Sgt. Bill Foulk was an Army Ranger at Fort Lewis, Washington, when he purchased a cheap house in a rough Tacoma neighborhood as an investment in 1989.
Foulk grew concerned that a house on Ash Street, his block, was infested with gang activity. He purchased his own house for $10,000 ($20,875 in 2019 dollars), with the idea that property values would rise.
He began to videotape the people who visited the suspected drug house. He wasn't wrong. The occupants were members of the Crips, the violent street gang that was spreading from California to Washington in search of new markets for drugs.
Foulk told The Associated Press that gang members began to threaten him when they noticed he was filming their movements. When he feared that the gang was about to take action against him, he called friends from the 2nd Ranger Battalion to his house to have a "BBQ" and be present in case the house was attacked.
Just after the Rangers arrived on Sept. 23, 1989, some 15 to 20 gang members began to shoot up the 32-year-old's house while his buddies were inside. Luckily, the Rangers had brought their own personal weapons to the BBQ. The Crips were surprised when their would-be victim's house began to return fire and ran for their lives.

10k back then but with the price rising up he made a good investment and after that u no there was definitely less crack sold in that area anyway its great when people stand up for the community's just sad that we have bad apples that are currently making it harder for people to keep our constitution right to own and bare arm's and the militarization of common police which are some of the biggest gangs nowadays and literally get away with murder all the time and not just black lives either definitely all colors and we citizen's should have control of what our governments are doing I believe in the police having s.w.a.t of course but definitely not every single sworn in cop having a long rifle and military grade firearms, cause that's how they get there high horse attitudes with a badge and higher ups to cover their asses when they are beating there wives and kids or beating up citizen's or profiling people, thank God tattoos are actually accepted in the forces now cause they are able to except citizen's with art on them more not as gang members but as citizen's/civilians abit easier now than years ago but last thing we should do is take our constitutional right to own and bare arm's away cause we should be able to defend ourselves cause dialing 911 when there's a bad apple aka sicko or pervert in your home trying to kill u and God forbid rape ur wife or child or kidnap them a cop won't always be able to get there before the damage is already done and we should have armed police/teachers in our schools cause then them sick scumbags that go and kill our children cause they just tick one day and decide they're going to go kill some innocent lilkids it would be a much better chance for our children because that sick person will think alittle more knowing that they more then likely will get shot back at and will get a fight and they won't just be able to walk into a school and start shooting so it gives our children a much better chance by having people who have to take updated courses on safety to have there licenses to carry along with security officers or cops for safety purposes to help detour some crazy person from going and harming our children my prayers go out to all the parents who lost a child or loved ones in these shootings that could of possibly been prevented 🙏😢

The chief was likely trying to cover his ass, but it's also possible that his subordinates were more resentful towards the ranger than the gang members for forcing them to enter a shithole neighborhood to deal with stuff they were able to previously ignore.
In an extreme case of irony, It's likely both the beat cops and the criminals would agree that the ranger's presence was a disruption to their normal routine.

As soon as the victim has had enough and fights back, they get chastised and told they should have reported it to the school faculty. They didn't doublespeak. What they meant was, if Foulk had called the police, that the police would have responded and likely detained Foulk's men and weapons, so that the gang member wounding incident would have never occurred, but instead that when the gang members attacked un-opposed, that the great detectives of the area would have got some hot press time and been "hot on the trail" of those evil gang members for months, likely requesting more funding from down state at the same time. Phew, that's a lengthy one, but is totally reality. Attack your law abiding american citizens because they're easy targets that won't fight back is the name of the game for Police. And revenue generation as well. When you're the victim of a real crime involving property theft or violence the Police are about as worthless as birdshit on a freshly washed car. My dad met this one person back in the 90s while living in Pretoria, we'll call him John. John was a former Recce (South African Special Forces), and had taken part in multiple operations in Angola. Even though he was according to my dad a fairly humble and rather kind person, he suffered alot from PTSD, always sleeping with a Beretta under his pilow. John lived in a lower middle class area with some gang activity and the area suffered from constant breakins (this will be important later)
The story goes that at some point, one of Johns best friends/ neighboor came to him for help, he had been robbed in the middle of the night, with his family injured severly and hus watch stolen. John went, found out who the gang was that had committed the crime and left in the middle of the night. He returned the next morning with the money and gold watch. Never answered how he found it or what he did.
Then it came out some gang members had been murdered and an investigation was launched before being quickly shelved and then written off. The gangs tried to retaliate (or it could have been some normal criminals) and tried to break into his house only for him to shoot 2 of them.
After that, not a single criminal or gang came within 5 blocks of Johns house and he quickly became known as the boogyman of the area
tl;dr: dont fuck with combat vets

