I am consuming a lot of your content. I have commented on other videos to support the Algorithm but now I have a question. I want to buy a gopro for filming the fall salmon fishing season for my other channel. I have Generic kits for generic cameras(mounts etc.) I am thinking of buying the GP 10, media mod, 512 sd and a separate 20000ma battery pack for all day recording, but the Volta videos have me thinking twice. Is it worth the money? . anyone please put your opinions... PS I know how to pickup your Amazon tag for a purchase.
This is going to be very cool filming myself mountain biking. Set it up, hit record, ride away and have it record me hitting a jump or feature and not worry too much about the battery.
For those that have used the Karma Grip, the Volta controls are very similar, minus the highlight button and gimbal controls and you get great stabilization with the Hero 10.
I'm so glad GoPro designed a vlogging handle making this more of a go to camera for vloggers. I love the convenience of my GoPro Hero 10 Black but always had to trim the beginning and end of each clip where I reach to turn it on and off. That makes for a lot of additional editing so I would use my Sony ZV1 more for vlogging. However, the Sony ZV1 does not have that hypersmooth stabilization that makes my theme park ride videos look so good. I feel this Volta is going to be the game changer I've been waiting for.
NOT worth it: Have been using it for a couple of months. It mostly functions as small tripod/grip and together with the mediamod is to "complicated". Sometimes not charging, sometimes not pairing and the whole pairing thing should not be necessary at all. It is too unreliable. I love my Gopro 12, but I think I loved my old 7 more. Now the new model is overheating, slower startup and yes together vith the Mediamod and Volta it causes too many issues. Sorry to say I would be looking another direction when I am buying my next camera.
My internal GP10 battery went to 10% and the camera shut down and would not restart. The volta was connected and 3/4 charged - but it did not power the camera. I pulled the internal battery and the GOP10 did start back up and record. Normal? Thanks!
As a vlogger that creates sometimes 10-20 minutes lenght videos, weight of things that I carry on my hands is more important than pushing button and battery. I go for the basic one. thanks.

i can’t seem to get Volta to work with Hero 9 in the wired mode despite updating the firmware on the camera. It works in blue tooth mode but the fact that it doesn’t work in wired mode makes it worthless to me. i was hoping to get extended battery life

I’m planning to use it for travel vlogging and setting it down off the trail and then hiking thru the frame and also Timelapse’s sometimes I think a wider angle would be nice when setting it off the trail cuz you’d see more scenery or wouldn’t have to go as far off the trail to get a cool perspective
I like the Max Lens Mod for lots of things, but for most travel vlogging, simply switching to the Superview mode will do the trick (plus, the resolution is far higher at 5.3K vs 2.7K with the Max Lens Mod). Similarly, for a hike-through shot, the Max Lens mod will actually probably make things too wide, since it's really best for super-close stuff (like being on a chest mount while cycling/skiing, or perhaps inside a car dashboard). But for a trail walk-through shot, it'll feel far away and with the lower resolution, you'll lose a lot of detail. For those hike-through shots (which I do a fair bit), I just use the Superview on the camera natively.
Does it extend continuous recording time somehow? Maybe the Gopro 10 is designed to bypass the internal battery completely to be able to do this without overheating? Gopro 8 will drain the internal battery more slowly connected to a powerbank, but also will shut down from overheating before the battery alone would have run out. So an interesting scenario might be filming with the internal battery installed/removed and measuring how long it will allow continous recording without overheating.
The Hero 10 had the new video performance modes, which do help for ultra long recordings. Though generally speaking the main limiter for Hero 9 and Hero 10 overheating is FPS - specifically 60FPS. Going to 30fps virtually always keeps it running. I did try, and you are able to run the GoPro without a battery and just the Volta.

Does the included separate USB C cable fit the passthrough door so that the door can be used independantly of the Volta whilst maintaining weather proof integrity??

