Nice tips, but. 24 frames looks like a slide show if you are used to higher frames and vice versa; 60 frames looks unreal if you are used to power points. Its all about what you are used to.
24 is the standard cinematic look. I personally like to film in 120 or 60 and put it out in a 30fps timeline, so i have room for slomo and have a fluent clip but it doesn't look unreal. But thats just my personal opinion
24/25 fps is a sideshow if you use short exposure times and look absolutely horrible. Also 24 and 25 fps give stuttering when watched on 30 and 60 fps in youtube and on a computer in general.
I was wondering about this too. Just got the Hero7 Black and lots of times will be snow skiing in low light conditions. Plus fly fishing in low light conditions.
Great vid. Only thing is, I do go into the water quite a bit so the no case/gimbal wouldn't work for me. Audio really isn't a top priority for me since often I'm just overlaying music onto my footage. So Hero 7 Black with Hypersmooth for me. Been using a Hero 4 Silver for a few years now though, solid camera
One other thing I noticed here is the perception of the terrain you get from having the bars in the shot. When I see those bars rising and dropping relative to the rider, it gives me a much deeper sense of what that ride feels like. That's a huge benefit to the chest mount.

Thanks for taking the time for making this vid. Just a note from a motorcyclist - you can’t mount gopro on your chest because you won’t see anything but the front of the motorycle. So helmet is the only choice. Also, are you not a bit concern about having this metal thing jammed straight into your chest if you fall? But I like the concept of distance to speed you mentioned, I wouldn’t think of that, so thanks. Also, the tiny gimbal is a great idea, cause I could possible mount it on the bike instead my head rising the safety a bit and lowering the wind intensity on my head :)
Why don't you shoot with the White Balance in Native? You get a minimally processed data file directly from the image sensor and you're able to do more precise adjustments in post... Also, I never go above ISO 800, the image quality is unacceptable above that.

I can say i'm gonna upgrade from my silver 4 to a black 4 (not a big step eh!) and get a gimble for it. Also have a zoom mic which i plan to make some form of thing for to keep it in the same source area as the camera for when recording skateboard footage> cheers for making this video and letting it exist! Plus, again as a photographer, the amount of people i've seen buy gopros and never learn anything about white balance etc. is surprising. If you're gonna buy something expensive why wouldn't you want to learn about how all of it works eh? Cheers again man :)
I thought the same thing but more so like, hey Im seeing the footage you have here and honestly it doesn't have that gopro feel to it when people use 60fps or 30fps. It takes away from the "Gopro-y" which is not what I'm going for
This is such a helpful video series! I have been looking for something trail-related dealing with the differences in light and shadow on the trail, and this really helped. But if you're like 95% of all gopro users, you'll just want to put it in a bag with no gimbals or gadgets and just want to record what you're doing, Hypersmooth is the way to go
@@ohHeyKev Yeah I've done a couple rides with both the top of helmet (built into my Bell super air) and a hack-job chin mount and I'm really pleased with the stability of the video. No it's not 100 butter smooth like on a gimbal, but very much what I'm looking for. After that the video editing info was great!
Why do i feel like the editing and color grading software you are gonna say is Davinci Resolve?
:)
Exact comment I was going to make. Can't believe more people don't use it. I thought it was easier to use than Premiere...and the color grading makes a GIGANTIC difference. The downside to Resolve is that you need a pretty decent computer.
¡Mike B! colorgrade with resolve then swap to the resolve
So what app are you using on your phone to connect your Hero 4 and what program on your computer?
mvSWAT on the phone it’s just the go pro app
I'm getting a hero2 on July 5
Kael Williams lol why?
Why not a GoPro HERO8, The 2nd GoPro sucks.
Amazing info!! I am new to the gopro still waiting on mine to come in the mail and doing lots of research to get the best footage possible! Your video was very informative and you jow have a new subscriber and a fan for life!! Now I'm going watch part 2 to find out even more great info on how you get your footage to look so great!! Thanks keep up the great work!!
not used my hero 4 silver for a couple years now and found it hidden away. wanted to get into some more film stuff as i'm a photographer too and didn't know whether to get a fancy newer one or not.
All your footage has a yellow tint.
or green
@@samchristiaansen4311 ya but its way over board
You could try to color grade it into the purple/blue direction and it will go away
Dude I thought the same thing, like a way too much brown, green or yellow tint. No likey.
just because he is editing using full hd cheap monitor
"Cinematic 24fps" - Why the hell would you choose to shoot at a low framerate for fast pace action footage? It just looks blurry and choppy..
My opinion also.
I thought the same thing but more so like, hey Im seeing the footage you have here and honestly it doesn't have that gopro feel to it when people use 60fps or 30fps. It takes away from the "Gopro-y" which is not what I'm going for
The intro 😂😂😂
Gave you the "like" when you said sorry for being Canadian. Gotta support my fellow Canadians!
This is such a helpful video series! I have been looking for something trail-related dealing with the differences in light and shadow on the trail, and this really helped. I would love to see an update to the series since cameras have changed, gimbals have changed, DaVinci Resolve has changed, etc. Thank you!
