This is the BEST vid on hitting up on the driver.. I started doing this and i went from 215 carry with a fade to 245 carry with a slight draw..My playing buddys are stunned on how much i hit it now ps my swing speed is 95 mph
i know the feeling my 3 wood used to go same distance as driver ,250 ish, and I knew it was because I was hitting down with the driver. I'm finally hitting fairly neutral and I'm driving it 270/280
Best of all the instructions videos that I have seen. 3 simple little moves to get on the right track and …improve no matter the yardage. A. Andrus, Montreal, canada
I have similar issues right now. Never had a problem until about three months ago. Now I'm pounding everything into the ground, and left. Your initial setup and delivery is exactly where I am now. I loved the way he "fixed" you without changing your grip. His fixes make sense, and are easy to visualize. That drop the hands and swing like the ball is behind you is genius.
Dude! Your video came up on a google search! Exactly my issue, took it to the range today and already seeing increase in yardage with lower spin on my driver! THIS IS AWSOME! Thank you!
Excellent video, Instructor and "Student". Another thing I like about this is regardless of what driver he is using, proper setup & proper swing technique far outweigh maximizing distance and accuracy than the actual driver and shaft. So before we spend $599 on a new driver and shaft, we need to swing the club correctly.
I just had a lesson yesterday to learn this same thing and struggled. Seeing his example of trying to hit the ball behind your feet was the key I needed to see. Thanks a ton guys! This is huge for me. Even just ordered my V3
It was fun seeing Mike get so excited about this swing change. I’ve been working on hitting up on the ball for the last year. One thing I learned that could help me in my hook miss was the tip of feeling like you’re delivering the club face toward the ground. Now I just have to work on getting my club head speed up to Mike’s.
As someone who also is steep with my driver and hits a ton of fades/slices; his visual at the end of dropping the arms into the slit was a big help for me
All about that spine tilt! I really like the idea of pretending there is a ball behind you trail foot, great way to keep this hands low! Keep these videos coming, let’s drop these handicaps together boys!
correction by playing a slice. if you play a proper fade where you still hit the ball square and not swipe across it, you can hit it just as far with maybe a few yards of less roll out.
they really didnt touch on it but its all about the launch angle higher launch low spin ball goes higher and carries further. when you hit up well it should be around 14-15 degrees vs 8 and below you get when hitting down this can lead to 20-30 yards more carry.
Another really great video. I learned that all it is is that simple tilt back and moving your pelvis towards the target will help hitting up on the ball, adding a lot of yards. I went to the range today and tried it, and I gained 25 yards carry!!!! Thank you so much and all your videos are the best so keep it up. Frank's putting lesson helped me as well!! I would love that Baltustrol scorecard holder so hopefully I win!
Wow, you just fixed my drives. Took a 2 year break from golf from an injury and used to hit my woods so well. Lately I've just been hitting fades or slices like you were. I didn't realize I started hitting down on it when I took golf back up. Thanks bro! Subbed!
Okay, wow, the thought of the ball being way back there behind your right foot was mind blowing, I love it! That will definitly flatten the plane of the swing...which is key for distance because even if you are hitting up on the ball but you have a steep down swing your not going to hit it very far.....heading to course now to try to imagine that and see if i can flatten my plane sooner as well, thanks a lot for the video!!!!
First time commenting anything...ever...enjoyed your channel and poscasts but this is the first time I tried next time out and got the same result...drew the ball. Lowest round of the year for me (because I hit more fairways). Thanks and keep this up!
So good! I’ve been trying to close my shoulders more at address and I never thought about bumping the pelvis towards target. Feels much easier to get into that setup!
I was impressed with the 3 changes and how much of a difference it made. I am definitely taking lessons to make sure I am hitting the best I can for next season.
Just got off the course and the tips I got from your video changed my nasty slice to a big draw Now just need to straighten to draw a little bit Thanks for the tips
Glad you got to enjoy BGC. Live in Springfield, NJ. Its always a tease when i drive by it. Great video. Love the set up change and the feeling of hitting behind you was a really cool tip.
That was pretty awesome. Solid question about leaving with reminders. I catch myself now getting into old habits when a round is going south. I then get back to the simple setup steps I was taught. Good stuff.
The best tip in this lesson for me was the spine tilt away from the ball. It helped me launch it. Also “casting” the club low behind the ball. Helped me stay on path for sure. Draws never looked so pretty.
Can't go out and try this up here in snowy Canada but took a couple practice swings in my house and I love how it feels. I have always struggled to hit up on my driver and I am excited to try this out. The tip of feeling like the ball is behind you makes soo much sense. Great video!
The fact that you implemented that so quick to your swing is crazy. Looking to use some of these tips on the range! Keep the vids coming, you guys are awesome!
that is by far the best lesson I've seen on here with a very easy explanation of how to ingrain that in your swing thoughts. I need to see matt for a lesson!! great job Mike!
I learned more from this one 15 minute video than I have in the last year reading up on ways to help me hit my driver better. The only thing that sucks is I am in Montana and we have almost 2 feet of snow on the ground :( Thanks for the video guys! Can't wait for next golf season so I can get out and put these tips to good use!
Thanks for the video and the simple instructions that you received. I can't wait to review this video a couple of more times and then get to the range and practices these tips. I hope I win that scorecard case.
I think this is a great video on driving even for the beginner golfers such as myself. I’m glad you brought up the point of using the ground to push off. I hear that gives you more power, but obviously seems strange to actually practice. I’ve watched videos of the Golden Bear and he seems to push off the ground on his drive as well. Visually it defiantly looks more powerful. I’m going to try and use these tips on the range and see how it turns out. As a beginner golfer I’ve also been wondering when exactly I should release the club during my downswing. The tip about trying to hit the ball as if it were behind you is gold. Thanks for the videos. Keep up the great work.