So I just brought me a hero10 travel pack last weekend to shoot my workout videos in the gym. And the battery sucks! I was excited to use 5k. Then realize it’s a lot of memory so slowly decreased the quality down to 2.7k and 1080 basic and the battery life just diminishes. Talking like 15 mins of video. And turning it on and off oe letting it standby while I do other things or rest between sets. Is that normal? I was considering this battery pack. Or should I get the enduro or whatever batteries first ? How do you manage to record using a GoPro
You mentioned older cameras just see it as a bluetooth remote… but my hero 7 doesn’t even connect. Should I be adding as a remote or as a Bluetooth device? Not a deal breaker, I see myself upgrading to a compatible model near term, but getting it to work now would also be nice

And, then, it's going to be places like K'gari (World Heritage Listed Fraser Island), Mulgumpin (Moreton Island) and snorkeling the artificial reef created by the Tangalooma Wrecks, and Mingerribah (North Stradbroke Island)

I would have been more impressed with an updated Karma Grip, I can still get better outcomes with a hero 7 on a Karma Grip than I can with a hero 9 just using hyper smooth
Yeah, I suspect the gimbal age is mostly dead for action cams (or at least GoPro), especially with the slight increases on the Hero 10 around horizon leveling. And that’ll only increase with bigger sensors each iteration.
@@Dcrainmaker too bad for that since in low light mode the stabilization does not work even with the latest camera...i use the hero 7 with the karma grip when I need to shoot in low light.
I wish GoPro would have taken it just one more step and made it a gimbal. Yes, the in camera stabilization is really good in the later model cameras, but a gimbal can really smooth out shots with abrupt camera movements, and they can be used to get those pan/tilt time lapse shots.

Okay weird question, but am I missing something on how to screw the GoPro in place on top of the Volta? The screw that came with it doesn’t seem go in well if you have the Volta plugged into it? I’ve tried a shorter one, but the camera seemed to sit at an angle because of the screw.

Hi Ray or anyone, can this be used as a battery pack for a time-lapse that starts from a scheduled timer in the GoPro. So a scenario where you would leave the go pro to timer start by itself, in the early morning or such, without having to initiate the battery pack with a button press. Most power banks don't have this and need to be initiated with a button press. Will this need to be button pressed as well, or does it come on automatically? Thanks
Ulanzi makes lots of great things, and I’ve been using their stuff for years (including videos on their battery door well before GoPro ever made one). However, the Ulanzi grip isn’t quite the same here, namely in that it doesn’t have any remote functionality. Of course, whether you’d use that is a valid question. The other minor design nitpick is it suffers the same top-heavy design small-leg as the GoPro Shorty, which easily tips over in wind (and the Ulanzi grip would be even worse since the battery weight is higher up). Still, always love extra options!
Hi DC, Thank you for your enthusiasm in your videos. I wonder how quiet the Volta is. Currently I use the Floaty grip and find that it is noisy. The sound of my hand shifting on the grip goes straight into the camera microphone making nuisance noise that ruins the video. I hope to wrap the Floaty with a terrycloth tennis racket grip to make it quieter. Thoughts about the quality of your video soundtrack as you adjust your grip on the Volta? Otherwise the Volta looks like a winner to me.
idk, this product seems like a last minute design effort that wasn't well thought out. I bet you everyone is going to have issues with the USB-C cable breaking.
Interesting. I currently have a GoPro 9. So yesterday I ordered (upgraded) to the GoPro 11 and bought the Volta also. I think it's a nice package and can't wait. It will be arriving in 2 days. FYI to Osmo Action 3 buyers...I was told the wait will be 3 weeks or more.
How is the Volta going with the GoPro 11? I've never been able to get the Volta working reliably with my GoPro 9. Both the camera and the Volta have been replaced by GoPro but the problems are still there.
@@johnfelan7586 It charged up just fine the 1st time. I was using a new charging cube that is a fast-charging 30w cube. I used it a few times doing some test videos. Then it wouldn't (the volta) charge up. Every time I pushed the battery button it would blink a red light 4 times. Figured out it meant that the battery was dead. So, I took out the 30w charging cube and used my "regular wall cube. Also used the charging connector that came with the Volta (not sure why but wanted to try and eliminate any variables) Plugged in the Volta (saw 1 white lite begin to flash) and now it works just fine. I really thought I was going to have to send it back!
I hate the gopro voice control it’s akin to talking to my kids just doesn’t listen, I feel like this is GoPro giving up on voice control under the guise of you can get better battery life as well as having recording control. Bit disappointed to be honest 🤷♂️

Here's the question I have. Suppose that I want to have three cameras operating at the same time. All hero 9's or 10's. Can the Volta be attached to one and still control all three? I know that the remote can control 3 different cameras. But it'd be cool if the volta could do this too.

