I tried the drill with the head cover about a month ago from another video and wasn't successful. Today I tried with your explanation and hit up on the ball 10 out of 10 times. I think this explanation for driver swing is one of the best.
Since working on shifting my pressure, I have lost the ability to hit up on the ball - I use to be 4 to 5 up and now I am mostly level or down! This explanation is absolutely perfect for me, I can’t wait to try it!! Thank you
Great explanation of shoulder tilt movement required on the downswing, which was always my problem. I tried it in the sim today, with about the same ball speed I gained 13 yards on average, and spin went down 500 rpm on average. I was launching at 11*, now 14.5* (my static driver loft is 10.5*) I am not a long hitter, so gonna try it again tomorrow and aim to increase launch another couple of degrees....at age 67, my best was 240 total distance today......Thanks!!
Amazingly detailed explanation of lead shoulder. You described all of my flaws. The best video I have watched from your instructions to date with the driver. Thank you!!
I will be bringing this explanation to my coach tomorrow and trying the head cover drill at my lesson. This makes probably the most sense I've ever seen in a driver video
you are a very good golf teacher! I love how you explain the "do's and don'ts" ,I think your method of teaching helps to learn WHY certain swing positions are critical to a functional swing.
Great explanation! I love how you showed the common mistakes, and explained in detail the reason why people tend to do them. I'm definitely doing at least one of those mistakes, and it's great to understand why I'm doing them. Also, I've always wondered why people don't hit the ground with their driver when the upper body is clearly more to the right. Now I understand why :) I'll try your drill at the range. Starting from a small swing seems like a good start!
Thank you for posting this. Such a great video! Proper weight transfer and the positioning of the head and lead shoulder at impact is key. Not only will you increase AoA but this will also promote an inside-outside swing helping to hit those beautiful high draws.
Dude Jonathan I cannot thank you enough for this video man. For the past few weeks I was suddenly hitting only ground balls with my driver that went 50 yards and I had no idea why. I realized I was lining the ball up with my left heel but my heel had gotten too close to my center torso and hearing you say it has to be lined up with your left shoulder was HUGE. Also, having a slight tilt but making sure you fire with your hips first then let your chest and arms follow like you said has allowed me to hit the ball straight pretty much every time as long as I follow those steps. Love you man!
This instructional video deserves million views. It's like a silver bullet fixing my mediocre driving skill. Can't thank you enough Jonathan! More power on your channel!
Explaining what to do and what not to do is extremely helpful. It shows us what we are more likely doing and if we video ourselves it is a nice comparison.
Amazing video. Best one yet I've seen that breaks down not only the correct way to swing well but the common mistakes and the resulting bad interactions that result from them.
Best description I've ever seen to hit up. Right now 9 degree drivers are going farther than 10.5 and I have an 88 mph swing. Makes no sense. Along with my high spin rates. Hopefully this helps me.
I was in the exact same boat. You were most likely relying on roll and not carry. If you get that AoA correct you will have less spin and carry the ball further. If you can, get on Trackman and get your numbers.
Finding this tutorial a game changer Jonathan, thanks so much. I had the wrong idea on this concept completely! I was hitting the ball a lot with the bottom of driver, possibly too much weight on the back foot the cause? The shoulder move you demonstrate of up and back seems to have fixed it for me and keeps me behind the ball as well. Great video as always! Thanks John
