This is the most splendid performance of Cherubino I have ever heard/seen. Who says a boy cannot understand the finer points of the part. Aksel is brilliant. Oh to see him in full dress.
These are hard times on this planet. Thank you for helping me balance the very ugly with the very beautiful. A moment listening to you is a moment away from so much suffering.
Aksel Rykkvin I believe there is a great improvement here compared to the one you did at 11 years old. WELL DONE 👍❤ ruclips.net/video/_Bm6Qz-FCWA/видео.html
Revisiting this, I remember how thrilling your low tones were. I knew then that the change would yield a beautiful mature voice, in whatever range it turned out to be. And I was right.
Wonderful! Aksel's voice goes from strength to strength (although sadly it will probably not last all that much longer). This is one of the best renditions of Voi che sapete I have ever heard!
👏👍💖....unglaublich, mit wieviel Hingabe und Freude Aksel singt,.... eine wahre Freude, ihm zuzuhören!!! Alles Liebe und Gute weiterhin !! LG....aus Bayern 🎶☄
Dear Aksel, today the first time I heard your voice and then I surched all the other Videos from you! You sing with such a beautiful timbre and this aria with body, soul and heart, that tears came into my eyes! So beautiful! I love to sing my whole live (I am now 54) and working as a musictherapist with old people, so I know the magic of a voice. I wish you can become a countertenor, then you can behold the wonderful feeling of the high tunes going through your Body! I wish that you never loose your natural and joyful way of singing. Best wishes from Berlin Love Simone
Thank you for writing back. When I was young in 1986 cantatas from Bach conducted by Harnoncourt have been very popular, but I could not listen very long to the areas sang from boy sopranos because I always missed the understanding of the text/words in relationship to the wonderful music. I always thought, that it is because of the youth. Since I heard you,my mind has changed about this .Although you are very young your interpretation is deep and full of understanding and I it's very interesting and wonderfull to listen how you sing Bach and Haendel. And you are always singing the music under the spirit of the composer and not only the notes for showing how great your voice is. This is the secret of evry good musician - and this you really are. I am looking forward to hear you and (from far away) with more Bach areas perhaps in future live in concert in Berlin, then perhaps as a countertenor! I hope you can understand my words, ist's difficult to write all this in englisch. sincereley yours Simone
As you go off to military glory serving whiskies aboard the submarine Indomitable, how much fun might it be to learn and sing Piu Andrai as Figaro, the older baritone you, dispatching the younger you to the hardship of military service. This is beautiful - you imbue it with such emotion and real feeling. Bravo!
Hehe, interesting idea :) My friend Mathis from school has Non piu andrai on his repertoire, but I haven't learned it. It will have to wait anyway, because at the moment I need to concentrate on lieder for the concert in Stolberg.
Ma che bravo!!! Il perfetto Cherubino Mozartiano. La perfezione e la delicatezza delle note sono deliziose. Complimenti. Questo brano e' stato per me 'l' esame " al mio primo anno di conservatorio....
You're hands down the best child singer and certainly treble I've ever seen. I doubt we'll see your calibre for a very long time. I'm crazy glad that you recorded so many songs that we can continue to enjoy. Your talent is obvious in your ability to sound consistently incredible across all acoustic environments. Many trebles sound beautiful in large, resonant cathedral spaces, but fall short in situations like this where there is absolutely nothing to mask imprecision and poor transitions between vocal registers. This consistency extends to your studio recordings, as well. Many child artists today have their voices processed like crazy with tons of artificial echo and resonance added during editing. ANYONE can sound good with that amount of recording modification. But your albums sound exactly like your live performances. This fidelity is truly impressive and I think it'll be years and years until we hear another treble of your calibre.
Utterly enchanting. His rehearsal clips seem to obtain from him such a naturalness, a truth in his delightful trilling voice not necessarily achieved in the contrivances of commercialised audience sung confrontations.
Interesting difference in voice between a boy treble and woman soprano. Somehow you know almost immediately. The treble is more delicate, but mostly it's because of the metallic edge to it. Good to have found this.
