Joyce Di Donato is a genius. A teaching genius. What an imagination, what an inspirational way of encouraging and leading the way to a "betterness". Brava.
Not really...
Meriç Eryılmaz agree, love the passion
Nope, she's a dreadful modern teacher. She knows NOTHING about the voice.
Meriç Eryılmaz oh really how about you

This is so inspiring as a high schooler who has been learning how to sing opera! Something to compare my performance with and learn from without comparing myself to a seasoned professional is a wonderful experience!
I love her way of teaching, explaining and showing, that she wants you to understand!
Ms. Joyce DiDonato is magnificent!.
A lot of the nuances of this or any part can naturally come with maturity as well. DiDonato is an amazing teacher. Miya, great job!
Dear Miya, I'm so proud of you for doing your best in a stressful situation. In my school days I participated in some organ master classes...super great experiences, but there is no place to feel more vulnerable...standing in front of a million critics!...and live streaming to boot! I never had to do that!
I have no idea who HR1 is, but I would like to apologize for him/her for such a display of (what appears to me) gross insensitivity. I'm guessing HR1 is speaking out of a place of great neediness and pain. I hope you can learn to forgive quickly and let such comments go like water off a duck's back. There are much better ways to spend your emotional energy!
A couple of my favorite quotes are, "What other people think of me is none of my business ~Gary Oldman." "You will be a lot happier in life when you learn to avoid J.O.T. behaviours ~ Arlene R. Taylor" J = jumping to conclusions; O = overreacting; T = taking things personally.
I'm a huge fan of JDD's master classes. I appreciate her coaching style and how much kindness, encouragement and love she gives to the student. I am so grateful that you had the opportunity to learn from her, and that you have shared your experience with the world! BRAVA!
I am newly obsessed with these. Joyce DiDonato knows EXACTLY what she’s doing! So much learning from this.
I am just getting back into singing in a real way and I’m looking at my old classical rep (art songs, opera arias, etc.) and these are going to help me in so many way. Brava Signora DiDonato!
Wow. Just wow. What a beautiful way to teach and critique in a way that the student can really feel the changes that need to be made and be inspired by them rather than be demoralized and attacked. So amazing.
For over 20 years, this is one of my most favorite piece from Mozart opera. Nice twist to the classic Cherubino. Good job.
She has such a naturally lightlight and pure tone in her voice! Loved it. And I admire how easily she takes on the amazing tips from Joyce!!
I'm a high school student learning this piece and this video was so helpful Joyce is amazing! And it must have been really scary for Miya to perform in front of one of the best singers but she still did it! Brava!
Akhila Narayanan what grade?
Twas terrifying but so worth it!! Thank you for the brava, and best of luck to you! So awesome that you're choosing to spend time with Mozart!
@@insanecrazy2487 I'm in 11th grade
I’m 13 and I started learning this beautiful piece!!
Great master class. Third time i'm looking at it but it'll be not the last.
She sings so beautifully, she should be so proud of herself
She sings too fast. She is chasing through the aria.
Miya, WOW!!! Beautifully sung and wonderfully expressed! I'm studying this with my voice teacher right now and I hope that I can one day sing like you!
time for Joyce to direct an opera
Joyce is a magnificent vocal teacher.
I love master classes, they reveal so much about a work, and diDonato is always illuminating.
She is so lovely and so giving a teacher!! A delight to watch and learn from! Brava!!
Dude, watching Joyce makes me want to marry her. 😂 Phenomenal coaching. Sensitivity, musicality, kindness, humor and love. Can't top that. Respect. 💖
I like Didonato,s lessons! They're so professional! What a gift for us!!! Thanks for posting this video!

I am in love with both of their outfits
Joyce has the BEST wardrobe! Thank you! :)

Such a great teacher
Joyce is mystical, I love her.
Thank you for sharing ☺️
Very Impressive! She's a true artist and has imbibed the art in every fibre of hers. Then only she can teach others like this.
SO AMAZING
This is so fantastic to watch!
Thanks so much! :)
bravissima maestra!!!!!
Brava brava brava!

Thank you so much Joyce, you have helped in understanding the song, not only that but in mastering the song faster, I have an exam in one month and I've being having trouble learning it. This has helped me really well, thank you, from my heart
That is great to hear! We wish you luck on your exam.

This video has been soooo helpful! I am 14 year old male I am a colourtura soprano. These tracks help a lot with pratice. But for me the best audition piece is Der Holle rache I started opera at a professional level around 8.
I Love it 😂
my heart exploded with a million pulses of incredible joy
Is this girl a mezzo for sure though? She has a truly lovely voice but she sounds like a typical soprano for me.
Krowa Paulinka Time will show?
Sure, she's still really young. The voice will surely get more mature with time. We'll see what will become of her. I wish her all the best :D
Miya Higashiyama I SOOOOO understand you. We are all in this together!! Brava!!
She's a soprano. Her voice already has a slight wobble at her age, not good. Needs new approach to her singing/development. She's surely a soprano, even a light soprano
Oh so agreed! I'm younger, not even at school yet, always sang soprano, but lately my teacher's been moving me to mezzo rep. You sound lovely!
Well done Mia! BRAVA! keep it gold gurl! luv your energy! hope you are well.
Thank you for your comment and for visiting our channel.
Thank you so much! I appreciate these kind comments when I occasionally revisit these videos. Almost five years later I am still singing and am finishing up my masters degree! :)
@@miyahigashiyama omg hell yeah! Keep it up Mia! ❤️✊🏽
I wish i had her my teacher!
oh my gosh she is adorable!!
Brilliant teaching! This is fantastic to watch!
Joyce opens a little view into Mozart himself. I never really thought of the composer's job. And, yeah, Mozart is Cherubino. He was a lusty little shit! "He's right here with you." What a guy to have right there with you! It kind of gives me a new view of Wolfie!
MIYA I LOVE YOU. YOU ENSPIRE ME. I’m only fresh out of high school and am already singing opera. I’ve been singing it since 7th grade. Any advice?
Hey, thank you so much! Shoot me a message on my website or Instagram and I'd love to connect!!

