"Black people that didn't know Bobby Caldwell was white (reaction)" is one of my favorite sub-genres of RUclips. The sudden realization, slow acceptance, sentimental reflection, and eventual appreciation is always entertaining.
I love them too but I always doubted the legitimacy of some of the reactions since the music video thumbnail has him in it. Unless they were directly linked the song by someone else, which would bypass the thumbnail in most cases.
Its the least favorite of mine. Its literally music, which goes beyond race, or color. Shouldn't even be trying to assume a race when listening to music, we know humans can bend their voice quite well to sound soulful on records.
@@1NightInParisOfficial the confusion with caldwell is not his vocals but the music and composition, its sounds like old motown rnb track...thats why black people associate with it... it is black music literally, bobby had the influence of the greats
Bobby Caldwell passed away March14, 2023 from an antibiotic reaction also known as floxed. The link below is from the Soul Train Awards around 2014. Dave Koz toured with Caldwell and other R&B artists. When this song came out in 1979 I had just graduated from college and I flipped my lid. The song was romantic and sexy and I assumed he was black. Caldwell knew he was "the white guy who sang R&B and jazz". BTW I am white! The link below is the Soul Train Awards in 2014 and cneck out the reaction: m.ruclips.net/video/NrtL-UWotxE/видео.html
I can't help but laugh when you said," I don't want to be that guy," but every reactor that has reacted to this song, has been that guy, you're not alone👍😂
I had that same reaction. You know how you imagine how the person singing looks? I never imagined him being a white guy. Full disclosure, I am white. But I just never knew until a couple years ago Bobby Caldwell was a white dude.
I was thinking just that. No many how many times you hear this song you simply don't tire of it. I have the original album, I reckon its also to do with the lyrics as well as the delivery, that massive message of 'What You Won't Do For Love', most of us can relate to, I certainly can. There's video of him at a BET awards performing this song w/ saxophonist Dave Koz. He's introduced, and as he walks on stage there's a bit of a hush, then he started singing, everyone reacted, and then they started singing along. I'm sure that's the first time a lot of the audience had seen what Bobby Caldwell looks like. The label hid how he looked because they were worried that the record wouldn't sell because he was white. Welp, you can see how well the record did, and it's such a classic. Thank you for the reaction to this timeless classic!

When you get schooled all about the music of the 70s! My era..best music ever! Wouldn’t change it for nothing!! Yes, people could sing..really sing!! Good stuff!! 😊
I totally agree. Man back in the ‘70 there was so many great artists and music. For me there’s no doubt that growing up in the 70’s was the greatest era of music EVER. 60’s-80’s music no other 3 decades come close. Today’s music for the most part is just so boring and bad. It seems that no one can record without auto tune studio recordings and probably live too, with all of this computer generated music. I feel so blessed to have experienced all of that great music in real time; as it was released on the radio and record stores the very first time.
I Knew there was absolutely no way you would have not heard this song before; the question was if you knew the big “surprise” 😂. This will always be one of my favorite songs; it’s perfect, beginning to end. From Bobby Caldwell has a lot of great music in his catalogue ❤

One of my Fav Blue Eyed Soul Singers/Smooth Jazz Prince's BOBBY CALDWELL has now passed to the other side, Damn that hurts! Now he is doing gorgeous tunes for them.
This song’s one of my all time favorites. It’s just sounds so good. Just goes to show Soulful singing knows no color. I just have to come out and say it is really entertaining to watch other people have their own Bobby Caldwell moment. I most certainly had one myself!