Had this same issue earlier this year myself and once I adjusted my shoulders and hips at address, I added 25 yards easily. This was even better, because I’m going to try and add Matt’s tip of keeping the clubhead low and square on the way down to try and help. Mike, you were MASHING it at the end. You could just tell it sounded different. Well done, boys!
The first two tips are something I try to do, but I need reminding of from time to time. That last tip is something I’d never seen. I’ll be trying that next time on the range.
This was excellent instruction! I struggle the most with my driver. I can hit my 3 wood really well, but I do not feel comfortable with my driver at all. The tip of imagining you're hitting the ball behind you is perfect and something I'm gonna remember when I go to the range this weekend! Love your content guys!
Great video, the setup that he put you in, I’ve started doing it and it definitely helped me it up on it! That’s for posting this video, gain an extra 10 yards!!
I have a similar issue. I really like the club face aiming at the ball behind you. Need to hit the range and video my swing to see if I am coming close to what Mat was saying. Great video guys!! Love your stuff!!!
I struggle with hitting up on the ball also. Great video and visuals. Throwing hands helped demonstrate the path. Now get that swing on the TSi bomb city.
Another great video....I learned that you have to get back to basics/fundamentals first as he immediately saw your set-up needed a little adjustment. Once that was corrected you only needed one additional tip to reach your goal....in summary if we remember the old saying to check your "G.A.P."....grip, alignment and prosture first we are half way to fixing alot if our issues. Awesome additional tip abt pretending to hit the ball as if was behind your right foot.
That was awesome 30 min lesson ... I learned new about the final drill in down swing lowering down the club first with ur arms and coming inside out vs coming outside in which is the main reason if Alice and negative attack angle.. wow👍 goin to the range for practice thanks 😊
Very nice Frank!!! Sorry that I'm just getting to this video. Man you're crushing it now. Like someone else started earlier... that swinging arms drill and ball on the back foot is cash money! Lol
So just to reiterate, the 3 moves were the pelvis towards target, the spine tilt away, and the imagining the ball somewhat back behind you. Those numbers were great!
man the game has changed so much with technology but in a good way. so average people are able to improve the best we can to help enjoy the game more. time to get funky now lol
Great video! Wish it wasn’t mid-November in Vermont with Covid screwing up everything indoors! Can’t wait for Covid to jump off the cliff with the cold weather! Looking forward to trying out theses tips! Thanks fellas!
I am going to try this for sure this weekend. I know I have a negative attack angle. I can tell by how my ball does not release and a lot of times backs up. So I end up with all carry.
All three fixes fit what I need exactly. Negative attack angle hurts only driver.. tend to til lead down on lead shoulder and that makes me lean down for driver but it helps with all my other clubs
All of these movements are really to give a much more shallow club shaft which is what makes everything fall into place. Negative attack angle will mean a very upright/steep club shaft. When people do little 1/4 waggles the farthest back part of the waggle the head of the club is really close to the ground, but then when they swing for real that same point on the downswing (about 2 feet behind your back foot) for someone with a steep shaft angle the head of the club is much higher up from the ground. Usually about twice as high than their waggle which is no good especially with the driver when you're supposed to be hitting up on the ball. If you drew that arc on paper you'd want the arc to be much flatter vs coming down steep. Honestly even with the irons. The difference is the ball position is centered so as long as you bumped your hips forward to move your low point in front of the ball in the swing arc (the low point in the swing arc follows the center of your hips) you'd still be contacting the ball in the downward part of the swing arc which is what hitting down really means (it's not about coming steep on the ball, that's always a killer). You'll find better contact by having a more shallow club shaft all around honestly.
Interesting point. I converted to the stack and tilt system which encourages a severe descending blow to ensure compression. But it hurts me on the driver because my carry is 260ish with a negative attack angle..
I hit up too much on the ball! But your podcast on the backswing was brilliant and as a result ive had a lesson and its really helped. That scorecard holder looks amazing btw! Would love to win it ⛳️
Video made me go out and find that HZRDUS Hand Crafted shaft again. Bought a used one a couple years ago for a 2017 M1. Was a very good shaft for me and was a bomber. Tip snapped off during a round and I had to toss it. When I went to replace it, cost on the shaft had climbed and $300 was not in the cards. Got an email recently that they were available at a decent price so I grabbed a new uncut one for a Cobra Speedzone driver. It was delivered today so it will be off to the club builder tomorrow.
The biggest thing that helped a buddy get this idea, is that we were hitting balls out of a garage stall (local place for hitting in cold weather) and we had the stall with the wall behind us. He was hitting his drives and never hit the wall. I was in the next stall with no wall behind me and crushing my drives. I went into hit stall to show him I can't even hit my driver here because I hit the wall. He was being too steep all around. He then got the feeling of hitting the wall with his clubhead in his driver swing (actually smacking it) then went into my stall and BOOM! It was night and day and a guy who was struggling to hit it 200 with the driver (! and was all over the place) was crushing 270 nice high shots much more accurately. It was like a literal light bulb moment for him. Of course this was at the end of an hour long session where he was just pounding ball after ball trying to find something.
When he did the swinging arms drill, that was an amazing visual. Like “ohhhh yea that makes sense, why don’t I do it that way.”
Club face down toward the ground behind you is genius.
This is the BEST vid on hitting up on the driver.. I started doing this and i went from 215 carry with a fade to 245 carry with a slight draw..My playing buddys are stunned on how much i hit it now
ps my swing speed is 95 mph
30 yard gains! That's awesome! Well done 👏
I watched this video and made similar changes - went from hitting 220 to 260 and shot my best round ever yesterday. Thank you!
i know the feeling my 3 wood used to go same distance as driver ,250 ish, and I knew it was because I was hitting down with the driver. I'm finally hitting fairly neutral and I'm driving it 270/280
This video spoke my language. I was a 16 Index before I tried the hip bump. Then I shot 3 rounds in the 70’s. Simple and amazing. Thanks.
loved that video of how to hit up on the ball, the pro was a really good instructor.
Best of all the instructions videos that I have seen. 3 simple little moves to get on the right track and …improve no matter the yardage.