I live in the country. There are redneck versions of thugs here, but the difference is everyone kinda knows who they are. When I was little, my dad was working in the mines in WV, and we lived in KY. It's pretty common for people to drive about 2 hours one way to go to work. These individuals knew this too. Well, my mom heard people talking and basically probing the house to see who's home or if it'd be a good place to rob. This wasn't a neighborhood; we were about a mile away from anyone, so the motive was pretty clear.
Two nights after that, my dad took off work and parked his truck at my uncle's house to make it look like any other workday. Long story short, he killed a 23-year-old opiate fiend halfway through the window, heard footsteps running away, and shot in the direction of the sound. My sister said she still remembers the gun going off. I was just a baby, so all this was told to me secondhand. Apparently, the cops asked my dad why he didn't kill the other guy or something along those lines. Anyways my Dad is the the stereotypical type of redneck you're probably thinking about right now. very calm very kind but will fucking kill you if you fuck in and around his home. Anyways, idk why i sat n typed all of this. Its actually something i forgot about, so much that i don't think my wife even knows about lol. I wish i could tie it up nicely into a lesson but its pretty obvious. Dont fuck with men especially in their home. There's a joke that says something about you dont fuck with a place that has a car engine hanging in a tree, or a transmission in a bathtub because that's where a gun lives. its Jeff Foxworthy, holy fuck thats a name i haven't seen in awhile. I pasted this in the main thread too after typing it here. to justify all the typing mostly but yea less mystery same logic.

This popped up on my feed today and very interesting I was living and still living in Tacoma Washington and I remembered this incident in 1989.
And unfortunately this type of crime is starting to run rampant again in Tacoma mostly with teenagers stealing cars robbing businesses and individuals and having guns. We had an incident recently where an officer tried to stop some kids in a stolen car and one of the kids pulled a gun and hit the officer in the shoulder
We are having the same issues with bad police response because of a lack of officers and policies and procedures by our worthless city council and mayor being soft on crime. The police officers trying to do the best they can but are limited, crimes increasing but yet the city police chief says it isn't it's going down yet we're averaging 75 cars a day being stolen in Tacoma Washington they're saying violent crime is down in Tacoma when in fact the overall crime is is rising and they don't want to admit it.

But then I started thinking, there is really no other way this could have ended without him being hurt, or worse. He would have called the police, the gang would have seen this, and they wouldn't have attacked that night. The same played out in Vietnam, Iraq, etc.

Also most mercenaries already are ex-military, the few that aren't are the ones that get commissioned from rich people or criminal groups since most serious PMCs know they are putting their money on the line if their employees don't meet their specific quality control and they must ABSOLUTELY make a profit, having soldiers that won't fight or protect your merch is a sure way that you'll never hire them again and that PMCs want to avoid at all costs.

He said the REAL hassle, likely more than what it was worth... WAS that he had to wear his Bronze Star or he would be out of uniform by regulation. A few people took notice of his ribbon (and probably taken aback on the Jumpmaster pin as well) all like, "WHOAH hold on there." When confronted, he would usually reply, "I was just doing Airborne things, but it was just a case of I had to use the "facilities" (toilet) and that would have been hard to do with people shooting at us... So I had to go poo and confronted the enemy, so we could have a break." It was obvious he was prior service, but to see an E3 with a Bronze Star was something else. He would joke to the tune of, "I joined the Navy so I dont have to be put in the position to get another one."
This was also around the same time a newly graduated recruit decided to wear a Navy SEAL pin and got in deep doodoo... So maybe the recruit commanders were just being overly cautious. But the Ranger (Now Navy Seaman) was like, "yup... it's mine. and never got pissy" :P

Yeah, that does happen! And most Rangers would be like, "oh yeah, some idiots came to our BBQ and it got out of hand for a bit, but then we settled things."

Yeah because it probably didn't happen like that. 15 rangers and not 1 death? I'm not talking about running away to the hospital and dying. Their whole gang shoulda been dead, scattered across the yards and street like beer cans... Didn't happen so either the rangers were trash at shooting, which I doubt, or it just didn't happen!

Former Ranger Terrence Popp told this story on his RUclips channel. He did not personally participate because he had duty that night but he knew all these guys and even loaned one a 12 gauge shotgun to bring to the gunfight. He said the crackhouse across the street had so many bullet holes in that it was condemned and torn down.

Everybody tough as fucqq when they have left their former weakling life to be trained to become tough. But why not act tough without the training. That separates a man from a scary person. It's crazy how much people talk shit ONLY after they have been trained to hurt, shoot kill others, but I see those " gangbangers" are not trained and got more toughness than the so called rangers etc @@kravmaga1632
