Your review is the best one I have found for this mic. Trying to find the right microphone has been more than frustrating. Really appreciate your help. Went ahead and ordered it at Amazon. New subscriber here too.
I do quite enjoy the sound quality coming out of this mic and it picks up your voice robustly and with presence. I can see it being quite useful in a variety of situations, when cardioid directionality isn't needed. Thanks for the vid!
This is a really good video actually. More than enough information to satisfy any questions I had about the ETM-01 as well as the Rode Video Micro. Thank you
Well done, man! Thank you! I recently upgraded to a pair of GoPro 9 cams with Media Mods for kayak fishing (one in front of me that shoots at me, and the other above and behind shooting forward). I was previously working with a pair of 6 Blacks with the front cam mic'd with a Movo GM100. It worked fairly well and sounded great, as I was relying on the front cam's audio track in post. But syncing audio (and moreover, video), even with Premiere's sync function, is very unreliable (and I'm being generous). I waste a ton of time syncing files. These mics sound great and are idiot-proof and setup-free. I ordered a pair of them, along with deadcats and enough right angle adapters to swing the mics from the back of the Media Mods to the front of the cams. With an entire investment of $60 for the two cams, this is a game-changer, editing-wise. Thanks again for the great review!
The mic can plug into multiple products like the GoPro adaptor your cameras etc.. I may not fully understand your question so if I didn't answer your question please ask it again just rephrase it so I can better understand it. Thanks for watching and please subscribe.
Nice video, thanks for sharing your results and tests. I own both the Editidge ETM-001 and Rode Video Micro and they both have their uses for my setup.
Good video! The mic sounds so good, and it's so small! I wish GoPro would let you plug a mic straight into the side of the camera, but the cage, adapter & this tiny mic are still a small profile. I know what you mean about the deadcat and mic attracting attention -- no one pays attention to someone with just a small GoPro, but you start adding the other stuff, and suddenly, you're in the spotlight. I'm going to check out some of your other videos -- hope you're still using this mic!
Great video, one question.....should we turn off the wind reduction in gopro settings when using external mics with wind cover or should we keep it to auto or on?
How is the adaptor mounted. Interested in using your setup but need details to make secure when Mountain bike riding. Thanks for great video Graeme in Australia.
Great review. I use my Edutage as a lav mic connected to my Zoom H1 (using a 3.5mm stereo audio extension cord Male to Female - I have 3 in various lengths). It's a fabulous little mic (in fact I've just bought a second one to fit in my helmet).
Thank you I really appreciate that and thanks for watching. Please subscribe I have more videos coming all the time. I am going to do a budget mic comparison soon.
Pro: very small inconspicuous size, does not block cold shoe. Cons: no shock mount, omnidirectional (picks up ambient noises), no 90 degrees adapter. BTW, please tell us the distance next time, rather than "close".
I heard the built in mic on the go pro 9 works really well compared to the go pro 7.....will the ETM 001 give the audio more quality on my go pro 9??? Or will it be almost the same??
No the adaptor is an unfortunate necessity. The only other way to get clean audio into the GoPro which is not really getting it into the GoPro is to record your audio separate and then sync it in post.
I’m not sure which light you’re talking about but it’s probably the Litra pro. That is the light I use most of the time when I’m shooting with my GoPro or my smart phone.
Was about to pick this one up from Amazon, but decided to check out a reviews first, and yours is the best review yet. One question: Why is it called a "Dual" microphone? Does the "Dual" refer to the omni-directional feature, or something else? Also, isn't a globe-head or ball-head kind of omni-directional mic better and more efficient, since it is shaped to cover 360 degrees due to it's ball shape? Please reply ASAP so I can make the purchase. Thx. Gave a thumbs-up for sure :)
I am not sure where you saw that it is called a duel microphone it’s called Omni directional microphone. Basically what omnidirectional means it picks up audio from a 360° pick up pattern around the microphone.
@@TodayIFeelLike It's written on the box itself -- "Dual Microphone". I can send you a pic of the box. Plus, I also read it on a few places here on YT and online, where it is called the Dual Microphone! When I made this video the sharpness was probably on high. For a long time I left it at the default which is high I now have it on medium and leave it there.
@@TodayIFeelLike The only thing I hate about the GoPro 9 is that the mic is geared towards those who stay in front of the camera. If you are behind the camera, the audio is horrible. TodayIFeelLike i cut the doubt out of that question by switching mics, my rode mic didnt pop. im guessing the edutige might be sitting too close to the gopro adapter?
TodayIFeelLike i FINALLY figured it out! i had my gopro wifi connection OFF between the gopro and the phone, but i didnt have connect off. gopro settings > connections > scroll down to connect and make sure its off. im not 100% sure, but i heard this connection looks for or auto connects to your phone when youre on the app.
I just drill out the GoPro Case -- to expose the 3 internal microphone -- then use a foam cover -- then I attach a 5,000 milliAmp battery -- that gives me 4 hours of use -- that easy --
The 3 internal microphones are amazing -- just drill out the case -- to expose all 3 -- and purchase a foam cover for $2 each -- smaller and lighter is better -- true

Thanks for helping me select a mic. Great video, very informative! Not a huge difference between the puff or the deadcat. Which do you use more often?
