    If you like battle royale games like fortnite, apex legends, etc, AND you like pirates, then Plunderstorm is the game for you!
    Reason for the toxicity:
    1) Blizzard announced it was a new feature, based on community feedback (confusing because no one that I can find on the forums or otherwise actually asked for it), announced it was coming for over a month, but kept the details secret, and that was for "all players." This, we would find out, meant it was just for subscribers (classic, retail, SoD, Hardcore) which it is available and accessible to all players both PVP and PVE... technically.
    2) It's not PVE, there is a singular quest you can get when you land for some small amount of plunder.
    3) It's not PVP, you have none of your skills/talents, or even class. You are given a basic non-class character with a basic attack and a basic self-heal.
    4) The players it DID attract were your typical Battle Royale types who would kill you when you landed or kill you when you were trying to fight an elite, etc, so level 1 characters who landed were ganked by others and this lead many players who just wanted to gather the plunder (the intention of the game, right?) to resent those other players.
    5) Then they tied amazing looking rewards to a "grind-y" slog-fest of landing, gather plunder, die, restart. (For all rewards, 97500 plunder was needed and if you landed but were killed quickly, you ended up with 0-50 plunder / reputation, making quick deaths time consuming because it would take 3-4 minutes to be into the next match.)
    6) Because the game is purely based on chance, you don't know what spells you will get, or items you'll obtain, and many died trying to get different spells from chests or elite mobs, leading many to hate the game play, the other players, and the repetitive nature.
    These reasons were why it didn't work for WoW. It may work for other BR games that people play, but I personally didn't understand why the devs brought this game mode to players who do not generally play this type of game. At least according to the forums... where it was a shit-show, obviously.
    Have a great day, and thanks for reading.
    See you in Azeroth.

      It is not a thing to attract new players. That is pretty obvious, since the game mode is nothing like actual wow. Imagine trying to attract players by making a small, pretty stand alone, game mode that is nothing like the actual game. Doesn't work. Plunderstorm is a fun extra addition for the millions that already have a sub. It's something that doesn't take away from the game, just a fun extra game that cost nothing extra for people with a sub.

    Comment from Reddit:
    Yeah, a WoW patch shrouded in mystery, presumably to give us a little extra content since S4 isn’t actually bringing anything new. I was planning on canceling my sub until S4 weeks ago, but decided to work on an alt and see what this mystery patch was. I’ll take the mounts, the game mode isn’t terrible, but I’ll never touch it again after renown 40. A WoW patch that has next to nothing to do with WoW isn’t what I wanted to spend my money on
    It's wow patch 10.2.6. For maybe the first time ever they didn't tell us what it was so that alone gave it hype and then it had nothing whatsoever to do with wow. Plunderstorm is fine, making it seem like a wow patch when it wasn't is completely understandable that people would be pissed

      By doing this I feel it shows either blizzard has no confidence in the product or they don’t trust the community. If they don’t trust the wow community then who are they making this game for anymore? Like he said no one really new comes to wow, so they need to somehow find that magic again “which probably can’t” or after world saga end wow. If anything classic and season of discovery should tell blizzard what the community. These are just my opinions.

    Here is the issue - the expectation set beforehand and the communication at launch by Blizzard has been terrible. No one was expecting a "new game", they were expecting WoW content. We were sold as new WoW content. You have a large player base waiting for WoW content that just got non-WoW content.
    Fundamentally, that is the problem. That is their failure on Plunderstorm.
    It is not about PVE people complaining. PVE people do not PVP because they do not enjoy PVP. Don't try to sell any aspect of this as PVE or WoW content. Blizzard could have had a huge win by better setting expectations beforehand (could have still been a secret), while offering a greater PVE component that also encouraged people to eventually try PVP (maybe for the top rewards, rather than all the rewards).
    As I have said, if people really enjoy Plunderstorm - great for them. Enjoy the game.
    I was looking for WoW content.
    That does not mean I am looking for Wow to fail.