This video is a fantastic breakdown of the key body movements needed for a repeatable driver swing. The concept of moving the left shoulder up an back while bring the club through with a straight lead arm was very helpful for me. I can actually "chip" my driver about 220~240 yards (total) if I put some oomph into it, which is nearly as long as my full swing ....but much more consistently straight. Looks jerky and strange as hell, and I need to build it into a full swing, but now I have a fundamental movement I can practice whenever my driver swing gets out of whack. I do a few practice chip-swings and watch the blur of the club to check my path. If I'm moving hips, shoulders, etc.. correctly the blur-path is relatively straight through the hitting zone.
Great explanation, Jonathan. Your analysis about the shoulder was especially helpful. I have always struggled with hitting down on the ball with the driver, meaning that my driving is very inconsistent and contact is often horrible. I look forward to trying out tips and ideas. Your analysis is very biomechanically thorough - the best I have seen.
Watching you breakdown my swing faults with the driver is really interesting. My weight shift is pretty nice with my irons, I’ve always had an issue with spinning out with the driver, especially when I started getting more active with my hips, currently trying to keep my back to the target a little longer. I really need to send you a swing video so I can get some feedback. Spin is a killer at times
This is perfect mate! Great explanation and details and the drill is a great recommendation. This explained exactly what Ive been doing wrong. Gotta go practice now but thanks again bud!
The short takeaway swing with back elbow tucked is my my swing exactly when I first started playing golf I could drive the ball well and was very good with my irons shirt game was horrible now it’s reversed short game good the rest of the game horrible I know this video is going to fix my issues thank you your very good at explaining your point in what your trying to teach
Hello Jonathan, Thank you for helping me with several issues. My old game is coming back! I stopped taking my irons back inside and this driver explanation took me to another level. 3 Birdies in my last round. Only issue is my 4iron. 2 worst swings of my round…help!
Great instructions! Would also be cool if we can see a slow motion from the front and from the side during the swing so we can observe your swing. Thank you for this! Good visual help!
The driver is one of the golf clubs that look easy but in reality the swing is critical. Jonathan explains everything with sense. My only concern is that I don’t have the flexibility of a young teenager and the swing should be in away to protect my back. If I do the swing in that way I feel more stress in the back. Jonathan I would like to watch a video addressing my concerns that is one very common for the 60 or older golfers.
Definitely the missing piece with my swing, thank you. Getting much better contact buy finding it more difficult to release.. wrists feels locked out after impact.
very nice and detailed explaination Jonathan, may I ask where should I place my lead palm? should I place it slightly in front of the ball like hitting and iron or i should place it on the same line as the ball. thanks for clarifying
Can you make a video addressing how far you should be standing from the golf ball? And how bent over or upright a player needs to be over the ball? I feel like I am too close to the ball sometimes and this causes chicken winging, but standing too far also makes the swing feel weird. What is most optimal?
How do you realse the clubhead then from that position at inpact johnathan? Cause your left rib cage and left arm are connected you able to explain that aspect post inpact
Hi JKM, I drove 50 balls on a Sim and I was 4d up on attack and 1.0d out to in path but I was missing both left and right all the time, how can I sort the face angles?
I recently got a Precision Impact unit after watching your videos. Is there an obvious reason why I can only get one click on the back swing? Sorry off topic.
You can visit my profile on the “Skillest” app if you would like to view my programs and have your swing analysed 👍 skillest.app.link/profile?u=JzL2g5qc73JhCiGmG
My problem isn’t “hanging back” (weight on trail foot) … my issue is my upper body moves toward the target in the downswing. … Low hooks 😡 I try to move the hips forward and keep head back (as you suggest), but the two are attached 🙄 I NEED to keep my head back, but I can’t seem to do it. Help! 😩
I recently read somewhere that tour pros, on average, hit down 1.2° with driver. Evidently, Ping has some research on this and the best drivers in the world do not actually hit up with the driver.

