Police K9 "Jedi" Hunts Jail Escapee Hiding in Industrial Warehouse

- On May 2, 2018 Seattle Police Officer Anthony Ducre responded to an industrial area in Kent, Washington to assist Kent Police Department with their search for Giovanni Dashawn Herrin, who had just escaped from Kent County Jail and was thought to be hiding in an industrial warehouse.
Less than two months after this incident, Herrin was arrested and charged with the murder of Karyme Barreto-Sabalza, his girlfriend of a few months. Herrin was accused of luring Barreto-Sabalza into a wooded area of a Kent park on June 16, 2018, shooting her once in the head at close range, taking her purse and cell phone, and then using her car to take himself to an ATM, where he helped himself to money from her bank account.
Not long after his murder arrest, Herrin was secured to a hospital bed in the emergency room of Seattle's Harborview Medical Center. It was the third time in a row Herrin had complained of feeling ill due to bad drugs he allegedly ingested behind bars, and two corrections officers were assigned to keep watch over the alleged murderer.
According to an incident report, when one guard went to use the restroom and the other "became distracted for approximately 10 to 15 seconds," the then-19-year-old escaped from his restraints and left the hospital.
The escape ended when two officers from King County Jail located Herrin on Eighth Avenue and Yesler Way and shot Herrin in the shoulder.
Herrin is currently a resident of King County Correctional Facility on charges of homicide, attempt to elude, first degree murder, escape, robbery, theft, and criminal trespass.

@@imtheoperatorttv637 it is. It’s called a “praise voice.” In Handlers course they made us do it to a bunch of fake stuffed dogs in our first week so we can get comfortable with doing it. God Forbid we didn’t praise enough lol, it’s a huge part of being part of a K9 team

I like how the dog’s vest has the handle on top so the officer can carry him like a pocketbook if he has to. Yes, I know it makes it easier for him to pull the dog off someone but he can carry him like a purse 👜 if he has to.
I am so sincerely, crushed to see that Jedi was killed. I was employed by DEA for 31 years, and although I was not the dog handler, we had many men and many different dogs during the course of my employment. After watching these brave animals, I stood in awe of each separate dog. Each one has their own personality just like a child yet they are so focused on their job and ready to give their life for their trainer. I love animals so much especially dogs to lose a trained animal is so difficult they are expensive to train, but they become such a good friend just like a human being, and they deserve our respect while performing their duties, just like the men they work with. I am so sorry to hear that Jedi was killed by a cowardly individual. I pray that this criminal gets what he deserves. God bless you Jedi and may you rest in peace. Thank God for our courageous police force whether men, women, or animals. God bless you all and stay safe.

The bond between k9 officers and their handlers are the most wholesome thing ever. They are literally praised constantly for hard work & it's the coolest thing to see how they all work together & how much other officers appreciate them being there to help. Good puppur!!!

I like how the officer kept him on-leash in case an employee was around, also it was awesome that the officer kept control, and didn't let the dog bite. My favorite part was the look on the dogs face. "Hello!!?? I found him! Where's my toy!?"

I miss my dogs. I use to train K9s primarily for law enforcement. I had a few military contracts, but most of my dogs went to the Louisiana Department of Public Safety / Department of Corrections. I had 8 Black and Tan Bloodhounds, 3 Belgian Malinoises, a short haired German Shepherd, a long haired German Shepherd and 2 Chocolate Labs all at once. I trained the Shepherds and Malinoises for search/bite/takedown and narcotics. I trained the Labs for search/narcotics, and the Bloodhounds for Search and Rescue and for the Chase Team. After almost a year (sometimes 2), of raising, caring for and training them, you learn each personality. I fell in love with each and every one! It broke my heart when they left me and went to work somewhere, but work was a game for them and they loved to work! I miss them so much!!! This Belgian Malinois Jedi did great for only 2 months certified! And he's young too! He has a bright future ahead of him!!!

Wow, that was incredible! Dog was so calm and obedient, most k9s seem a so high energy and hard to control. He didn't even really know what he was looking for in a place with so many smells, all the different people, the machinery and chemicals. And this guy found him in no time! What an amazing dog!

I think because I’m a animal lover I’m biased when I say that the K-9 units are my most favorites. It’s so fun and beautiful to see the partnership and love between the two. Real world police I highly suggest more K-9 content.
I don't know where you are in the world but the UK passed a law called Finn's law where K9s are considered full officers. Suspect hurts a dog, they get sentenced like they were human. It's all one charge. It should be world wide.

I think he was making the k9 confirm the track, it was obvious which is why he told the other officer to move around on the left to cover (at around 10:40 you can see him indicate by pointing at the back of the boat). The dog, as said on the video, was only two months out of being certified so think the handler was being cautious that it was a good track

As an owner of a German Shepherd, I love watching these videos. This breed is so stinking smart and they truly love having a job to do...even regular domestic pets...mine helps us protect our backyard chickens from predators and loves getting praise every time he scares away a nasty fox or possum prowling around the coop🥰

Yeah it was funny. I think thiugh thst the officer knowing Jedi was alerting, and had given a signal to the fellow officers, I think he told Jedi to "search" to see if he'd indicate again. It was bloody hilarious though the look on Jedi's face.
Most criminals are more afraid of the k9's than the guns in the officers hand, so most will surrender as soon as they know the dog is locked onto them.

That’s actually getting to be more common, especially when they’re working off-leash. Great for SAR/FEMA stuff especially. Usually with LEO they’re close enough to catch everything on bodycams better since K9’s are so flexible.

I always get choked up watching police K-9 and their handlers working. They make such great teams and bonding is phenomenal. The handler is great with the praise and 'reward' given the dog afterwards.

This is one of my most favorite videos yet! Working with LE K9’s for 11 years I love seeing them work, but such a young team, it's awesome! His partner/handler is so proud, and he damn well should be! The look on that pooches face on the second "seek" command like "I DID, he's HERE". 🐾🐾❤️🐾🐾

Rest In Peace K9 Jedi. EOW January 5th, 2022. K9 Jedi was stabbed to death after chasing down a suspect and his handler was also injured. They had responded to reports of a man breaking into a house armed with a knife.

As someone who lives in WA and saw this on the news... it was heartbreaking to hear about Jedi's death at such a young age, finally picking up well on their craft together.. I wish the officer, Jedis handler, the best to this day.

@@willapple8145 so they are searching a building for an escapee where they know for sure that he is at. So they established a perimeter (just imagine a big box and inside is where the bad guy is) and to ensure he doesn't get away they have a perimeter watch.