    The only thing that pissed me off was the devs saying you don't have to pvp in order to max renown. Yeah, _technically_ he was correct, but not the way a lot of people like myself though. Blizz just wanted to see the hilarity of forcing pvp'ers and pve'ers into the same content. Same as they did with some of the requirements for the "Long Strange Trip" achievement where you had to recover flags in Warsong with your orphan out. It was literally the last thing I needed to do for so long.
    Then the lobby is kind of a weird place. I feel like we should be able to go into the lobby and hang out as long as we want so we can properly familiarize ourselves with the abilities and actually look at our renown and _then_ que for a battle when we're ready.
    As with all the content that Blizz has put out over the decades, some will love it, some will hate it, some couldn't care less either way.

    The people who play WOW dont want a battle royal. I have played this game for a really long time both pvping and pveing. A lot of people shit on WoD bc of its content drought. SL and DF literally are WoD with worse pvp (since theres so much pvp unbalance) and literally the same amount of content. At least WoD didnt reuse content weve already grinded this whole xpac and called it "fated." That 9 month drought they stuck us with at the end of WoD lead to Legion, the best xpac weve had in the last 10 years. And THAT is what the people who play WOW want, more story progressing content, balanced pvp and more battle grounds/epic battlegrounds and more dungeons and raids. The community has told blizzard that and they continue to drop the ball. This game would also see a huge influx of new players if they went f2p (i know they wont.) A lot of people shy away from a sub bc why pay for a sub when there are other MMOs that arent as big and have everything they want in a game that has no sub and only microtransactions that they are free to opt in and out of

    Plunderstorm is NOT WoW. It is another game built on the WoW gaming engine using WoW assets (like building a game on Unreal or Unity using the assets from their stores).
    Plunderstorm is something I will never personally enjoy (I have played about 60 games, and have found 0 seconds of enjoyment in the game, but really really want the transmog bad), but man am I glad Blizz released something a lot of people will enjoy. That said, I am really pissed off at Blizz for locking WoW transmog behind investing time in another game........ It should have been something like "play 5 games and unlock the transmog". That gets people to play without this absolutely awful hateful grind (for people like me). As it is, it is just blatant disrespect due to the grind requirement.

  • @brutstorm3309
    @brutstorm3309 3 месяца назад +3

    I agree that I should have made it free for all to play, not just peeps that had a sub. Because this Plunderstorm is not made for the current WoW player. Most are like me PVE players and are not in the slightest interested in PVP even after they say there are PVE elements, it all comes down to PVP. Bud running around plundering until you get killed so that you get at least a bit of progress in your rep is depressing. The only thing that interests me is cosmetics and I have no clue if ever will have the interest or courage to play it long enough to get to 40.
    Out of 60 players in the match maybe 10-15(or even less) are there for a win, and the other 45-50 keep away from 1 a other in the hope of getting a high amount of plunder.

    Don't add stuff that clearly isn't meant to be part of the game.
    They could have easily had made this a queued mode in pvp, like a brawl, using your character model and mog.
    They did not. They put it outside of the game, but requiring a sub. I am fine with PvPers getting something, but this is not a patch as it is not part of the game itself.

I suck at pvp, but getting ganked just does not have the consequences it did years ago. So just take it and move on. It's ok, and I really ended up loving this mode of play..so thanks, Blizz! All these wow streamers who are fanboy'ing plunderstorm conveniently fail to mention that BR game modes get and retain them more viewers, than if they were streaming late-season m+ grinds or raid re-clears.. So it's a case of streamers wanting more income, and trying to push some goofy wow-themed BR to the community to get it.

    What's funny is I insubbed like 2 days before Plunderstorm came out. I've been going through my own personal battle of boredom with WoW, including SoD and Retail. They both are boring. One is a walking simulator and the other one is a lobby simulator, they're a foil to each other, they don't shore up each other's shortcomings. Like if I get sick of running on foot across the continent and wanna go Retail, well now I'm on Retail and I have no reason to travel anymore because I'm in lobby sim and I can just teleport everywhere, the problem is solved in Monkey Paw. If I get tired of not speaking to anyone in Retail unless it's someone arguing with me about something and I wanna go community on SoD, well now I'm on SoD and everything takes 20x longer. I'm not particularly thrilled with either iteration of the game anymore. They could just be a whole lot more.

