The slap on the bonnet and the smile said it all Scotty, the old boy would be proud 👌
Dyno numbers mean nothing.... You got ya Dad's old girl back and better than it was........You now get to keep memories alive....... Thats priceless.....
On this Episode of Dad's old Chrysler Ute...... Scotty plays with his shaft, Channels his inner Clarkson with a hammer, Shows the wind in his hair and adopts the name "Finds More Power".
The Old Man's Ute series has been great Scotty. I hope to see more episodes on it in 2022. Despite the "setbacks" you've done really well bringing the old girl back to life. As a Holden Ute owner, it's been a fantastic ride.
Scotty no amount of horsepower can replace how happy you look with dad's ute moving under her own steam!
🎉 Thank you for your openness during the time that you provided. It was great seeing all the skills you have with the obstacles you faced. You have given me confidence 😅!!!
Your dad would be proud. She's a lovely girl 😍
160hp (maybe) at the crank to 260hp atw is only part of the story. Nearly 300ft/lbs of torque in such a light ute will be a heap of fun. And it works!
p.s. loving the new camera/editing styles (and smart alec bits).
Yeah, the original slants never had 160 at the rear wheels in factory form.
@@MrCav74 "145hp" and "165hp" was the number on the side for the 3.7 litre Slants, and was supposed to be the power at the crank, but that was when it was measured without alternator or water pump and fan. Both were rated at 215ft/lbs (280Nm). Historically, Chrysler has always marketed the products with a lower number then what was actually measured. We can safely say the 145hp Slant with manual put 100hp to the tyres, still more then an an EA Falcon 3.9 or VN Commodore 3.8 :)
@Slow Learner - VE/VF Utes were quoted in the owners manual as something like 1250 kilos? Slightly smaller VC's supposed to be about 1200. Though I've heard of VC sedans that are supposed to be 1330 ish kilos being measured a little over 1500.
@@PiDsPagePrototypes I drove 3 slants over a 15 year period as everyday cars, one of them had bigger valves in the head, cammed the motor and it had over 130hp at the rear wheels in the 90's, but the rest of the motor was far from standard. They were never a good motor to rev over 6000rpm with the original counter weighted cranks, some people used to use the ford cranks in them. They produced a lot of torque early in the rev range but the HP was pretty poor in NA motors.
@@MrCav74 One of my VC's runs the Clifford repro HyperPak and Carter 4bbl, even its out of breath by 5000, but the mid range pull, it might as well be a 273 or 318 between 2300 and 4500. Most daily driving, up shift around 1200rpm 😁
About the only setup I've tried that would breath to higher revs, was twin two barrels on a Speco manifold, but that high up, it was away from where the cam was useful, but did hunt Hemi6's nicely.
Love the "Page Up" reference! Eat It! Bloody Awesome video Scotty, perseverance pay's off big time! A way to look at it is; "Life is an adventure, so go live it"
Thanks for taking us on the journey with you Scotty, it's been the highlight of my Fridays
Lookout dyno here comes the Val... Awesome job Scotty, you have done you father proud.
great job getting the old man's ute up and running. i'm sure he'd be very proud of what you've achieved
one of the most enjoyable builds of late, passion and rewarding results from some challenging times. Looks and Sounds really nice too!
Great work Scotty - thanks for showing us a bit about tuning carbs which many of us would have no experience with. Found that really interesting. Don’t focus too much on the HP figure it’s not what this car is about. Cheers 🍻
Thanks, it was really satisfying to make those changes and find more power with every change. I believe there is more to be had
Well done mate the old man would be proud
That's a true sleeper, Love it.👍👌
Mainline dyno ftw!!!!
318 is a great little mopar.
Great work Scotty. Maybe a budget turbo 265 for your other Val. Then a performance showdown!
Scotty's rego fundraiser haha
So glad to see it up and running Scotty. Been following dads ute since Scotty's Garage days. 260hp is still pretty stout, jump in drive it and enjoy it mate. Well Done
Dad would be proud
Awesome outcome Scotty, your old man would be super proud I’d reckon! 👌🏼😎😍
I'll be 56y/o in four months. Hello from across the ocean. I grew up in Texas, USA. Came here to watch building the 318 and then the whole car of course. The 1989 DodgeW150 in my profile pic has a 360TBI. Iv'e had this truck for twenty years. Currently stripping the by now beat up body from off-roading of it's front and rear Dana 60's to swap onto it's same color red/white 1989W150 clone I purchased last year. The clone has a 318TBI. The mechanical language your using at times I have to figure out once your pointing at stuff. Like this new nice driveshaft you bought. As long as I've been messing with cars here, we have always called it a driveshaft. The tail-shaft would be the rear of the auto transmission housing that bolts on. A t least over here I think that's what we all go by. Keep up the good work over their.
