Yes, that sounds pretty accurate.
How long does it last you? Mine seems to drain super fast. I don’t have the GoPro on throughout the day. I only take a few seconds video then I turn it off but it drains the Volta in like a day of using it.
Does the volta drain battery fast if just using it for the remote?
It does not drain as fast when using it as a remote. It has the Bluetooth connection draining it but that is slower drain than the battery powering the camera and charging it/maintaining the charge.
But the bundle doesn't give you any discount then just buying seperately lol
If you’re a GoPro subscriber there is a bit of a discount.

Now I'm curious how the battery perform Volta vs enduro...?
I view the battery in the Volta as equivalent to about 3 Enduro batteries as far as the power duration that is offered.
@@GreatDayForAHike oh wow that's impressive ..I'd love to see how the Volta perform during ski or winter activities!
Yes, it looks like as long as temperatures are at or around 14 F or above this should perform well. If temperatures are colder I don’t expect the battery in the Volta to provide as much charge.