It doesn't matter how dumb the argument is or how incorrect it is - they are right and you are wrong. People just blindly hating and supporting Blizzard and WoW are why I just do not follow hype or hate trains anymore. More specifically with the people on the "I hate WoW" just spew completely incorrect objectively false information that does not line up with the actual game. There is a lack of new interesting content to keep you playing each patch. QUALITY OF LIFE CHANGES SHOULDN'T BE A PATCH FEATURE.

    I disagree. I don't like PvPing at all. I don't want to PvP, period. There's almost no pirate tmogs in WoW and then there's a dragonriding mount attached to it. That alone forced me into doing it. This week, was the worse week for Dragonflight yet. I had absolutely no fun playing the game after getting through all 40 reknown levels. What made it worse, after every session of Plunderstorm, I would be so frustrated that I didn't want to play retail WoW. I'm a Mythic+ player and do get my AOTC in. There's zero interest in ANY form of PvP at all. Nothing about Plunderstorm scratched any M+ or Raiding itch.
    Plunderstorm would've been something decent, if it wasn't such a long grind to get all the collectable things from it. I hate PvPing. My friend circle hates PvPing. My guild almost entirely hates PvPing. If it was a 5, at most 10, reknown level grind for everything, that's one thing. A 40 level one, they deliberately dragged this out unnecessarily.

    It's truly sad that having fun seems to just not cut it anymore, people need to moralize every decision Blizzard makes in order to even start to figure out if the product is fun or not, holy shit what a fucked up time to develop games, also imagine these people figuring out where their lithium batteries come from, yikes.

    The problem with the crossover is you have to play an insane amount in Plunderstorm compared to how little you had to in the Hearthstone ones to get the goods in WoW proper. It’s a fine game, but it isn’t WoW and not what a majority of the community wanted out of it.

    Dude it is not wow it is a wow skin for Fortnite an PubG minded players. Collect X plunder and killl X NPCs while not getting ganked is not the same as RAID or a dungeon. I find this more likely to be an experiment on a mobile/console spinoff that they have been dying to have in their stable.

    As a CE raider and pvp HATER i really like plunderstorm. Maxed out its renown track by Saturday by actually playing it and even winning a few matches. In fact, going by total plunder collected, I'd almost be at renown 80 by now.
    What makes Plunderstorm stand out is that it is (AFAIK) the first BR game that IS NOT a shooter.
    It also came out at the perfect moment in the season cycle as there's nothing left to do except for reclears.
    The only thing I dislike is the rng factor of spell drops from non-elite monsters. Sometimes you get 3 spells in your first 3 kills while sometimes you don't get any in 20 kills.

    I'm sorry, i've been playing wow since day 1. I've done everything in the game to some degree. And plunderstorm is a piece of shit. I can't figure out all the big name PVE ppl acting like this is a good game mode. It's so awful. I love retail right now. I play the hell out of M+ and think the raids have been amazing in DF. But plunderstorm is a PILE OF SHIT. It's just not a good game at all.

    Plunderstorm is fun for about 5 minutes, then it's just a boring as F reward grind.
    There's no incentive to try and win. Gaining rep is far quicker by just getting to level 5 -7, doing the world quest and then running into the storm to die. Rinse and repeat.

  • @GrumpyOldBastard
    @GrumpyOldBastard 3 месяца назад

    As someone who raids and does mythics the issue with plunderstorm is the rewards are all cosmetic other than being able to buy some flight stones etc so if your not into mount collections or transmog collections for the trial of style or even pets it becomes there is no point to doing it.

      The point of video games is to have fun?

    • @GrumpyOldBastard
      @GrumpyOldBastard 3 месяца назад +2

      Based on your punctuation your reply is in the form of a question, so I will respond. For those who enjoy the collectables mogs, mount, toys etc. getting them is fun, however a great majority of those players do not enjoy PVP in any form, as for the PVP players they by majority are hard core devoted to that activity which for them is fun and it has it's own in-game rewards in the form of gear. However as explained for those of us who progress thru the story lines, run instances and raids other than the ability to purchase things like flight stones there is nothing of interest so time spent vs reward is not there which is not fun. I personally have reached the point where I have cut my play time to minimum as for the past 3 month in the vault after running Mythic Instances and Heroic Raids I have had to settle for coins as a vault reward on 3 toons I consider mains. I've played since vanilla and this seems to becoming the norm in WOW for many players. @@sfarsitulumi
