  • The Amityville Horror, we all know the story. A man possessed by an evil spirit murders his family in the sleepy little town. He’s sent off to prison. Shortly after, a new family moves into the house where the murders took place and are overwhelmed by dark energy that is so overwhelming they flee the home and all their possessions in 28 days. Excellent ghost story, right? But what if we could hear the origins of this story. The story of what the actual murderer believes happened that night? Not the one that was told to media cameras and reporters. But the story that was said behind thick cell block walls, iron gates, and barbed wire. Today, we hear that story. We hear what Ronnie Defeo believes really happened that night in Amityville as recounted by a former cellmate of the infamous killer today on a combined special episode of Real Ghost Stories Online, The Grave Talks, and Dark Side Of.

    I lived in Amityville at the time of the murders, and my stepfather owned one of the two funeral homes in Amityville. The bodies actually went to the other funeral home, but because we were the funeral directors’ family, then out of a courtesy to us, we were permitted to come to the competitor alone and see the DeFeo family in their coffins. So it was just those six bodies and my mom, my brother me and my stepfather in that room. I was only 12 and Marc was either 12 or 11. I remember standing there and staring at his dead body, and thinking he was my age. The father‘s face was over-embalmed, but it could’ve been because he had been dead for 18 hours before he was removed from the house. nobody else was over embalmed though. I later found out that Mr. DeFeo weighed 270 pounds, so that could’ve been why his face was so fat. But I do remember my stepfather saying that he was over embalmed, and that he could’ve done better. The entire thing was surreal, and when that movie came out, I realized I was probably one of the only people in the world who was with those dead bodies alone, except for my immediate family, because at the funeral, there was more than 1000 people there. I did not go to the funeral, there was no need to. But I never forgot what six dead bodies looked like and I never seen anybody who had been murdered before.

      My dad was around 280 when he suddenly passed. They had a hard time embalming him due to his weight. They had to take him to 3 different funeral homes in my tri county area to find equipment powerful enough to embalm my dad. The funeral home was very transparent with us about that issue. My dad looked over embalmed to me. I think they have a harder time embalming larger bodies. I worked in oncology/hospice for 10 plus years. It definitely makes you contemplate when you see people your age or younger deceased.

    The only one who knows what happened that night are the deceased members of the family and God. I hope these people rest in peace. Criminals lie. And they're not above it for a hustle. The only reason most of the inmates didn't mess with him is because he claimed possession. Who did it? I think the justice system got it right. Why? Because a real possession is not something to make light of. He went to prison and he was never allowed the privileges of a free person again.

    Ron Jr has changed his version of events so many times, I don’t put any emphasis on anything he says. Out of all the different scenarios I’ve heard, I’ve never heard anything about a cousin being involved. I’ve heard Dawn was involved & killed John, mark & Allison, which I believe is BS. The fact that Ron Jr never metioned Geraldine to this inmate, or that he was unaware of Geraldine, his first wife, tells me this guy is possibly making this whole thing up.

      He DEFINITELY had help, and one of the participants was his sister, Dawn; I believe the other was Bobby Kelske. Two different guns were used, that's a proven fact; Louise was the only one who had 2 different bullets in her body. The parents were shot first, with Ronald Sr. being killed by 2-22 caliber bullets, Louise had one 22 caliber bullet along with a bullet of an entirely different caliber, then the kids were killed, all with the 22 caliber rifle. This begs the question, why would he shoot his dad twice with one type of rifle, then shoot his mom once, lay the rifle down, grab a pistol to shoot her a second time, then finish the rest of the murders with the same gun he started with? That makes no sense; it didn't happen that way. I believe Ronnie Jr. when he said his mom was shot but was still alive, so his friend Bobby, who was also present, used his own gun, a pistol, to "put her out of her misery." This was the same pistol that was recovered some 40 years later in the Cole St. Canal, just a few minutes away from the DeFeo house....right where Ronnie said they threw it into the water. I also believe him when he said that when he left the house and then came back, he discovered that the kids were all dead as well, went upstairs and confronted Dawn, a struggle ensued, and he shot her to death for killing the kids. There were actually THREE murderers in this case as far as I'm concerned, and one of them got away with it.

