Police animals are officers too. The fact they just started shooting with him so close to the car is dealing wild. When it's time to go to work, they get excited, because "work" to them is "play time". When they're doing the job, they're not being vicious, they're having fun. When they're at home, they're at home, and are the family pet.

Unfortunately, the dog was in the crossfire at that point, but no officer is going to refrain from shooting back when a suspect is shooting toward them. In hindsight, not deploying the dog would have been better, but no one knew that was going to happen.

I could barely watch this, let alone click on it. Seeing a person in pain is heartbreaking, but an animal in pain tears me up. Cats, dogs, horses, it doesn't matter what animal. Maybe because they can't tell us the pain they're in. I'm so glad he was saved and doing so well.

Getting a chopper to airlift the Officer (K-9) to get the treatment he needed is amazing and they have my respect, I feel bad for the partner of the Officer (K-9) I don't cry but theses dam onions and seeing the Officer tearing up on the back of the pickup got to me, and respect to all those that did everything they could instead of just seeing the K-9 as just a dog. Glad the service dog is still with us and now can relax and enjoy his life playing around after all he went through. Good boy

It honestly made me tear up. Poor doggy... he was just helping out his beloved humans and next thing he knows he's wracked with pain. But holy crap were the officers awesome about taking care of him after. A medevac for a K9 officer is absolutely awesome (not awesome he needed the medevac, but rather it's awesome that when he unfortunately needed the medevac, there was no hesitation, they just called the helicopter since they're rescuing a fellow officer that's been downed)

I was gonna say almost exactly the same thing. It isn't K9 Huck as far as I'm concerned; it's OFFICER Huck. Or for a full title, Officer Huck, K9. The K9 is a secondary distinction. He's an officer first, a K9 second.
Although, I guess now he's more Retired Officer Huck, K9. Though, for whatever reason, I'm more okay with the "Retired K9, Officer Huck" honorific when he's retired. Because he's transitioned from an active duty officer of the law to, well, the job of simply being the best pet dog possible with a valiant history under his belt (or, in this case, his collar, I suppose). He's gone from protecting and serving the public to protecting and serving his family. And hopefully he gets free vet care for the entire course of his natural life. Like, the absolute best of the best vet care, he ought to still have access to medevacs and emergency vets at zero cost to the now owner as a pension plan of sorts for his work on the force. I hope Officer K9s get that benefit, because they absolutely should
