Activists Throw Soup on Mona Lisa to Call for Food Security

- Activists have taken aim at arguably the most famous painting in the world. Two people threw soup on the Mona Lisa at the Louvre in Paris. They crossed the security barrier and shouted at museum-goers. Their shirts read Riposte Alimentaire, French for Food Response. They demanded a Sustainable Food Social Security system, similar to the country’s health care system. It calls for more sustainable farming and better access to food for all. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.
I don’t understand activists who use this sort of tactic. How exactly do they expect to win people over to their cause through vandalism? It only succeeds in angering the very people they wanted them to hear them out.
It definitely sent a positive message through the art world. I take it you aren't in the community?
@@Feliphezotell us you're pretentious without saying it.
@@napoleonbonerfart278 Simply explaining that it worked as an activist art piece, and that it clearly did send a message.
He meant that it wouldn't work on artists and art-lovers, but it did. Therefore 'I take it you aren't in the community?' as he clearly can't be, or he'd know.
I don't see how that could be ostentatious at all, unless being into art is pretentious by default for you.
Took the words right out of my mouth
@@Feliphezoexplain lol how did this do anything besides get them some jail time and waist food 😂
Damage to property has never been justified for whatever reason and it's punishable
What about the Berlin Wall
it's a painting who cares. more important things out there
They’re goal isn’t really to actually damage the painting, you can see it’s protected, people that do this just know it’s going to get media attention, which it always does, so you kinda gotta give them credit, it’s pretty effective in getting people to listen to them.
Boston Tea Party 1773.
Not doing enough for people, animals and the planet is never justifiable yet goes on cos politics is too slow and little action. Actions speak louder than words! When the world ends because of human greed that’s the same as violence reigned on the world by people due to their selfish greedy ways. Violence is happening all around us just cos it’s not manifested in a way the eye can clearly see doesn’t mean it’s not happening. Abuse of the world is violence against the planet and there’s no comparison between the planet and a picture!!
They sure showed that glass case who's boss 😂!!!!
Stupidity has no cure
There is a cure, they’re just too stubborn to accept it.
@@Thomas14717Exactly!
I agree!✅️✅️
How does wasting food by throwing it at a historical artifact support food security exactly? If anything it kinda sends the opposite message. I’m glad they had that glass panel in front of it though.
That's what I was thinking, "they demand more food by wasting food?"
Whatever man dont waste your time thinking about such absurd
I agree. It's the opposite message to the one they want to have. It's so dumb and destructive. Thankfully the art has glass infront of it. Not all art has glass infront of it.
I know right
Attention. That said, given that they didn't throw the bowls at the display, I don't think they had any legitimate intentions of damaging the Mona Lisa.
Imagine this is your first and only time in Paris going to see the Mona Lisa, and then this happens
Someone once said "art is food for the soul", but it doesn't mean it can be thrown right back at it. 🙄
Janitor’s work load matters

This is not only an act of disrespect to Mona, but to Leonardo DiCaprio, the man who painted her before he boarded the Titanic to draw Rose naked!
What!
Lmao
Do you mean Leonardo da Vinci
@@krpyton7368 It's a joke
😂😂
They better be punished
For what? Nothing got damaged.
@@nate6045stupidity. could've been at a food bank volunteering, writing letters to their government, etc. instead they attempted to deface artwork.
@@ntrlstar People have been doing that for years and food scarcity has been getting worse. That doesn't raise awareness. Protesting does. They didn't attempt to deface anything. They know it's protected by glass.
@@nate6045 They still committed a crime.
@@nate6045and if a person were to jump off a bridge, would you? weak excuse from someone who lacks a valid argument. you can't fight to solve hunger while wasting food trying to be a so-called "activist".
Strict action should be taken against this act. So that no other activist would ever cross their limit
If it meant getting people's attention especially on the plight of global warming, food insecurity, they will do it over and over again.
@@PuffOfSmoke Lock them up for a decade, and I guarantee they will not act on their stupid whims!