😂😀❤️
Ms DiDonato is a soprano, right? Or is she a mezzo? I’m confused
Joyce DiDonato is a mezzo-soprano. Thank you for watching.
Woofy and constricted.
OMG, is Joyce available for marriage? ;) ;) I LOVE HER. :D
No es mezzo!
Cherubino's role was written for a soprano, very demanding for mezzos. And, yes the singer is a soprano.
The classification of mezzo did not exist in Mozart’s era. It was only soprano or contralto. As such there are certain roles that are listed as soprano roles but are played most often by mezzos, namely Cherubino and Dorabella. Furthermore some roles have been successfully sang by both Sopranos and mezzos such as Zerlina and Donna Elvira.
Alot of vibrato 😅
I agree, must be a little bit forced…
@@fabriziomariagarzi5534 hahahaha
Doesn't like a mezzo to me. Spinto?
I love Joyce's shirt.
This young woman is talented but needs a new teacher. She is singing wrong repertoire and isn't embracing her true voice and fach and the negative impact is already showing, as she's in college and already has a wobble. Clear sign she's singing too heavy and thick and trying to be a fach she isn't
Miya Higashiyama there are people that criticize to only tear people down and then there are people who criticize because they care and want to see people improve and continue moving forward.
You are very talented, but you must accept both negative and positive criticism as an artist. I did not mean to be disheartening in the slightest, and congratulations on your continued development. People as are you are very passionate about this art form
Miya Higashiyama I'm sure you know the most brutal honest critics are the ones who care the most; to tear you down so you build yourself back up stronger. Don't listen to haters of course.
I'm curious, do you consider yourself a soprano now that you have progressed, and if so what kind of soprano?
Miya Higashiyama interesting! High C/D is still pretty impressive. In my humble opinion it's great you're still considering your fach, but just 2¢ from a random stranger is that we cannot change so much our instrument without some negative impact. Our cords biologically are a specific length, size and thickness. Finding the right fach is pretty important for the best development of the natural voice. Letting the bottom and middle grow might be counterintuitive and weighing down a true soprano voice and even decreasing the size and beauty and range in the long haul, just as it's often that leggiero or lighter tenors, with their often baritone like timbre (but not real size and weight) in the low register, end up harming their development by overblowing the instrument and building up unnecessary weight over time by being characterized in a completely wrong fach. Discovering the natural instrument is key to its best development. Just my opinion, and it's an honor to hear from such a talented singer as yourself
vibrato sbagliatissimo!
chi canta senza il vibrato lirico vero ?!
soltanto i giovani d'oggi ...
ps.
Pronunciation needs improvement and vibrato is too big
Dragan Vidic yeah, wobble this early in her years is surely a very big warning sign. If she continues this path she will be completely unfit for singing by 40 or earlier
why don't you both fuck off
And it's partly out of tune...
Stone I cannot hear the wobble?? Is this just an opera thing because I’m musical theater trained and her vibrato sounds great to me.
Not mezzo ...
Miss Donato, a fine Mezzo, should have been ADVISED NOT to perform ADALGISA.
I don’t know why this Adalgisa issue came up but it is true. DdD singing that role at the Met was bad. Somehow, she managed to be center stage during Casta diva and returned at the end for a silent appearance thanks to McVicar’s direction but vocally she was shot.
Pretty voice but definitely not a mezzo.
Questa ragazzina è senza voce...
Joyce is great teacher. But I do not like her Karen haircut.
Joyce is a great drama teacher, but the girl's sound production never improves...
OHMYGOAWD I am like singing for JDD who is awful and has no idea WTF she is talking about and I have no voice and have no hope to of career, like you know!
Dude! If you have multiple recordings and if you have sung in opera houses across the world you have the right to give Masterclasses . You might not agree with her or enjoy her voice but there is no reason to be nasty about it.
@@annemiekewielinga7203 As a professional cellist of 38 years I have many recording to my credit therefore the "you're jealous" response is not only tired, it is meaningless and the sort of reply one would expect from a 12 y.o.. You are obviously a big fan of JDD. That is your right. I am not. It is also my right to post on a public forum that I find her voice shrill and ugly, also, she sings out of tune and is mostly inaudible without amplification in the concert hall ( I am speaking from first hand experience) and pass judgment on her tacky fashion choices. No amount of marketing, public relations and "aww shucks" farm girl affectation can change those facts.
@@dudeforcaster8630 perhaps reading is not your thing? I never said you were jealous. Just that she has the experience to give Masterclasses. And obviously not everybody enjoys her voice but comments like this are not very adult. Discussing her outfit seems a very personal attack. Fashion has no effect on the sound a singer produces.