Yeah, we use some different terminology but we're all car people. Thanks for watching I hope you enjoyed it
I've finished watching this playlist of your Dad's Ute. Very enjoyable. It does sound beaut. No doubt better in your face/ears. I like your method of instruction, plenty of detail without being dull. Again kudos to the camera work. Matt ?
Matt is the man
Mate you did it, you got it done in the shity time's were in and it's definitely stout. I love it.
Great outcome ,after all the headache,s You will be able to sleep easy tonight. Haha. Great video mate
Must be a great feeling scotty to drive your old mans ute after all the great work you’ve done👌
Great work Scotty!! I'm dead set really happy for you that it's sorted out now! Your perseverance has really paid off! I'm certain your old man would be very proud! Keep up the great work as always mate!
Good onya Scotty. Your old man would be proud and you'll be grinning like a kid driving the Valiant around. Thumbs up to Matt too for the camera work, very good!
that's a great result Scotty , I bet the way it drives will feel fantastic on the road when you get it registered . 👍😁
Dad should proud, this thing seems to beat the stuffing out of you constantly.
All kidding aside, she needs more of everything......more cylinder head, more cam, more compression, more efficient convertor. That good running street setup will get rowdy to make that 40-45hp jump.
So keeen! Won't skip to end for the dyno reading to start again. Will be patient hahaha.
Was a bit surprised by the number I kept thinking 3-325 and the torque was there. Quite surprised with the CFM of the heads and how much that cam can rev that they weren't square numbers.
I thought the ft lbs would have slightly surpassed the HP but not as much as it did. When were you revving it to? What rpm did the torque start to drop off ? It seemed to make 250 for awhile before it got the 260 .
Page Up for power!
Loved it Scotty, every episode.
I saw what you did there....sneaky "page up" on the laptop. Didn't help too much though. Good to see some old school tuning. Your dad would be proud Scotty!
Im a Ford Guy, but i now know i have always loved the Mopar. Favourite build. Awesome
Near 260rwhp in a relatively light ute, will be pretty entertaining. I think it's perfect. Well done.
Congrats Scotty, looks mint
Love it the hole journey what a beast cheers Scotty and all the boys
Good job indeed Scotty! If I recall the factory rating for a standard 318 (upto 1971 anyway) was 230HP. At the crank. And you’ve blown that number away by 30 plus HP at the wheels! Well done mate, alright, it’s not going to rip your head off in a drag race running 9’s, but it’s not so cranky that you can actually enjoying cruising it on a warm day, at 100kmh an hour without it pinging it’s head off or the temp gauge needle trying to hit the peg…should be a really nice reliable cruiser mate, and let’s be honest I reckon 260 in the Ute with no weight over the back wheels will feel like 400 in about the two or three seconds it takes when you start to smell that burning rubber through your quarter vent windows! Cheers for the journey Scotty, it’s been great for us MOPAR guys (and girls!)
Maaatttee!!!
I would be proud of what you have done no matter what the number is !
She looks stock as a rock !
Sounds mean as !
What a cool car 🚘
Your dad would be lovin it
So proud!
If nothing else, It sounds tooooo Good.......
Awesome outcome
I was starting to get saddened when there was no KT26's shot. Thankfully the cameraman sneaked in a clip. Seriously though congrats Scotty the rig is sounding sweet as
Awesome outcome so far Scotty. Once she is run in give it another go on the dyno.
But you will be frying those Pizza cutter tyres all day long.
Should think about club rego so much cheaper for rego and insurance.
sweet ute M8!!
Well done you can pick up the Last 50 hp later looking forward to see the ute again.
What a awesome series.
Dad would be so proud. Just gotta drive it and appreciate it amazing work. Good power and torque keep up the videos
Good to see dads ute all up and running he would be proud scotty
Well done Scotty your Dad would be proud
Good job, have some fun in it
The ol val lives again nice sounding beast can't wait to see her at heathcote raceway sometime soon with the turbo taxi
Didn't quite get the numbers, but nice solid demonstration of old school tuning there Scotty!
Best bit though, is that one clean bit under the bonnet from the oven cleaner...
Yep, the oven cleaner works beaut. Need to do it all
"its got a bit of pickup" god damn that was good. lol.
Winning !!
