I knew George and Kathy Lutz from the early 1980’s until their passing and they were dear friends . What they told us together and separately was always the same. Upon talking to the priest he validated their story as well as his experience. They all said, the book and all following had been embellished on and didn’t stick with the truth. They both kept their children away from any publicity or conversation not only to protect them but give them as “normal “ a life as possible. The things they went through scarred them until their passing. RIP always Kathy and George. 😔💔

In my mind that if anything was going on it was of GL's making, whether real or some kind of mind games who knows? But the fact that Cutler and Anson admitted to making up the story for RD's defense and sell books. Andrews possibly to divert attention from the heavy mob connection to the family. (Sr. embezzling from the Buick dealership.) It makes sense to me that Dawn or others were involved due to the crime scene.
It's also of note that no subsequent owner has reported any activity but it's hard to imagine a house where a whole family got murdered not be "haunted" in some sense.

There's never been any mystery for me with this story, once I actually understood the facts had nothing to with the movie..Butch was a junkie and he killed his entire family on his own,he harbored resentment for everyone except his mother, which is why he used the handgun instead of the rifle..He killed everyone because it was the only way to ensure he inherited everything..That residue found on the nightgown could've been due to contamination or improper storage..I think I read somewhere that there was a storm that night or high winds, something atmospheric was occuring which drowned out the sound of the shots, that's why the neighbors heard nothing but the dog and those in the house heard nothing as he moved floor to floor..
I don't believe that place was haunted, that family traumatized their children just to gain fame and fortune..That pic is a fake..This happened during the time when satanic panic was a thing and people simply wanted to believe that only demons can drive someone to do something so horrific but the reality is that greed and revenge, coupled with drug induced psychosis can drive anyone to do anything..

    • @Dunika

Agree on everything but the fact that he acted alone. It is possible that he and his sister planned this to get the money (she wanted to run away to Florida, was also a drug addict and hated her family) and then he killed his sister, probably because he wanted to inherit everything and/or feared her turning on him.

That the haunting happened after the killings
is entirely plausible as well as probable.
Tragedies by such malevolence always draw to the place where they happened evil spirits or as the new agers say negative energy & bad vibes.
But Ron DeFeo Jr. was entirely responsible for the killings & not ''the devil made him do it''.
One possibility is that the Sr. DeFeo in business on the shadowy side of semi-legality with the mob, had dabbled in occult practices to protect his status.
Moreover he was described as ''abusive'', had been less of an inspiration & more of an object of contempt & hatred for Ron Jr.

Another brilliant recap guys! I’m just wondering why the ‘extensive toxicology’ done during the autopsy’s didn’t show any results of drugs in the bodies - especially with Dawn being an addict herself. Also, if Ronnie was a heroin addict and in withdrawal then it’s not surprising he changed his statement from the beginning, he probably didn’t have a clue about what he was saying!

I remember seeing another picture inside the Amityville house of the other investigator who donned a similar haircut of the ''ghostboy'' in the picture, and the other investigator also wore glasses.
Which if that picture took place at the same day, same time of day and in the house, then that picture of the ghost boy is actually the second investigator and the ''white eyes'' could be a reflection from his glasses.
If you look closely at the ghost child in the picture, you can actually see the rims of glasses.
The ghost child is supposed to be John Matthew DeFeo, and when you look at all the other pictures of him when he was alive, there are none where he wears glasses, and the family has plenty of pictures of each other, the chances of not having at least one with John wearing glasses would be very very slim.
In addition; I don't see any pictures of anyone in the family wearing glasses, maybe I'm missing something, but I'm leaning on the likelihood that the ghost child picture is an investigator who wore glasses.

It seems to me that the Lutzes saw a business opp from the get-go. They probably followed the trial and knew the whole history, bought the house for a song and wrote a fiction based on true. In reality, the murder happened, but I don't think the haunting did. They made out big time!

One of the DeFeo neighbors did hear the shots she admitted it years later she didn't want to be involved.
When my sister and I stayed with the DeFeo family the summers of 1973-74 there was something wrong with the house. Mrs. DeFeo had to buy a new washer and dryer. There was black stuff in the water lines. It skank to hell and back. In fact my sister became so sick our dad came and got her. The next day I got sick and he had come get me.
I told my dad that Mr. Ron hit Miss. Louisa and she was wearing sunglasses in the house. My dad took me back inside we waited for Mr. Ron to come home. My dad told Mr. Ron you ever hit her again you won't hit anyone ever again. That's why I've always thought the Mafia had something to do with the murders. I don't use or drop my dad's name but when he said something you listened.

I thought I’d heard everything there was to hear about the Amityville horror but dang you told me things I’d never heard! 👍🏻 I can tell you I lived in a haunted house that a man was shot to death in... records show suicide.. neighbors questioned murder. Not everyone experienced the paranormal in the house. My sister never did. I did all the time. I saw whatever was there and it wasn’t fun at all. Especially once I was an adult and moved back in years later and was home alone during the day, it was around me constantly. My father experienced it and my boyfriend when I was in my twenties. My dad bought the house, also for super cheap, when my sister and I were little kids. I have no idea if any new homeowners experienced anything.. my dad sold the house shortly after the worst of the experiences and I’ve never been back since but it’s only about 45 min from where I live. Anyway guys .. great video!!! 👍🏻👍🏻

It's absolutely true that not everybody is aware of supernatural beings (whatever you want to call them) Our house where I grew up was haunted, all three of us kids saw her pretty regularly, and in later years my Dad admitted that while he never saw her, he could "feel" her presence when she was around. My grandmother, Dad's mother, also saw her once while visiting at our house, and my uncle (Dad's brother) and two of his children saw her standing on our front porch one night while they were waiting for us to come home. During my childhood, my Mom taught English and Business at a local business college, and we offered boarding for young ladies who couldn't afford an apartment near the school. We had a wide variety of young women stay with us over the years, and a couple of them moved away suddenly, saying they couldn't sleep in the house or stay around due to the ghost bothering them. Most of them didn't see a thing.

