    I'm glad you showed the detail on those gaskets. Those gaskets would leak like a faucet in a 2 star motel!! I'm thinking about removing the 360 heads on my 318 for a set of 302 casting heads from the 80's. Possibly with 360 valve sizes. Also 100% on the Snap-on stuff. No, it is not cheap but I don't regret buying any of it. This is coming from a guy who broke the cheap stuff many...many times. Lots of my good stuff is hand me down stuff or came from the flea market.

      DR440 that’s how I am. It’s amazing how summit racing can keep cranking out those trash gaskets. I’ve seen a few people ask on Facebook about them. All I did was call, explain the deal and they sent me the felpros that I was wanted for free. That head swap should do you some good if you still have stock pistons in the 318. If I had a set of 360’s , I would have worked them over instead.these heads went on my 360 build. It revs strong on the stand, but I haven’t seen what it does in a car.

      @@JustMoparJoe Thumbs up to Summit for making it right! The 318 I'm working with is all factory lower end. I know that there is a trade off with 360 heads. What is gained in flow will be lost in compression. Nothing a trip to the machine shop wouldn't fix though with some shaving. Machine shops are rare in my area though.

    I just got myself a 1988 dodge d250 with a 318 small block last summer, it’s a great running truck, I’m going to build this truck up, thank you for the awesome video, helps me out a lot seeing what I need and can do to help the 318 out, I’m getting a 360 soon from a friend which I’ll build up from bottom to top slowly as money allows but I’m looking to do what I can with the 318 until then 😎😎

    The 1976 318 has a small port head and large port head on the intake side which works awesome for a four barrel intake. And with a little porting it makes a very good head. Because the large port head is almost the same size as the 340 or 360 and that large port 318 head has bigger valves. That large port head comes in the dodge D100 truck's and i have always used truck heads for 318.

      Douglas Dailey I believe I have a set from an old military truck. I’ll use them next time!

      La series 318 heads had only one port seize , one and only . On high performance models of the 318 the 360 head was used . A piston with a higher deck height was used because of compression lost from a bigger cc head chamber when 360 heads were used.

    I used Percy's/Taylor "seal for good" gaskets for my 318...multi-layered aluminum....they seem to work pretty well.
    Yes, the most emphasis on the port roof for exhaust porting without grinding through the bump (water jacket). 👍

      Thanks brother. I’ve studied a lot more on porting since I did these. But they work well on my 360 in my Barracuda.

    Hi Joe, if the header flange is slotted like the gasket at the inboard bolt holes on the outer ports, weld the slot with a filler strip of steel (weld what you can get at with it bolted down to minimize warping), grind it flat, then redrill the hole using a good factory gasket like an MS95480. The slotted area is where the factory gaskets seal because there is practically nothing between the port and the bolt to seal against. You mentioned using the magnum valves but they are shorter with thinner stems. I'd go with the LA 360 valves.

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  3 года назад +1

      Thank you. I actually used the LA valves from my cracked 360 heads. They worked great. These 318 heads are on my 360 build engine.

    if you use 273/318 manifolds and gaskets on a 340/360 you will have leaks and vise versa when putting 340/360 headers/manifolds and gaskets on a 273/318 .

  • @MoparMan-ff8fb
    @MoparMan-ff8fb 3 года назад

    some people know this and some people don't . when modifying stock heads you can also smooth out aka round the sharp edges on the end of the tuliped part of the valves . also don't use 340/360 gaskets on a 273/318 ! use fel pro stock exhaust manifold gaskets for a 70 dodge d100 truck with 318 from rockauto. if you use headers weld up the ports on the headers to match the ports on the 273/318 . and use above gaskets mentioned. make sure to spray both sides of gaskets with copper permatex spray and once fully dry apply permatex 700 degree gasket sealant on both sides as well. if you in large the ports make sure to do the same on the manifolds

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for sharing! I really try not to use manifolds unless I’m out of 💰. I like the felpros and orange RTV. I usually throw my headers on my belt sander and make sure they aren’t warped. I think I have 3 porting videos total. Let me know what you think.👍🏼

    I've always used the metallic face manifold gaskets and never had a leak

    • @JustMoparJoe

      There's no reason you can't. They remind me of a valley pan in a big block. Those water ports are the only thing that makes me nervous.

    I had the same problem with those headers. Maybe they fit a magnum better? I dunno I'm not that familiar with the magnums but it's the same problem with all the la heads I've tryed.

    Always use Fel-Pro intake gaskets when port matching

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  2 года назад

      I used the metal gaskets in this case. They align themselves in both the intake and head. These are 318 heads. So I opted for the 318 port size. If I wanted a better sized gasket, I’d have used the Edelbrock gaskets. They are larger than the felpros.

      Yea sir. Thanks for checking out the old videos! I was proud of how those heads turned out. They are on the 360 that’s going in the 65 coronet. Should be great for making lower end torque and moving that heavy car down the road.

    wrong exhaust gaskets = no matter what anyone say`s = not 318 ! unless you have 273 v8 heads ! look small !
