In my opinion, the Bee Gees are the best band in history. Their writing, the vocal ranges, their harmonies....... the hair! They had it all. And the way they came up with ideas for their songs was so inspire: Jive Talking came about becuase they were passing over a road with ridges on it and the sound the tyres made gave them the intro for the song. It takes a certain talent to hear a song in such everyday things. They're musical geniuses.

Yeah, I never heard the term "boy band" until the 80s with New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, Menudo and 'N Sync. It was reserved for "manufactured" groups that were assembled with singers that would appeal to teenage girls and didn't write any of their own music. In the 60s and 70s there were bands with young males but they were generally family groups like The Bee Gees and The Jackson 5 that lasted into their adulthood and had artistry that developed over the decades.

Barry Gibb, the one with the beard and fabulous hair who sings lead, defined the music industry in the 70's and 80's. He produced and wrote songs for everybody, and the Soundtrack they did for Saturday Night Fever is iconic. They were the disco wave, but they started in the 60s and though Maurice & Robin have passed (as well as younger brother and solo artist Andy Gibb) I believe Barry is still making music.

They lived in Redcliffe QLD Australia for a long time too. They were boarding the ship Fairsky in January 1967 to go to England to make their fame and fortune. I was disembarking the ship with my parents to start our new life in Australia at the same time they were boarding!

In the courtyard between tower 1 & 2 of the World Trade Center, this song was playing when many of the jumpers hit the pavement.
Bittersweet to think that they heard 2 or 3 seconds of this heavenly harmonizing, and it was the last thing they ever heard.

Polo, I love your content! If you want to hear the Bee Gees do something funky, do their live version of “You Should Be Dancing “, which adds one more younger brother to the group. Their younger brother, Andy, joins in on the live version. It is fire! I was finishing my senior year of high school when this song came out and everyone was playing the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. You’re right about all your grandmas… Us grandmas we’re pretty hot back in the day when this music was going on! 😅 the lead singer, Barry, is the only surviving member now. Everyone was jealous of his hair… Even the girls!

Originally known as the brothers Gibb. There was four Brothers Barry, the oldest, and the falsetto of the group. Fraternal twins Robin and Maurice (not identical) and then the youngest brother, Andy. So we had Barry, Maurice and Robin, who were the Bee Gees B/Gs and then Andy Gibb who was a solo artist. They started in Mid sixties and achieved success in the 70s and 80s. Then in the late 70s early 80s younger brother Andy got involved became a solo artist and had a song called "I just want to be your everything" which reached #1 on the pop charts in Canada and on the Pop tarts in the US. He was also nominated for four Grammy awards in 78 Best New artist being one of them.
In the mid 80s he began dating actress Victoria Principal who was very popular at the time. Then in 1988 he died from myocarditis and inflammation of the heart it was real hard on the brothers.
The Bee Gees as a band had gone on to create 23 studio albums starting in 1965 through 2002 of which they had 9 - #1 on the chart hits of their own.

I grew up with this great group & had a lot of their albums. Most people react to their disco era. My favorites are from the 60's-70's. Some of their early hits were "New York Mining Disaster 1941", "Holiday", "World", "And The Sun Will Shine", "Really & Sincerely", "The Singer Sang His Song", "Lonely Days", "Melody Fair", "First Of May", "I Started A Joke", "I've Gotta Get A Message To You", "Massachusetts", "To Love Somebody" etc.

The Bee Gees were the disco Era. When the war on disco was declared and they were burning the disco records the Bee Gees music got caught up in that. They stopped playing for awhile and Berry the lead singer started writing songs for other artists. You'd be surprised at the songs and people he wrote and wrote for. They reimerged as a band again in the late 80's. Berry wrote sound tracts for movies and he wrote Grease and many songs for Olivia Newton John. He also wrote many Country songs.
