FRANCE: FUNERAL SERVICE OF FILM DIRECTOR LOUIS MALLE

Hundreds of mourners have turned out to bid farewell to legendary French film director Louis Malle at a funeral service in Paris.
Among the mourners his widow, Candice Bergen, actress Jeanne Moreau, underwater explorer Jacques Cousteau and other faces from the stage and screen.
Malle, who died from cancer last week, was famous for films such as Pretty Baby, Atlantic City and Au Revoir les Enfants.
A simple service at St. Sulpice church in Paris on Friday bid farewell to one of the world's great cinema directors, Louis Malle.
Born in northern France, Malle died last week at the age of 63 at his home in Beverly Hills.
He had been severely ill with lymphoma for several months.
Amongst the famous faces attending the French funeral was Jacques Cousteau the undersea explorer who Malle worked with on his very first film.
In a career spanning more than 40 years, Malle was best known for taking on subjects as controversial as incest, French collaboration with the Nazis and child prostitution.
He is survived by his wife Candice Bergen, star of the TV comedy series Murphy Brown, and his daughter Chloe.
Bergen followed closely behind the coffin as the funeral procession made its way out of the church.
Hundreds of spectators lined the pavement for the event.
Famous French actress Jeanne Moreau was also present at the ceremony to pay her respects.
The world will remember Louis Malle for the freshness and sensitivity he brought to subjects ranging from the frivolous to the grim.
He showed he was not afraid of exploring taboos and challenging the huge audience who remained faithful to him to the end.

I´m somewhat confused -why says it almost everywhere Malle died of lymphoma while according to Candice Bergen in her memoir he had PML (Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy) a fatal inflammation of the brain-Lymphoma on the other hand has a survival ratebetween 60 and 80%