How does this work with the Media Mod attached?
Does this battery make it viable as a bicycle "dash cam", i.e. an incident recorder? Having trouble picturing a mount.

How sure are you on the weight? You have it at about 8 ounces. Everything else I’ve seen says it’s 13. Thanks!

Yes, the new firmware actually enables the Volta wording. And also yes, just tried it on a Hero 10 with no battery installed. Works perfect.

They had the Karma Grip but obviously it wasn't very successful so they probably won't release a new version because there's not enough demand.

I think dji pocket 2 is much better in all aspect. Gopro is no more waterproof after this attachment.

Just get a Ulanzi battery grip and a ulanzi door and you have the same thing for half the price.
Ulanzi makes lots of great things, and I’ve been using their stuff for years (including videos on their battery door well before GoPro ever made one). However, the Ulanzi grip isn’t quite the same here, namely in that it doesn’t have any remote functionality. Of course, whether you’d use that is a valid question. The other minor design nitpick is it suffers the same top-heavy design small-leg as the GoPro Shorty, which easily tips over in wind (and the Ulanzi grip would be even worse since the battery weight is higher up). Still, always love extra options!

Hi DC, Thank you for your enthusiasm in your videos. I wonder how quiet the Volta is. Currently I use the Floaty grip and find that it is noisy. The sound of my hand shifting on the grip goes straight into the camera microphone making nuisance noise that ruins the video. I hope to wrap the Floaty with a terrycloth tennis racket grip to make it quieter. Thoughts about the quality of your video soundtrack as you adjust your grip on the Volta? Otherwise the Volta looks like a winner to me.

Why would it break? It’s the same design they used for half a decade on the GoPro Karma Grip without issue.
Can I use this power grip with DJI Osmo Action? I mean beside acting as a power bank, will all the other functions usable?

Interesting. I currently have a GoPro 9. So yesterday I ordered (upgraded) to the GoPro 11 and bought the Volta also. I think it's a nice package and can't wait. It will be arriving in 2 days. FYI to Osmo Action 3 buyers...I was told the wait will be 3 weeks or more.
How is the Volta going with the GoPro 11? I've never been able to get the Volta working reliably with my GoPro 9. Both the camera and the Volta have been replaced by GoPro but the problems are still there.
@@johnfelan7586 It charged up just fine the 1st time. I was using a new charging cube that is a fast-charging 30w cube. I used it a few times doing some test videos. Then it wouldn't (the volta) charge up. Every time I pushed the battery button it would blink a red light 4 times. Figured out it meant that the battery was dead. So, I took out the 30w charging cube and used my "regular wall cube. Also used the charging connector that came with the Volta (not sure why but wanted to try and eliminate any variables) Plugged in the Volta (saw 1 white lite begin to flash) and now it works just fine. I really thought I was going to have to send it back!
can you still add an external mic like the DJI wireless mic while using the Volta or with this, you can only use the GoPro mic?
Yup, as long as you use the media mod.
At some point it will go off because of heating. Why do I need more battery power?? They should fix heating problem if they can.
They already fixed the overheating problem last fall with a firmware update.

I'm using the DJI Mic, but the Rode LAV with it.
I hate the gopro voice control it’s akin to talking to my kids just doesn’t listen, I feel like this is GoPro giving up on voice control under the guise of you can get better battery life as well as having recording control. Bit disappointed to be honest 🤷♂️
Yeah, I never use the voice control. Just not my cup of tea.

Interesting new mount from GoPro, and does solve the battery life issue for most users. It's seems a little overpriced, but I will probably get one anyway. Great review, and I love your new location.

Here's the question I have. Suppose that I want to have three cameras operating at the same time. All hero 9's or 10's. Can the Volta be attached to one and still control all three? I know that the remote can control 3 different cameras. But it'd be cool if the volta could do this too.
No, it unfortunately only controls/pairs to one at a time.