Love the fact that a simple change in setup already leads to improvement.
My exact struggles. I started with tilt already. Need to try out the hitting the ball way behind you move. This is a great video. Thank you
The tilt of the hips was the lightbulb for me!!! Thanks guys for showing the lesson!!
This guy's a good teacher. I have the same issue and tried this on the range. It worked! Need to keep practicing but I see what I'm doing wrong.
Matt does great work!
All about that spine tilt! I really like the idea of pretending there is a ball behind you trail foot, great way to keep this hands low! Keep these videos coming, let’s drop these handicaps together boys!
It's crazy how much distance a golfer loses playing a big fade and how efficient your swing can be with the right instruction! Well done Mike!
correction by playing a slice. if you play a proper fade where you still hit the ball square and not swipe across it, you can hit it just as far with maybe a few yards of less roll out.

I also struggled with an over the top swing. Those same pointers helped me to now draw the ball. Great content.
Excellent demo . Slightest adjustment made all the difference from fad to lazy draw. Great
I am so excited for this guy look how happy he is, one day I hope to learn this ugh I work so hard but no bueno
When you said " it was just those three moves". That rocked me when that HUGE change was in three moves. GO LOW bro !!!
Wow, you just fixed my drives. Took a 2 year break from golf from an injury and used to hit my woods so well. Lately I've just been hitting fades or slices like you were. I didn't realize I started hitting down on it when I took golf back up. Thanks bro!

