@@20PINKluvr I was in an ER waiting room when three or four police rushed in with a man wearing the bottom half of a dog trainer suit . . . and a tourniquet on his left arm, still dripping blood actively. Many years ago when I was a working, but starving college student, a crankster stole my car with his buddy. They led the police on a long high speed chase through residential neighborhoods, trashing my poor car in the process. When I was called to have the car towed, I say the thief lying face down on the ground. His pants were torn and he had a dog bite on his butt. The officer said the thief was told to hold still and not attempt to flee. The dog bit the thief when he tried to run away, so the thief gave up and stayed there. Although I had insurance, it wasn't enough to replace my car. I saved money for months, taking the bus to work and school, before I could afford to buy another car. However, it did give me some satisfaction to know that the K-9 unit had bitten the thief in the butt.
I have a K9, and she sits while one of us gets a 5 minute head start, hiding in the thick woods. She never fails no matter how we try different methods to throw off the scent. You'd need a stolen bike or vehicle to actually escape a trained K9.
As a mail carrier I've been bitten by dogs multiple times and narrowly avoided very serious injury on a few occasions. Besides the pain there is the fear factor when you're under attack. Officer Haywire administered some street justice here!

I've worn the bite suit and bite sleeve during training. You KNOW that you won't get hurt, but the sight of the furry officer homing in on target can be overwhelming.....
The amazing part is the more time in service, they refine their skills for maximum effectiveness; they're become more in sync with their partners, the K-9 seems to learn the quicker way of throwing the suspect off balance and maximum effective bite points. They are given the working skills, but they build on those as time goes on. When they nip at the target suspect, they nip 2 or 3 times and the nip that gets a strong reaction, then it hones in on it and clamps down on that area of the body (Hatwire was clamping harder with every resistance from that suspect). They are amazing and smart. Good ole days. Haywire zero'd in but handler didn't right away, was a tad slow catcing on his partner had the suspect (maybe cold fingers not sensing the steady jiggle/tugging from the leash) at the other end of the leash. Great job to both Haywire and handler, stay safe y'all. Mil/leo ret.
@@nbk9372 The dog is trained to first just grab and hold the suspect, but not do damage to the skin. It is like a firm grip with the hand, a bit hurtfull, but nothing serious. But if there is resistance and the guy wants to shake it off, the dog will take a firmer grip and give hard bites, if the dog gets attacked they go full battle mode, bite hard, take second bites and shake the suspect. It can end very bad with deep bite wounds, broken bones, nerve damage, lost fingers etc. So the amount of resistance determines the amount of damage.
Man that was heart thumping to watch, I don’t know if I can send my best friend into such danger, God bless all you guys and canines, thanks for your service!

Having trained K9s, my belief is that this boy will do very well in the future, as he seems very young. Currently, he needs to work on ignoring distractions, such as food. For Working Dogs, using a tug/ball as the reward, rather than food, is a must. More practice and work in the field will help, as he clearly loves the hunt!

Unfortunately no, that pup & officer need a LOT more training together. He eventually got there, but he shouldn't have been distracted by the other dog, ate whatever it was he found on the ground. Well-trained police dogs go to work when it's time & all that other nonsense doesn't matter. Just like service dogs. Can you imagine a service dog for a blind person doing all of this when he's working? He & the officer are probably young & will get better.
@@magpie92766 Seeing as how young the dog looks, my take on this is that he is still in training. I know that taking part in real-life situations has to be part of the training. It didn't seem to be the case in this situation though, so maybe they knew that the guys was most likely unarmed?

Times have changed. I trained K 9’s 20 years ago for 10 years. All commands were in German as to not have a civilian inadvertently gave a seek or release command. Loved my job! Love how the Malinois work but still partial to the German Shepherds. 💜
He's such a regular dog, which is awesome. I have an enormous admiration for working dogs, but I find it adorable that he is still distracted sometimes by toys or other dogs like any other doggie. I have also seen dogs whose life is their work, and who will do literally anything to get the job done, with no other priorities -- take a look sometime at a single border collie helping a single shepherd control *ten thousand* sheep for a perfect example of a work-obsessed dog. But I admit I think it's more fun to watch the ones who act more like very excited doggies who happen to be playing a useful-to-humans game with their nose.
The guy, who trained my dog, later got a job with Maryland state police training their police dogs. Not a bad career move, going from working at a pet store to achieving job security and government benefits by working as a police dog trainer.
My german Shephard heard this video and is currently searching my computer desk for the goodest puppy she heard. It's amazing how much cops trust the dogs, and I trust my dog, it's primal almost. Good puppy, you get a marrow bone my friend.