    This guy is such a liar. Ronnie enjoyed his family life? Okaaay! And what cousin? Ronnie shot his father, he and his friend Bobby then shot his mother (2 different guns were used), Big Ronnie got up and Dawn then shot him a 2nd time, killing him in the doorway. Dawn then killed the kids to eliminate witnesses when Ronnie left the house to get rid of evidence. Ronnie then in turn killed Dawn ... Bobby helped Ronnie get his 270 lb father back into the bed.
    Ronnie told his wife Geraldine this story. He and his lawyers tried to prove this version and actually found the evidence to prove it. There was so much corruption on the side of the police, his lawyers eventually told him it was in his best interest to plead insanity.
    He then came up with the possesion story and hearing voices in his head to back up his insanity plea. He told Geraldine he'd plead insanity, colaborate with the Lutz', among others, on the Amityville Horror book and be rich by the time he was released ... This guy's just looking for his 15 minutes of fame and continues to contradict himself because he hasnt done his research!

    Either this guy doesn't know what he's talking about, or he's making it up, or Ronnie lied to him. It's a well- known fact that Ronnie has changed his story about the actual events of that night many, many times over the years, but the one that seems most plausible is the one where Dawn, his buddy and himself actually did it as another buddy stood watch outside; only the parents were supposed to be killed. After he left to dispose of some of the evidence, which included that pistol, Dawn killed the kids; when he got back and saw what she'd done, he killed her. The unburned gunpowder on her nightgown are consistent with her having fired a gun that night as well.

    • @Thomaspain85
      @Thomaspain85 2 года назад +3

      There is no evidence that Dawn participated in the murders. Before you point to the powder, remember that it was found on her nightgown, not her hands or cheek. The powder likely came from being shot at close range. Second of all there were no evidence of a second gun. All shells that came from the bullets that were fired that night were accounted for and bullets were put through ballistics and shown to match Ronnie's rifle. I would recommend better sources than anything created by Ric Osuna or Ryan Katzenbach.

    • @jamescarrington5521
      @jamescarrington5521 2 года назад +10

      @@Thomaspain85 Nope, I disagree. Everyone who knew that family said at the time that DAWN was "the most volatile" of the DeFeo kids; it's a known fact that Dawn wanted out of that house and she wanted her father dead. Also....when you have a veteran homicide detective like Herman Race ALSO saying that Dawn was involved, I tend to respect his his credentials and I believe him. Another thing, Sherlock....the autopsy reports; all of the other victims had already passed through the rigor mortis stage, but Dawn was still in about the middle of the rigor mortis stage, which indicates that she was indeed killed MUCH later than the others, proving Ronnie's account that he left the house for several hours to find his buddy and bring him back to help put his father back into bed, dispose of evidence, etc. Those kids were very much alive when Ronnie left; Dawn was still very much alive when he left to do this; she had been instructed to get the kids up and take them to their grandparents' house, but instead, once he left, she killed the rest of the family and then waited for him to return. If she had already been dead, then she, too, would have been well past the rigor mortis stage, but the fact is, she wasn't. This then begs the question: if Dawn wasn't part of the murders at all, then why did she remain in the house and never once try to call the police, an ambulance, DO ANYTHING to help her family?! By now there had been 7 shots, SEVEN....all but one of which was fired by that high-powered Marlin Rifle; you cannot ever convince me that she slept through all of this noise! In fact, there's evidence to suggest that all of the remaining victims WERE awakened after the first shots were fired. Trying to prove otherwise is just a fool's errand; the autopsy reports, the different stages of rigor mortis between Dawn and the rest of the victims....the science tells the story, and I believe in science. Why is it STILL so difficult for people to grasp the fact that women are every bit as capable of murder and violent crime as a man is. One only needs to look back 5 years prior to that night in 1974 and remember what those young women were capable of doing and DID do, to actress Sharon Tate and 6 others in early August of 1969. Dawn was an integral part of this, no ifs, ands, or buts. I rest my case.

