The free roam aspect of both console/DS versions was such a major selling point in making the first movie games memorable. I was so disappointed in 2009 when Revenge of the Fallen didn’t even bother to build up on that.

I was a type of kid who would spend hours roaming aroung the world in GTA, casusing a random chaos, day by day, not giving a damn thing about plot missions, and I liked to do the same thing in the first Transformers The Game, especially playing Jazz in the first location, because his small size made the town feel a bit bigger

In the DS versions, I like how the protagonist of the Autobot version meets up with the protagonist of the Decepticon version and one kills the other depending on which version is being played. The one you play as wins and the other just dies. It really makes the story basically the same but with branching conclusions.

Honestly, if we could have had the presentation of the console version with the story and customisation options of the DS version, it might have actually been one of the best Transformers games we've ever gotten.
The Decepticon storyline is *fascinating* as they explore how each major player in the faction interprets their "might makes right" philosophy.
Barricade in particular is a *shockingly* fleshed out character in the DS version, being absolutely loyal to Megatron because he is the strongest, the most cunning and the one who commands the most respect as a leader.
But he also takes your character under his wing almost like a mentor when he doesn't have to, teaching you what the Decepticons are all about and warning you not to trust Starscream for your own good. He genuinely CARES about the other faction members, but the Decepticon creed comes first; and *it doesn't tolerate weakness*
A fitting contradiction for a Con that chose a Police Car as his Vehicle Mode.
Whereas Starscream literally only cares about himself and maintaining his position by any means neccesary, thinking that simply being feared and having power is enough to make him an effective leader.
And Megatron is everything he was built up to be. Powerfull, ruthless and smart enough to instantly put together what Starscream's been trying to do in his absence.
But he also doesn't care about you one way or the other, if you survive you're strong and deserve to rule. If you die, you're a weakling.
This is definetly one of the most *heartless* versions of Megatron and its fascinating how this DS game did so much with relatively little.

You can actually change the control scheme from the pause menu after the first mission, so you don't have to play with the tank controls.
Replaying the first mission will still use the default tank controls regardless of your settings, though.
You can also do different kinds of melee attacks by flicking the thumbstick in different directions while attacking, which I don't think the game ever actually tells you.

Excellent video. I hope you do more Transformers game videos in the near future like ROTF console games (both the Wii/PS2 version and the main version on the higher power systems and PC), the High Moon Cybertron games (although I haven’t played WFC yet), and Transformers Devastation.
I had played the Wii version of the 2007 game a few years after it came out, and a few years after that I played the Decepticon DS game. This video made me feel so lucky those were the games I played when I was younger. The DS one definitely left an impression on me with how it made me feel sorry for some of the Decepticons, and humanized them with moments like Brawl saying “You can party with us anytime.”.
I recently bought the PC version and played it with the 2.0 mod. I haven’t completed it yet (I’m at 97% on my current save file) but it was so cool to play as other characters in the hub world. It’s amazing how ambitious that game was with the cut Hoover dam level and making Brawl and Bonecrusher playable. I kinda wish the game was longer. Like I don’t think it’d be hard to imagine how they could have reused levels exclusive to the opposite faction. For example, maybe Bumblebee’s level inside the dam could be reused for Barricade where he has to infiltrate and unfreeze Megatron. Or the Autobots could go to the same military base level as Starscream to look for clues or something before rescuing Bumblebee. And of course I wish they had used the dam exterior level for both factions. We were so robbed of the Optimus Prime vs Megatron boss fight on the dam homaging the first G1 episode.
I found this video very relatable. Thanks so much.

The DS version of the Deceptions is Goated. The fact that they made the story and characters much better than the movies themselves and were able to fit a sandbox areas on the DS is highly impressive
23:55 Also as someone who maxed out the completion rate in the Deceptions. Allspark wars was only able to be played once daily after you do the daily challenge (the same orange ones you see in free roam, however every week it's an assigned one and it rotates daily). I remember scoring high on the survival mode one due that my name was on the top on the leader board for that day 😅
Either way, grinding all that to get the tokens to unlock the rest of the cheats and the highly broken G1 Starscream was worth dealing with awkward positioning to connect to a Wi-Fi Hotspot back in the day.

Never played this one, i actually played the 2004 game, i never knew it existed until i saw it as a kid & was confused but curious, so i played that game instead & it was great (even if it was pretty difficult).
On another note i had a PS2 & wanted to play Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, so i bought the PS2 version thinking it gonna be the open world version as seen in the trailers only to find out that it was completely different & was a side scrolling beat em up type of game 😐 (also Spidey's model looked kind of like the Raimi version), but afterwards i did get the Wii version which was like the hd version (only with worse controls) & the main version on PS3.
Same thing for Ghostbusters: the video game, got the PS2 version (it was also on the wii & no doubt controlled better then SM: WoS) & it had these stylized graphics whereas the main version looked just like the movie, although unlike the main version, this one let you pick a character: one was a male & the other was a female, I picked the female mainly because as kid i thought it would be easier (until i got to that bullshit island level) & admittedly because I thought she looked cute.🥰

Fun fact: The voice actor for the protagonist in both the DS versions also voices Dempsey from COD zombies

I played the absolute hell out of the autobot DS game. It was my first 3D game and my first open world game. I’m still chasing the high of running around tranquility.

the ds lite for the longest time was my only console, got an r4 card with it loaded to the brim with games.
a few of them were the first games, and then rotf, played the hell out of both.
it blew my mind to play an open world game on the ds, along being able to scan vehicles and switch forms.

The only memory’s I have with this game are me destroying the whole city as Autobot and failing the first mission in the Decepticon campaign over and over again lmao. But it was fun and the graphics are really good for 17 years. Maybe I should try it again

I had this game as a kid on ps2 and was one of my favorite games. I agree with the problem of not being able to select witch transformer to be in the overworld, especially for the Autobots because every chapter ends with Optimus, except the 1st with vintage Bee, so he becomes the only character to play as to 100% half the game. And the decepticons didn't really do much in the movie, blackout attacked the base, barricade hunted Sam, then other than Frenzy just showed up for the end battle to either die without doing much or running away, so the game devs didn't have much to go off of for a campaign. Also still disappointing that Ratchet, Brawl, and Bonecrusher weren't playable characters despite having models used in game

It was definitely the DS version that I had and enjoyed very much 😊😊 It is just so nostalgic and I definitely also loved the Revenge of the Fallen one as well. I just wish they had done the same game design and storyline for Dark of the Moon though

I grew up with the PC PORT of Transformers the game and oh boy i spend hundreds of hours in that game and i completed the decepticons campaign first because my pc for some weird reason doesn't support the 3rd chapter of the Autobots it just crashed the game so obviously I'll go with deceptions and you know worse thing my game has no cutscenes because it was the pirated version which because of my low end computer but it ran good on my best friend's computet so the Autobot campaign was completed on his computer damn that really feels like two sides LoL.
Overall man it's good to revisit my childhood game that introduced to me to the transformers franchise
Thankyou for this video because i really enjoyed here i subbed hope it makes you happy take care.

I LOVED the DS version. I only had the Autobots version. The DS for a long while was my only console, and playing Autobots was just... It was great, I spent so long playing it as my escape through hard times.