YES. THE POOR JANITOR THAT HAS TO WIPE THE GLASS EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT. WHAT A WASTE OF FOOD TO PROTEST.. UH WHAT NOW? 😂😂😂
To be fair, there was glass in front of it and they knew that it would get attention without hurting the art
yeah, they didn't even throw their bowls or cup at it. There was zero intention to actually damage the painting.
Mona Lisa must have been a big meany head to them
These types of activists make us go against their advocacies despite their noble causes.
Why is it that people find the need to throw soup on paintings
Why is this so common😭😭😭
Because it doesnt damage anything, it gets them press coverage, and people talk about it. It's pretty effective.
Because they haven't been made an example of. They realized that sitting in the road to block traffic wasn't working out so well, so now they're just throwing tantrums for attention
@@blakebrannam8658 This wasn't a climate change protest. This was for food scarcity. 🤦♂️
@@nate6045 same tactics, knuckleheads going about it the wrong way. The French farmers did a fantastic job of showing the world effective protest, these clowns just want attention for themselves, not the cause
@@nate6045 People should talk about their lengthy prison sentences!
But they’re wasting soup 🤦♀️
Not real soup
Wow you accomplished so much, congratulations
"We want food security" says the people throwing food at priceless art
It's only priceless because people decided to make it so. Nobody should hold an object to such a high esteem.
@@YOTSUBA_desu That is what your parents think about you too
Why is she wasting Food?? 🙄🙄🙄
Shame on Mona Lisa for not supporting good security!!!!
Although I’m not a local of Paris, this made my blood boil.
How could they ruin this legendary piece of art!
You shouldn't deify a painting
@@YOTSUBA_desu yeah that’s what I want to preach about.
Leave paintings alone👎🏽
@@teenagecarlover1567 You did not comprehend my post.
What did that painting ever do to them.
That was totally unacceptable
What did mona lisa do??
Believe me that painting is protected by Fort Knox
The hypocrisy of calling for food security while actively wasting food in the process
My point exactly, throwing food at the painting. Protesting about foods sources.
Somebody should make them start looking up at the ceiling
If you ever feel dumb, remember that this ladys exist
They might see the hypocrisy of throwing food to promote food security. I am an artist and I 'm seethingly angry about the painting. It shows their complete disregard for people's work not to mention the historical value and treasure of the past that it is. They should be made to stand in one place, watch and pay for the restoration that will take weeks, if not months and do communily service for 2-3 years aiding art teachers of 3 year-olds.
This is the problem with these types of people. They have no respect for other people's property rights and they run around with their false fantasies trying to force it on everyone else
Why not target grocery stores why glass cases of paintings 😂😩
Neither one has anything to do with "food security."
Not the Mona Lisa and not the waste of food 😢
But what about the person who had to clean the mess?
Why didn't they show off those honkers?
Cuz it’s not Canada! Duh! 🤣🤣🤣
Life without parole...thanks.
GenZ and a Karen at its finest
What does painting have to do with food security?
"Better access to food for all"? Well I think they accomplished their mission. Think of how many people see the Mona Lisa and now all those people have access to free soup. Incredible act of generosity!
I could see the Mona Lisa's smirking behind the glass case at the two prison inmates.
It's unlikely DaVinki would be happy with them.
It's Leonardo DiVance
So many ppl feel the need to act out to feel important… if you want to make a stand and do something important actually be and make the change, vs throwing soup at art like a toddler.
"Hey you know whats a great idea to get people into our cause? lets throw soup on one of the worlds greatest paintings! Surely everyone will love to join us!"
This is getting out of hand.
This people need to made an example.
Legit to think that stray kids were literally at this museum and protests like this happened. This is just a disgusting display, I’m glad this painting had glass covering it
So they're wasting food and trying to destroy art? And they think that'll get them free food how?
Was this real painting? Was there glass frame or not?
also the painting is probably a replica. the real one is kept safe somewhere else.
wowzers
Clearly, age does not define maturity. One of them looks like a grandma already.
Their 'spirits' won't be good sitting in a jail cell on federal charges.