The fact that Dawn was known to be the most volatile of the kids did NOT only come from Rick Osuna; it's been written about prior to that book in a few publications. At his trial, Dawn's friend, Grace Fagan, testified to one of many incidents she witnessed in that house, where Dawn got furious about something and screamed as she ran up to her room, "I'm going to kill you all!" I suggest you do a bit more research, you armchair detective, before you sit back and correct others and their findings of research, myself being but one. I'm sorry that YOU still don't see "any evidence" as to Dawn's participation; your evidence is right in front of your blind eyes and deaf ears.

You can all me an idiot all you want, but it's not going to make the holes in the theory go away. By the way, I have been researching everything surrounding the Amityville saga for over twenty-four years and I can honestly say that the only part that is a bigger load of crap than the Dawn-did-it theory, was the claim that George Lutz was a warlock that had powers that would make a Sith lord envious. The same goes for the experts that you have relied on, who have commented on this case decades after the fact. Personally, I think I would go by those who did examine the crime scene and the bodies. Who also said that they found Dawn in a natural state, with no bruises or any other signs of a struggle. I guess Dawn decided after killing her brothers and sister to put on her nightgown and sleep on it before getting her head blown off . Also, you commented on her rigor mortis setting in later than the rest of her family. You do realize that there isn't an exact time table when rigor mortis sets in, right? Some bodies take longer than others to go through this process, which probably explains why the medical examiner didn't bend an eyelash.

    Omg. The documentaries of Ryan K…will change your whole mind. I was little when the movie came out. In CT I remember kids talking about Son of Sam or Jonestown and we were in maybe 2nd grade. But never this DeFeo murder. The movie overshadowed his story. This documentary has Geraldine DeFeo speaking for the 1st time. That night you didn’t know who was going to kill who. House with weapons and drugs and money. His family was connected through his grandfather’s Buick dealership. His father had a hit out on him allegedly. And the FBI was wiretapping the whole time trying to make a case on the organized crime aspect. Even Geraldine was connected, admittedly, through NJ. But this was Brooklyn. Where Ronnie was working for his grandfather. He dropped of cash to judges for his family. He knew and did drugs with the Lutz’s. I came away thinking he killed his dad and didn’t care cuz he beat his mom and everyone. I think his sister shot the mom, who pulled a gun in them when they went in her room. Then the theory was his sis killed the little ones b/c they’d tell and he then got mad and killed her. She had gun residue on her nightgown. Whole family was dismal and insanity. Also, evidence that people were moved to the beds. I think his crew of guys were there to help. It’s a case of this fascinating mob story that surpasses good fellas. And this was same era in NY. I’ve been going in about it since I saw it. I was so shocked. Apparently Amityville Horror 2 tried to tell story if DeFeis. I don’t think I can send links. There’s an hour interview with Ronny. I found it credible. You guys have to warch it. The documentary is narrated by Ed Asner and directed by this Ryan K. I think Ronny was heard to the mob life and knew he was going to kill at some point and the other guys were making their bones. Ryan k.

    I don't know who the host of the show is but he doesn't sound like he's a dimwit so it begs the question why he would even have this guy on. You don't have to be intelligent to surmise that this guy had nothing to offer when you vetted him prior to bringing him on as a guest.
    All this host had to do what state the facts of the medical examiner report for each of the victims. The bullets that were recovered from the victims were the same caliber as the ones that were found at the crime scene. There was no second shooter.
    Instead of spreading bullshit how about you just stick to the facts and put this story to rest.

    The funeral director said they cut up people and burned them alive?
    The house used in making the movie where they put the daughter on the dock after she frowns, if you look across the river and see the cars, you can stand where the cars are you can see the house, the water is Tom's River.
    If you're looking at the house and turn to your left, walk stright to the traffic light, turn right, walk up one block, turn right, just keep walking stright till the road has a curves to the letf, you take last road before that curve go stright down a tree lined road. The house on the left where they filmed the movie is there. If you've seen thr movie you'll know the house when you come to it.