I am not one to dismiss the supernatural & I know that haunted houses are for real,
although my once & only brush with the supernatural was fleeting, but terrifying.
That said, although most hauntings are supposedly by people suffering violent deaths,
the most terrifying occurrences are in houses where seances were held or
      where black/white magic were practiced.
The spirits conjured up never left, & they are much more vicious than what we think as mere ghosts.
For sure the malevolent ones more often than not want to make us believe they are just spirits of the dead.
      But they are demons.
Edward Bulwer-Lytton's masterful 19th novelette ''The Haunted And The Haunters'' made it clear.

I'm a little older than RD so I've been around awhile. Since the beginning I had no problem believing that he killed his family. A few weeks ago I starting looking into this case again. Something hit a nerve and I began in earnest to dig deeper. A few hours ago I noticed something strange. I now question if RD killed his family. I reside in a rural location. We have acreage that is surrounded by private land greater than ours. We have guns and my nephew does some target shooting. We also have dogs. Not once have they ever been bothered by gun shots ... but, don't be a stranger and attempt to transverse the land. They will let us know at anytime of day or night. The neighbors stated they didn't hear any thing that sounded like gun play, but the family dog was barking. At that I had to wonder, where was the dog! If it had been in the house it most likely would have been a problem and been taken out. As it turns out, Shaggy was outside. If RD was coming or going I doubt the dog cared. If a stranger was moving about he is going to make noise. My guess is that an unknown person was involved. Maybe someone should have paid more attention to the dog who unlike RD can't lie. Note: RD was a drug addict? Having done the 60's I've known a few. Most on the junk he was into can't walk and talk. So you think he systematically killed 6 people and pulled it off without making a real mess? Forget it!! As the sibling of a detective it would have taken two persons. One would have taken out the major opposition that being the father. The mother is easy. The other would have moved to the farthest one that being Dawn. They then would have gone down stairs and taken out Alison while the other went into the boys room. If done military style it would have taken about 7 minutes. No one is going to bother with the dog as that shot would have to be done outside. So, who could do that and why? Do your homework.

    • @susiecorus7842
      @susiecorus7842 Год назад

@@joshuafox9789 That depends on what involvement is. Do I think she might have entertained the elimination of her father so she could have her freedom? Yes, but a lot of teens I think have pondered that. Do I think she was part of what happened? No. In fact, I don't think Ronny Jr. was even in the house at the time. His statement at the bar is very telling. If I have this correctly, he said "I (think) my (parents) have been (shot). From the looks of things figuring out they were shot is not rocket science. Notice there is no mention of 4 others in the house. To view his dead parents, he had to pass by 2 bedrooms where others slept. If he was at the bar around dinner time, where did he think his siblings were? He appeared to be very unconcerned about their welfare which makes me wonder if he thought they were even in the house. A family of 7 at dinnertime and there is no activity? No ... he never went in, he went straight to the bar.

Been interested in this whole labyrinth since the story broke in the 70’s. The prosecutor, Gerard Sullivan, wrote a book about the trial and evidence called High Hopes which serves as a factual basis for Osuna’s work. One of Ronnie’s ex wives (Tracey) used to run a message board where she posted a boatload of documents. Wish I’d thought to download them all. Anyway, there are a few people who know pretty much everything about these cases on the Amityville FAQ forum. It’s a goldmine of info. Anyway, nice to see a podcast that doesn’t simply rehash the accepted version of events. Kudos to you!

You two are the BEST! And, my father always told me, if you want to know why most things happen in life, follow the money trail!

Is it possible that it started out as a money making scheme but then turned into a real haunting after all the trauma that happened there? Maybe the Lutz family had greedy intentions but then freaked themselves out in the process.

I live on Long Island NY an this has always been a big story here everyone knows about it... My brother was in prison with him... They did have a lot an I mean a lot of mafia connections... The truth a couple of the little ones woke up when they did Ronnie held them at gun point and forced them to lie face down... The handicap brother he rolled him over before shooting him... This is what Ronnie told my brother while in prison...

but that doesn't explain why all remained face down after the first shot was fired. they should have tried to run after the first shot. it also doesn't explain why the neighbors never heard any of the shots. the shots were very loud and could be heard a mile away.

I mean Ronnie sr owned a Buick dealership in Brooklyn in the 70’s. Classic cover at that moment in time for extra cash....

The brother wasn't handicapped. He had a sports injury and used a wheelchair for awhile.

@@blacknight2149 it was Ron’s maternal grandfather who owned the Buick dealership not his father.
His grandfather employed Ron senior basically so his daughter,Ron’s mother had some money coming in,Ron senior also did the books for the dealership, two sets.

I know this sounds crazy, but a friend took me to the house (we were only outside and we pissed off the neighbors who started flashing porch lights). Someone came out of the house and yelled out "there's nothing to see here!" Imagine my face when the pictures I took of the house from the road came back with orbs in most pictures! I can't explain it - but I have a cool story. ✌ I really enjoyed your video.

Orbs in night photos/videos are insects and dust particles...that has been scientifically proven many times over.

See, I've always wanted to visit the house but I figured that so many people do it & the neighbors may be tired of it, so I don't want to add to their frustration. I'm that neighborhood stays busy.
