- Transformers Movie History featuring Jazz. For most, the word "Autobot" is simply a faction or title. But for one individual, it is a way of life, defining his every thought and action. Always there to lift dampened spirits, he has hope in even the darkest of times. His name is Jazz. This is his origin story. What's up you guys? My name is RBG and welcome to my new video segment, Transformers Movie Universe History. In a previous episode did a video covering the origins of the treacherous, Starscream. We're currently at 100K views on that video and climbing so I have to say thanks to all who took time to watch and even rate. That really motivates me to do more. As mentioned in all my videos that I myself am well aware of the hate the Bay films receive and have to agree that most of it is warranted. But I wanna take you guys on a journey and show you some of the positives this universe has to offer because if we're gonna be honest there are certain characters in the films that don't get their just due. Just a heads up if you haven't seen the movies or read the comic book material used in this video, it will come off a bit spoilerish. So be advised. In today's episode we'll be uncovering the origins of our small but brave Autobot First Lieutenant, Jazz. A character whom similar to Optimus Prime, mandatorily needs to be presented in his own unique way. What I mean by this is that in most instances a Transformers will receive a major facelift in regards to their personality and overall design. But a robot like Jazz simply cannot be tampered with too much or he'll lose a lot of what makes him standout. It's like if the designers decided to make Optimus all Blue and you took away his iconic mouth guard, it simply would not work. Along with Optimus Prime, Jazz is the Autobot who retains most of his original Generation 1 design in the Bay film, among his iconic features, his trademark "visor", which is retractable in the movie, as well as front-chassis chest and wheel wells in his feet. Also, his transformation to vehicle mode, although in the film his alternate mode is not a Porsche 935, a similar looking model was chosen, as Jazz's alternate mode in the film is a silver/gray customized hardtop Pontiac GXP, similar to the weekend racer concept car. This is something I feel the 1st movie got right but sadly that would be the last time we would get a glimpse of our Autobots being portrayed in their trademark glory. After Jazz died, the philosophy of keeping the Transformers characters updated yet familiar died along with him. Now we're forced to deal with unrecognizable robots who essentially wear the names of our favorite characters but don't evoke any of the classical traits or personality.
Fast forward a little later between the events of the 1st and 2nd movie where Jazz met his timeply death. Captain Lennox, Sergeant Epps and the other soldiers helped Ironhide find suitable transportation for Jazz's remains. As Ironhide somberly placed Jazz's body into the trailer, the soldiers lowered their heads in honour of the Autobot who sacrificed his life to save theirs. Weeks later, the Autobots and their soldier friends are on a US Navy aircraft carrier for Jazz's burial at sea. "Ready when you are, Optimus" says Lennox. "Thank you, Captain. We are ready." "This is Epps. We're all set down here, Admiral." A crane hoisted the trailer containing Jazz's body and dropped it into the ocean. The Autobots bid a final farewell to their friend. Gone, but not forgotten...Jazz is laid to rest. And that my friends is where we'll have to end this origin story. I hope you enjoyed this origin story because I did what I could to make it more interesting given how minimal Jazz's role was in the comics. As I mentioned earlier he was 1 of the robots the films got right from his personality, right down to his overall design. If the future film installments wanna get the hardcore fans back on board they desperately need to try to repeat what the 1st film did and make the Transformers recognizable like Jazz was. I have my fingers crossed that we see him in some of the later movies whether it be in prequels, and here's hoping we hear from his voice actor Darius McCrary because he did an excellent job portaying him. Seriously, Jazz is one of my favorite autobots. Sucks he never seems to get enough love these days. From getting offed in the 07 movie, to a single episode cameo in 2015's Robots in Disguise, seems like he's fallen out of favor for the series, and that makes me sad. #RestEasyJazz
Ikr? They only recent media he's had the most air time in is TF Animated. I loved his brief appearance in RID too. They did a good job of showing why he's a legend.
He does appear again in RID 2015 in the newest episode.

The spark eating does explain why there was such a huge gap between Megatron splitting jazz and Optimus arriving
Right. Megatron was like "I just got finish getting this well balanced meal" when Optimus showed up.