She's the ducks guts Scotty, love it, great job 😎👍🏼
I have vague memories of seeing Dicky Johnson do a buildup/writeup of a 302 clevo in Streetmachine WAYYYYYYY back when. Nothing super fancy or lumpy. Think it was only a TQ20 hydraulic cam and mild port etc. He promised between 300-350 hp at the engine and reckoned that in a X series car with a bit of a stally and 3.5 gears it should run HIGH 12s...... You are making the same power at the engine , so I'm expecting great things when it hits the track.
Makes good noises💪
Respectable numbers and way more than the old slant.
Sounds sweet too
260rwhp and sounds damn good! And Scotty smiling like the Cheshire Cat!
Yeah, I think it's still a bit tight. Loves timing, and I think it wants more
Are we sure it's only part 26 ? Really would have liked few more Ep as I love dad's UTE !!!
Loved tagging along on this journey on your Dads Ute Scotty, learned a lot was really interesting thank you
Hit it with the go gas and she'll bump the power up. Great job Scotty really enjoy the show.
😀 picked up a seal driver kit on Wednesday to do the trailer bearings
Great build Scotty, I love this Ute.
What about a bit of crowd funding to get this Ute registered.
I’d be willing to donate some cash!!!
Pretty respectable numbers for what she is and yep they are a light weight body so the power will be felt a lot more.
Down the track? Fuel injection and spark management will probably make things gruntier but the closer you get to 1 Hp per Cubic inch the more you gotta fight for gains and the more expensive things get but you also start breaking things to get there if you push it.
Sounds SWEEEET btw.
Top job guys 👏
Excellent job Scotty sounds nice regardless of the power!
sounded tops Scotty!
Don't be disappointed in the hp Scotty. With this build it should be more about Smiles Per Hour not MPH. Good to see you smiling again mate.
Thanks Scotty
The old man will be smiling down on you mate. Good stuff!
K26 Dunlop "lucky" shoes for the win !!!!
It is making goog hose purres. Nice. Well dad it is goes well. 😉👍😜
Great job, Scotty
No 300hp, but still goes like the clappers and puts a smile on your face-the old man would be stoked 👌
Sweet!!
Probbly the first and last time a Valiant will break a dyno, so this one is on another level.
Well done mate. Long time coming and your dad would be proud.
Good stuff scotty!!! Happy to see it all coming together for ya!
I was taught timing for torque fuel for horse power .
Great to see the old girl running well can't wait to see it registered & on the road
Another piece of History lives on, thanks Scotty 🍻
Glad you enjoyed it
Great job Scotty. Glad to see no "carnage" this time.
Scotty!! Crowd source some rego fella. I’ll throw in a pineapple!!! 😉 #getdadsuteonthebloodyroad
Who’s a happy Chappy. Well done. Sounds sweet. Just enjoy it now. Take care m8
Far out!! So good to see the ute on the go! Great work Scotty!!!
So far so good
Well done Scotty, great to see it driving again 👍
Nice work to you Scotty you posses a gift a handful of us oldies have as the lyrics in the song "Peter the cabby - Redgum" "He tunes his motor with a timing light in his ear..... Though you were using a timing light and a fancy one at that. But also good work to the boys at max performance after your ute demolished their expensive dyno they were good sports and still allowed you to do runs on the roller dyno.... I have such nostalgia messing around with metering rods changing jets adjusting the air/fuel ratio screw and also base throttle those were the days though I was thinking and I presume it would of been done before but a 4.0 Intech or Barra with one of those carby's you already gave me the specs I was originally thinking a 4 barrel double pumper holly on a intech people do judge the crap out of carby engines but they are reliable and hell they make brand new ones to this day like the one featured in the ute so goes to show the technology isn't completely obsolete... Again good work
She’s come up well Scotty, great work
Very nice
Great job and I for one look forward to seeing more dad's Ute in the new year. 💪
She's perfect scotty. I love her. And bet she still runs sweet in another 30 to 40 yrs
Aye Scotty! Well I think well done, I think I said it’d make 270, and what you’ve done is fantastic. I’m sure your father would be proud.
My dad hated my Valiants, if it was up to him I’d have done up an Austin Tasman!!!!
Noice absolutely loved how it sounds seems very peppy love seeing the older cars like this getting some love great work mate
Beautiful job Guy's, you must be stoaked 😄
The Ute was such a fighter, not only content with making life hell for you, but the dyno place and the manufacturer. Truly impressive.
Great to see the final product, you've got every right to be stoked and proud!
What torque did the ol boy make. The 318 was a torque monster.😜👍
Roughly double the original horsepower is pretty good for a relatively mild engine. The heads will be the biggest restriction but who cares as she's, pretty much, back on the road after a long sleep and those torque figures are going to make her a lively little number 😁
It's a stout effort from her m8 she does alright 🇦🇺👍
Been a great series, love Valiants.
