Roma its not really so much that the ETM-001 is sensitive that is the problem its really a problem that the ETM-001 is a true omnidirectional microphone and is picking up sound in a 360 degree sphere so its not going to isolate sound in any direction. The Rode mic is a unidirectional microphone so it is designed to isolate sounds coming from the sides and rear of the mic and focus on only what is directly in front of the mic. The Saramonic is supposedly an omnidirectional mic too but it clearly doesn't have as wide of a pickup pattern as the ETM-001. Have you tried the Edutige ETM-008 it is a unidirectional mic like the Rode but similar in size to the ETM-001. You do need a right angle adapter to use is with the GoPro. Anyway I like the video thanks for making it and looking forward to the next one.
@@Romafedorov Yeah I like the 001 too I really like the warm bassy sound it has. I just wish they made that mic unidirectional with a built-in angle adjustment like the Saramonic.
Finally a relevant information. I was looking for a mic to record my concerts on a minidisc. Turning volume down should make great recordings, and there are not many omnidirectional options out there except Saramonic. Focused mic would make selective sound source which is not such a good idea while recording an ensemble. You saved me a lot of time man. Thank you
Roma Fedorov thank you for reply, I hope this deadcat will work in the wind. I have SR-XM1 with deadcat but I still get wind noise and the mic is not that loud. Will switch to this smaller mic with deadcat and thank you for review.
@@TravelingwithAndrew If you're doing moto vlogs or if you're going to use this microphone in extreme windy situations. You'll still hear some wind noise in the audio.. This wind muff is not fully wind-proof. To be honest you can't really find anything that'll provide you full protection from wind with these tiny mics. Unless you'll put it in a really big wind muff. Hope that helps :)
I think that even though the Rode has the best sound, the ETM-001 is the best compromise. The Saramonic is just too anemic IMO. Looking forward to getting this setup next month!
What about using the ETM-001 for capturing a car exhaust sound placing the microphone in the rear bumper? Would it sound distorted? I can't find any sound tests with loud noises.
Very good Video Roma ... and absolutely helpful cos I´m looking for a mic to use with the Osmo Pocket ... I think the ETM-001 is the better choice for me to keep the Osmo as handy as I love it. Thank you for your great Job ... like your Videos .... Keep on ... Lovely Greetings from Germany ;-)
what about the Edutige ETM-009 it is a Unidirektional microphone and it works like the rode videomic like a shotgun mic i have both the 001 for nature in the forrest recordings and the 009 for studio and loud environment i had the rode also in mi opinion the the edutige has better sound quality then the rode but i think this is some personal thing
Would using a tube to shroud the Edutige muffle environmental sounds and focus the sensitivity, essentially making a crude shotgun? A cardboard paper towel tube or rolled up paper might be effective. PVC pipe would be more study, and could be glued to a removable gasket.
Thanks for your thoughts on this mic. Any update now in 2022 for the best mini mic? Do you still recommend it? I am looking for something like this and have been looking at Boya, Saramonic, Comica, and now the Edutige. The Edutige seems the best build quality of these mini mics. I do have the Rode Video Micro but that one is unforutunately too big for my purposes. Thoughts?
What mount are you using for the go pro micadapter? I am looking into this set up for my gopro 10. I don't want to buy the media mod since I don't like the media mod microphone
I got the the ETM-001 for my Gopro 9 and I agree that the sound is loud. But the main problem I have is that I use an angled 3.5mm adapter on the Media Mod so the mic will be directed forward and not backwards for when I go around, and it falls down/doesn't stay horizontal when the Edutige 001 is on as it's pretty heavy
You should use a small deadcat to cut down some of the environment noise and wind. Seems like you just used the wind puff. good video though i still think the ETM-001 is a better mic for my vlogs. have a nice life. cheers.
I use the Edutige EWS 003 windscreen and it's really great but still I find the gain to be a little bit too high in this mic.. I still think its the best compact mic money can buy though..
Is there a mic that you can recommend with a gopro set up to record in car sounds? like louder volume, exhaust, intakes sounds etc. I bought this guy cuz it was a simple solution to just plug into the adapter but it constantly breaks with louder sounds.
Does the ETM-001 record audio to both channels? I know it's a mono mic but doest it record the mono signal to both of the channels with the GoPro audio adapter?
@@Romafedorov Strange. When I put the mic in I get only one channel. The second is empty and I get the mono sound from the speakers when playing the audio.
I got this one, going to bring it with me to my trip over seas. Of course I have a Go Pro Session 5 and I need the big bulky adapter, good grief lol. The big gold brick adapter - why do I call it gold because it's 50 friggin bucks!
Goddamn I whish I would have seen this video earlier. Tried the ETM-001 while riding my motorcycle and it's waaaay to loud and distorted. Do you think the Saramonic will also be too loud?
I hear you. Just listen to my mall videos. 😭 Still, I'm not quite ready to invest in the ETM-008 which is twice the price! Plus, an L-shaped mic adapter. Phewee! I'll live... for now. 😅
I have the Rode Video Micro..it is hands down the better sounding mic, it's professional quality..these other two mini mics are not at that level. But if it's size you're worried about, then for sure the Edutige is better....that Saramonic is too cheap in quality, sound and overall performance
That's the point, it's an Omni-directional mic. It picks up everything in all directions. You can't fault something for it's intended design. Your gripes are with an Omni-directional mic not the etm 001. Get yourself a shotgun mic
Hey, I have started using a deadcat with this and it seems to cut the ambient noise slightly.
Which deadcat did you get ? Thanks
Thank you for the detailed comparison. Much appreciated

Nah, it's a hot mic for sure. The manual controls on my DSLR have to be MUCH higher for the VIdeomicro compared to the ETM-001 to get the same -12db

Roma Fedorov I film the streets with osmo pocket and it’s a tiny camera, I don’t want to use anything big. So this as good as it gets with small mic.

Is the EDUTIGE ETM-001 Omnidirectional a stereo Microphone 🤔
is the internal mic on your camera in stereo?

This mic in gopro it's
1)standart mic
2)standart mic +
3) powered mic
4)powered mic +
5)line in?