Voi che sapete che cosa e amor, You who know what love is, Donne, vedete s'io l'ho nel cor. Ladies, see if I have it in my heart. Quello ch'io provo vi ridiro, I'll tell you what I'm feeling, E per me nuovo, capir nol so. It's new for me, and I understand nothing. Sento un affetto, pien di desir, I have a feeling, full of desire, Ch'ora e diletto, ch'ora e martir. Which is by turns delightful and miserable. Gelo e poi sento l'alma avvampar, I freeze and then feel my soul go up in flames, E in un momento torno a gelar. Then in a moment I turn to ice. Ricerco un bene fuori di me, I'm searching for affection outside of myself, Non so ch'il tiene, non so cos'e. I don't know how to hold it, nor even what it is! Sospiro e gemo senza voler, I sigh and lament without wanting to, Palpito e tremo senza saper, I twitter and tremble without knowing why, Non trovo pace notte ne di, I find peace neither night nor day, Ma pur mi piace languir cosi. But still I rather enjoy languishing this way. Voi che sapete che cosa e amor, You who know what love is, Donne, vedete s'io l'ho nel cor. Ladies, see if I have it in my heart.
His voice really made a stunning development, as he masters this challenging aria just brilliantly. The slight problems he shows in phrasing (sometimes a bit overmotivated) I think are more related to his breathing. Fine pronounciation though.
Pat Smart. No. He will lose his treble--admittedly an incomparably gorgeous voice--but his innate musicality will still be there. It is that which makes him such a gifted musican.
Definitely one of the most musical versions up there. You cannot teach somebody to react to harmonic shifts, as in 1:07. Aksel changes colour perceptibly, a beautifully apt musical reaction to what's going on there in the orchestra. One other shift is in 1:22 and the voice darkens (or 'despairs') accordingly. Either you have it or you don't. The change of atmosphere at the 'recitativo' segment - 1:35 is beautifully and naturally done. Also, the beautiful, free, reed-like legato on the 8th notes, reminding me of bel epoque singing (Plancon, Patti etc). The natural manipulation of colour means 1. that there's intense inborn musicality there. 2. Plenty of control of the soft palette, rare even with adult performers. Breath control is legendary. Lezhneva and Mattei are the only people who sing like that today, also Aksel.
I read your comment with great interest, thank you! Always very useful to hear what other singers think. This aria has been with me for quite some time now, and together with my voice teacher I still find new ways of expressing the emotions in it. I will show your remarks and references to her, I think she will find it interesting! I have enjoyed listening to Lezhneva for sure, the others I don't know so well. Again, thank you and best regards!
That's very interesting Kedem. As someone quite new to classical music, I had never liked soprano singers much. However I recently identified Julia Lezhneva as someone who I really enjoyed because her performances seemed to me more natural. Then I found Aksel and felt the same way. My friend asked how I can prefer a boy compared to singers like Cecilia Bartoli. Perhaps your explanation above helps to explain this.
This voice is called soprano for it is intended to define a boy's real voice, before it changes. Countertenor voice is a false voice or falsetto. A man can sing the same notes with technique and practice (and talent, of course).
This is the best rendition of the song I have ever heard. Simply amazing!
So great to hear, thank you! On my debut album, I sing it with an orchestra, you could check that out as well if you like.
Tempo giusto... la perfezione!
Now that is how it should sound.
Perfect! Perfect! That's how it should be sung and played. You'd make the perfect Cherubino.
Thank you, it would have been a great challenge I'd really like to do on-stage.
an aria sung by someone who is actually cherubino's age...how fitting
Yes, this is exactly what we thought when we chose this aria :)
Aksel Rykkvin I believe there is a great improvement here compared to the one you did at 11 years old. WELL DONE 👍❤ ruclips.net/video/_Bm6Qz-FCWA/видео.html
castrate quickly to preserve voice. thx
I think Cherubino is older, maybe 15 year old (in 18 century boy's voice broke much later than now).
Cheru ino would be a little older than 13.. 15 to 17.
Revisiting this, I remember how thrilling your low tones were. I knew then that the change would yield a beautiful mature voice, in whatever range it turned out to be. And I was right.
I am still amazed by his musicality, both as a soprano and now as a baritone.
Absolutely a voice from heaven
What a great voice and interpretation!
Wonderful! Aksel's voice goes from strength to strength (although sadly it will probably not last all that much longer). This is one of the best renditions of Voi che sapete I have ever heard!

Sung by a real boy! This made me think of Pinocchio, but Pinocchio can never sing like Aksel! Wonderful!
Wow Aksel
Brilliant performance in the correct voice, in character and sans big Ts it would fit beautifully into any production of Figaro.

C'est précieux, quant on sait que cette jolie voix va changer avec la puberté....par contre, la sensibilité, elle, restera; bonne chance petit gars!

Oh for that age when all human beings had to get up to in a room was practice on musical instruments, enjoy each other’s conversation and read books.