They looked like they were ready with those drapes 😅
Mona Lisa has seen more action than my whole life
Not soup! Im sure its not protected in anyway! But youtube is here to give them publicity, thank jesus!
I support food security for all citizens.
This just makes me want to use more plastic :)
Why did you do that to the painting
I really hope the museum puts up glass in front of the painting like some museums do.
Theres bullet proof glass protecting it
@@Danny_Ninjago_28 I hope your right.
It's actually contained in a safe, the whole frame and everything is a secure safe. So yes, it's well protected.
@@JoshR813you’re*
So they protest about the food social security system but yet waste food by throwing it on a famous painting as a way of protesting thats a big brain move
what does throwing soup at a painting make their point?
They destroyed an iconic piece of art known all over the world, they wasted food that could’ve gone to the homeless and they completely glossed over their little cause by damaging property.
The Mina Lisa usually is covered in glass, why was it taken off??
If you watch til the end they said it was covered in glass so no harm was done to the actual painting
They ain’t destroy nothing just made a fool of themselves
"Activists Throw Soup on Protective Glass in Front of Mona Lisa"
Who ever throw soup at the monolisa painting will be arrested for transpassed and tampering with painting and glasses
They should be arrested for this
Activist after learning the soup they'e thrown could've secured a childs' food security for lunch: 💀
Why is there no security guards
Wasting soup to throw it on a painting
Really helps improve food security, definitely
How can they do that? Leonardo DaVinci is awesome
I’m not morally opposed to this kind of protest but I think it’s really ineffective once it has already been done. The reason why the Van Gogh soup attack got attention is because it was a new idea for a protest. The novelty has worn off and people aren’t going to care anymore.
This isn’t how you get your way by throwing soup on a painting
Glad I’ve seen it before..
I was hoping to hear that it was protected, thank god it was. Idk why but it genuinely scared me to think the painting was damaged
Throwing food at art is a criminal act, not a protest.
They obviously have no idea what goes into farming and the extreme cost It takes to produce food. Too many mouths to feed to be completely sustainable, It has become impossible.
this is not a protest its vandalism
Talk about irony, they want food to be given through their cause and yet wasted it through a pointless act.
What’s the Mona Lisa half to do with this 🤦♀️.. if they want to be heard maybe they should do a friendly protest instead..
whats the point of having security if foods gets into the building??
Ugh . When will they learn
***Discontent intensifies***
They kept the Mona Lisa behind glass, that's f*cking smart. Unlike the fools who wasted food.
Oh lord it looks like a mom and daughter 😔
That ain’t even the real one
Maybe don't put their whole manifesto in the description like they'd want you to. Unless of course, you love this behavior and want to empower ppl like this.
These people make me hate them and their cause. Knowing that I am an ecologist and a vegetarian, that's definitely a counterproductive action.
attacking a 520 year old painting is a really odd protest. and wasting food as well.....
What makes these activists think throwing soup on a painting will make a difference. It just makes you look like a joke.
So… they want food security but they’re WASTING food by throwing it on a famous painting protected by glass. 🤔
they probably seen it was protected by glass and that was why they thought it okay to throw food on it. Would rather spend a night in jail then forever in jail.
The got passed the security barrier. 🤨...they just got under the rail lol.. it's not like it was oceans 11 😂
WOW… NOW THE JANITOR WILL HAVE TO WIPE DOWN THE GLASS 😂
Really shouldn't be promoting their 'message' for them. That's why the museum covered them up and led people out, to prevent this in the future if the terrorists know they won't have an audience.
That’s crazy
Doesn't exactly look like their food was so secure
That's a replica, the real one is locked in a vault.
what kind of soup ?
But at what point do you draw the line?? How does attempting to defile the legacies of long-gone artists help anyone?? This only adds to the problems
That is a replica painting, the real one is in a vault.
THE MONA LISA?? THEY COULDVE PICKED ANY OF THE MILIONS OF PAINTINGS.. that should honestly be a federal crime i think it is
Is there a glass covering
There is such a thing for sustainable food security........it's called a job