They are our babies.
All my respect for the police and K9 units. The K9s are a fabulous addition to any law enforcement agency. Very happy to see the vest on Haywire. Congrats to him and his partner!
K9 was definitely hooked onto the right path before the other dog created a distraction, although it's highly likely that the suspect went into that messy shed, then realized it would be a useless hiding spot. Good job and probably a valuable learning experience for the handler.
I hope they give that beautiful doggie a thorough vet examination AND some play time after getting so intense. Just like the officer says, these beautiful K9s need to be encouraged to relax once the job is done!!!! Love them. God protect them!!!!!❤❤❤
Good boy! I have a Dutch and a German. I grew up with Germans. None were highly trained like a police dog, but they were and are worked into daily life. They are highly instinctive which is what we want them for but their instincts don't always tell them to behave or workout a problem the same way we want it worked out. You can't really get mad at them for their innate override switch going off sometimes, but I get when you are on a time crunch in something crucial, you can't exactly let him adjust his over ride on his time. He's a good boy and did a really good job. I'm always thankful for when their want to please Mama is more powerful than their over ride switch. Good boy!
I mean K-9 unit dogs are technically officers😂tbh. You would even get charged for counts of shooting an officer if you shoot the dog which is great because dogs are risking their lives. Also their handlers are officers as well and spent time/came into the job with patrol or other units and switched over to handler I would presume. They are all officers of the law.

As a dog trainer, that K9 handler needs to do some work with that dog with staying on task and obeying verbal commands. But the dog did his job great when the time came! 👍
Yes, and the dog only bark when they found the suspect. Here, unless the guy scream, they do not know what happened. The dog should only bite if the suspect resist or try to fled. Times have changed. :\
Oh wow! I did not know that the k9 need improvement with staying on task if it wasn't for your brilliant dog training experience. I would be totally oblivious if it wasn't for this comment!!
Yeah. The dog is still a little green? Or just haywire. He got a lot of *leave it* commands and I'd be all kinds of happy to hear the handlers break it down for us. Be very interesting to hear why they do what, and all the ins and out of K9 /Officer training. I know one thing for sure, that dog is a handful. The man is getting a workout keeping up and holding on to that beast. They got it done.
Suspect either kicked and Haywire just reacted instantly. His partner probably had cold fingers and wasn't sensing the tugs, strain and jigs on the leash (could see his gloves were getting soaking wet).

My sister is deaf. I appreciate you even considering an especially dangerous situation for a deaf person.

Give it a rest story teller
The police actually investigated a stolen car? When was this, 1969?
That K9 is way too easily distracted and simply happy to be there. He was hilarious pulling out all the blankets!😂😂😂

Damn, that dog is a stone cold killer. No barking, no mucking around, just zoned in and chewed him!
I have a K9, and she sits while one of us gets a 5 minute head start, hiding in the thick woods.
She never fails no matter how we try different methods to throw off the scent. You'd need a stolen bike or vehicle to actually escape a trained K9.
Yes, but the handler needs to keep track. If the hider can outrun the handler, I guess he can win?
As a mail carrier I've been bitten by dogs multiple times and narrowly avoided very serious injury on a few occasions. Besides the pain there is the fear factor when you're under attack. Officer Haywire administered some street justice here!

@@rebeccahicks2392 The K9 officer KNOWS what the criminal smells like. The police would have provided the smell for tracking. Of course, the dog can tell the difference!

That was me too!!!
You can't feel the teeth, but you can feel the force, right?

@@magpie92766 that makes sense, thanks for informing me.
@@magpie92766Great perspective. 👍
@@magpie92766 Seeing as how young the dog looks, my take on this is that he is still in training. I know that taking part in real-life situations has to be part of the training. It didn't seem to be the case in this situation though, so maybe they knew that the guys was most likely unarmed?

Officer Stone and Haywire. What a fantastic team. Now I hope the judge shows some support by not allowing bond.

As a former K9 handler, I saw the signal the dog gave when he knew where the bad guy was. He told them to go through that door into the yard.
I'm a dog trainer so yeah I saw that too.
Ultimately this is the handlers fault for failing this k9. Right ?
Can you tell us lay people over here? 😁 What/when was the signal?
I am not even a dog trainer, and saw that.
If you go back you see the dog was interested in the door, paces along it, and looks back at his handler. I'm a dog trainer, but not for searching, so I only noted his interest, not a signal. When that cop in the end ran through the door, I started laughing. Smart dog! (I think the signal was the dog looking at his handler or the pacing, but that's a guess.)