Jazz was my favorite as a kid just because of his style and when it was official he was part of the cast i was excited being 7 years old. After i forst saw him me and my dad were hype and happy to see him on the big screen, he didnt get as much screen time but when he did he made a big impression and finally when he met his fate as a 7 year old It shattered me and I hella broke down to see him being destroyed like that. And im 18 now and i still am traumatized to this very day. but i have a little figure of him on my shelf so that he can never truly die. thank you randomblackgamer for the info. Getting to know more from my childhood hero is always nice, maybe he will be featured in future films who knows? but for now lets appriciate his hard fought battles #Resteasyjazz

You did Jazz proud with this backstory! If I had to pick a voice actor, even if they couldn't get his original voice actor back. I always loved Jazz's way of smooth talking his way into and out of everything. I think you'd do him proud.
The worst thing the movies have done is kill jazz. He was my favorite autobot before Evac came along. Since there are autobots in these comics that never appeared in the movies, I hope they eventually come to the movies. Prowl, cliffjumper. They should nail the characters appearance like they did jazz. They got it completely wrong giving hound bulkhead’s body. Resteasyjazz
Yup. People get mad at me when I say Hound is nothing but Bulkhead with a different name slapped on him. It's almost like the based Drift off of TF Animated's Prowl too.

I will love that Autobots as Smokescreen, Cliffjumper and Prowl to come to the live action movies
I'd say that they're still a good bit different, both being more brutal, Hound kind of being the "American" Stereotype while Drift is supposed to be the Japanese one but "failing at that" for lols because Bay.
That said, Hound fits the same role of a bulky brawly character, but he's more war veteran while Bulkhead was more "new guy with good stuff in mind but clunky"

Jazz was and is still my favorite Autobot, I was 6 when the first Transformers movie come out and cried when he died, even that the end of the video I started to cry, now I feel weak T^T #RestEasyJazz
I really find it hard that Jazz died so easily in the movies. He's a First Lieutenant, 2nd in Command, and the Head of Special Operations. He's supposed to be much more skilled and tougher than that! He's basically the mech that leads the darkest division of Autobots, specializing in espionage, reconnaissance, and is even nicknamed the "Saboteur." I don't care if he's not one in the movies, he's still got to be stronger than that, instead he just got ripped apart by Megatron like he's nothing.
Nice origin video regardless, love the voices. Jazz deserves more than a brief cameo in the movie. They got his appearance, voice, and personality right, what about everything else?

Shame on me I honestly forgot how the connection and brother hood between Jazz and Optimus Prime was. Optimus Prime gave Jazz hope under his amazing warrior ability but it was Optimus Prime vision and hope of a Till All Are One System. While Jazz unique view of life attitude, and excellent combat skills. Jazz was the perfect balance for Optimus Prime and There bond was pure created on trust. This would help Optimus confidence (when questioned in secret) when United... It was said after the battles death by the hands of new now awakened Megatron Optimus would begin questioning his doubts without Jazz valuable opinion of “The Trust” #RestEasyJazz

In revenge of the fallen, when the decepticons revived megatron with the all spark shard it revived all the transformers that were in the ocean, so this leads me to believe jazz is alive since he got a toy in dark of the moon and a black Pontiac was seen

Hearing Peter Cullen threw me off... 😅. I was used to Gary Chalk as TF: Cybertron Optimus. This movie is how I discovered G1. After that, movie-verse Optimus Prime made so much more sense

Funny how I grew up in with transformers from the 80s movie, Beast Wars, Machines, Armada, Energon I vaguely if at all remember Jazz...but I did gravitate with him right away in the movie. So he is unutilized potential for sure. I wish I knew of him the way I knew Optimus, Ironhide, Hotshot etc.

RandomBlackGamer Jazz was originally going to make a cameo in the Bumblebee movie but he was cut due to low budget of the movie and according to lazslo ven Jazz is one of Travis Knight’s favorite Autobots

I don’t remember the Autobot symbol being on Optimus’s head when Ratchet helped correlate Optimus being a Prime in the IDW Defiance comics. I remember it being the letter “Q” of the Language of The Primes.
It was slightly changed in Alliance. It was a cyberglific symbol in Defiance but basically means the same thing.

A spark as big as a table tennis ball reactivates Jazz giving him a new purpose allowing him to revive Autobots like prow, cliffjumper, some wrecker and more autobots.

While the wiki said that, I found that when I read the original leaked script, novelization and the comic adaptation do not actually have megatron eat his spark, only he tore it out.
Jazz's first movie toy was the first Transformers toy I got when I started getting back into the franchise. Got it about a month before the first movie came out and I spent that time bonding with that toy like nothing else, which is what made his death scene hit all the harder
Still though, he remains one of my favorites out of all the Transformers characters, and I still hope one day he gets his rightful return to media

Pretty good, me and my aunt really love Jazz. Bay deserves a lot of the hate due to his movies throwing away and demeaning a lot of the characters. The movies are not just about sports cars and jets turning into robots and destroying each other, they are about characters too. And in my opinion Bay hasn’t treated them right. #resteasyJazz