This is the single best driver instructional video on RUclips. Thanks a lot for posting.

Absolutly. I love the way he explains it.
Brilliant and simple explanation of hitting the driver better thank you Jonathan

Beautifully explained, the best ever I have seen👍
This is one of the best driver instruction I’ve ever seen, thank you
Best instructor on RUclips
You are a credit to our last name! Clear, concise and to the point that also shows things I do wrong! Keep it going!
This is the best explanation. Everything is just how I just wanted it to be explained. Cause and Effect type of coaching.
I absolutely love this guy!!!! I'm ready for Tomorrow now!

That is a brilliant explanation of body position. I will try it 2moro. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Thank you.
Brilliant explanation, love the shoulder up analogy. I’ll give this a try when next at the range. 👌
Your way of teaching is brilliant Jon. It sinks into my brain ❤
Happy to hear that!
I like the way u demo n explain, making things very clear. Keep it up n thanks 👍
Thanks mate, great and very clear video 😎
Thanks again for helping us to improve our swing 🙏

Amazing coach.. love the videos
Very well done driver video 👍 ⛳ ❤

Thank you great video I found it extremely helpful.
This is exactly what I need. Looks like I'll be chipping lots of drivers this week.
Great teaching! Very nice job of explaining how to hit up with the driver. Keep up on the great videos, you have earned a like and follow from me..
Love this instruction, thanx
Great instructions! Would also be cool if we can see a slow motion from the front and from the side during the swing so we can observe your swing.

Absolutely hands down the best video I have seen with regard to hitting up on the driver. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! 😊
Wow, awesome video. Thank you.
Brilliant lesson best on u tube
Jonathan is an amazing teacher .subscribe to this guy if you want to improve your golf game.
Great tips.
This is really good!
Great video! Thank you JKM!
Tried this drill at the range. Trackman measured 250yds carry; for the head cover!
😂
Solid video
Excellent 👌🏻

Thanks. I think I was staying back causing a fade or sometimes a pull. I want more of a draw/straight shot so there’s less spin, more distance
Definitely the missing piece with my swing, thank you. Getting much better contact buy finding it more difficult to release.. wrists feels locked out after impact.
JKM is the MAN!
Thanks!
very nice and detailed explaination Jonathan, may I ask where should I place my lead palm? should I place it slightly in front of the ball like hitting and iron or i should place it on the same line as the ball. thanks for clarifying
Why not watch more carefully? Goes behind.
Nice video but I like to ask if I use more wrist like a you said in hitting iron will it work with driver?
Thank you.

Incredible as always. Jonathan has made me delete all other bookmarks, focusing on having only one video coach.
How about releasing club in driver swing?
having played for 3 years now i have confidence in irons but driver is hit and miss im hoping to try this to reduce my spin
So as i don't pull my arms in should I address the ball from the toe
Do you mind sharing what your avg attack angle is with driver? And what a good range is for an amateur. Thanks!
For me I swing it usually 0-2 degrees up with the driver. Everyone should strive for around that as well.
Hi JKM, I drove 50 balls on a Sim and I was 4d up on attack and 1.0d out to in path but I was missing both left and right all the time, how can I sort the face angles?
I will need to see your swing to know for sure.
Anyone knokw what Driver he's using in this demo? Haven't seen an all white driver since the TM SLRD
I recently got a Precision Impact unit after watching your videos. Is there an obvious reason why I can only get one click on the back swing? Sorry off topic.
Not enough trail wrist extension

With the head stay behind, I tend to hit the ground behind the ball 🤔 😅
Where are you doing lessons
I am based in Singapore right now
@@JKMGolf ok not in Mississauga
@@JKMGolfhi I am also in Singapore. Can I take physical lessons from you?
Ahahahah people had to stop hitting so a staff can pick up my headcover 😅 This is totally my bad
Carnt wait2try😊
Great videos - BUT the music overlay towards the end is off-putting IMO - but thank you for the videos...
Noted!
Larson Mews
Great video albeit a little long and repetitive
Great video but please get rid of that background music.
My problem isn’t “hanging back” (weight on trail foot)
… my issue is my upper body moves toward the target in the downswing. … Low hooks 😡
I try to move the hips forward and keep head back (as you suggest), but the two are attached 🙄
I NEED to keep my head back, but I can’t seem to do it.
Help! 😩
You make great points, but 95% of 15 min video is what NOT to do. Maybe make some shorts of just what to do!
I recently read somewhere that tour pros, on average, hit down 1.2° with driver. Evidently, Ping has some research on this and the best drivers in the world do not actually hit up with the driver.
Don’t do too much redundant demo
Thanks!

thanks alot! glad I could help
Thanks!