Thanks for watching!
I remember when I started hitting up. What a blessing. Everything just gets easier lmao
that tip seems legit, hitting the golf ball behind you. i wish i had instructors like this near me.
I feel some hope after watching this video. Great teacher and student.
Wow just that little tip of the feel of hitting the ball way back like that to get the face closing is awesome
Wish I had seen this a year ago I tried the hitting the ball behind you drill and it made a huge difference Thanks
That was superb, I'm looking forward to the next course vlog featuring the new swing. ⛳🏌️♂️👍👍
I was impressed with the 3 changes and how much of a difference it made. I am definitely taking lessons to make sure I am hitting the best I can for next season.
These tips are so helpful. Unreal. I loved the reaction, "Jeez!" Frank, "Is that a draw?" :)
Just got off the course and the tips I got from your video changed my nasty slice to a big draw

Thank you!
OMG! That is exactly my problem. Love the slight shift in pelvis! I cannot wait to try this!!!
I used to do the same thing! I just started hitting up on the ball last year! And also that Baltusrol golf club scorecard holder is awesome!
This lesson is fantastic. You should go back to this coach, he’s the best
The best tip in this lesson for me was the spine tilt away from the ball. It helped me launch it. Also “casting” the club low behind the ball. Helped me stay on path for sure. Draws never looked so pretty.
The tilt makes a huge difference. I learned that a few months ago and it definitely helped.

I’m gonna try that hitting the ball behind the feet trick. I feel like my plane is similar to your original plane. Love the videos guys!!
I learned more from this one 15 minute video than I have in the last year reading up on ways to help me hit my driver better. The only thing that sucks is I am in Montana and we have almost 2 feet of snow on the ground :(

The putting video and this one are great guys. Keep it up.

I had the same problem with a nasty fade and took your tips to the range and achieved great results
Great lesson the trying to hit a ball behind your right foot. What a great visual.
Thanks guys for all the content and taking time to help give us further instruction I appreciate your channel for my enjoyment but learning as well.
Wow, that’s exactly what I am currently doing, seems the driving range for the weekend is in to see if I can try those tips
Great video, the setup that he put you in, I’ve started doing it and it definitely helped me it up on it! That’s for posting this video, gain an extra 10 yards!!
This is my biggest issue. I have a negative attack angle. Video is fantastic!!!!
I have a similar issue. I really like the club face aiming at the ball behind you. Need to hit the range and video my swing to see if I am coming close to what Mat was saying. Great video guys!! Love your stuff!!!
Thanks as always KC!
This is top of the line instruction. 👏 absolute top notch 👌
Thank you!
I feel like the change in club path is severely under rated in this video! -10% to 0 or +1% is awesome.
Some of the yardage gains are definitely from the straighter path. A slice is a yardage killer!
I struggle with hitting up on the ball also. Great video and visuals. Throwing hands helped demonstrate the path. Now get that swing on the TSi bomb city.
Best video I’ve watched regarding this topic
Thanks Stuart! Glad you enjoyed it!
Your body type amd swing is indentical to me. I can’t wait to try these 3 things tomorrow!
It is so weird because I had the SAME problem at the range today. Love the content!
I love it Mike. Your swing looks so PURE! Keep it up!! 😁😁😁
I was actually at balturstol for the drive chip and putt a few years ago!
Great information, I’m on the way to the range to incorporate these tips into my swing. Thank you
Swing the club back on the down swing to reduce my big fade this works going to keep this up but in slow motion because I have an over the top. Thanks
Lol
The best tip for me was the arm swinging checkpoint to assess the low point of the swing. I had the same problem earlier this year.
So just to reiterate, the 3 moves were the pelvis towards target, the spine tilt away, and the imagining the ball somewhat back behind you. Those numbers were great!
Thats it! It's a tri-fecta that has worked wonders for me - Mike
That was a eye opener. Great video, thanks.
man the game has changed so much with technology but in a good way. so average people are able to improve the best we can to help enjoy the game more. time to get funky now lol
This worked a treat for me! Cheers!
Been working on this recently, just have to keep at it. Thanks guys!
Excellent! Can't wait to go try this.

Interesting point. I converted to the stack and tilt system which encourages a severe descending blow to ensure compression. But it hurts me on the driver because my carry is 260ish with a negative attack angle..
This was an amazing lesson!
I hit up too much on the ball! But your podcast on the backswing was brilliant and as a result ive had a lesson and its really helped. That scorecard holder looks amazing btw! Would love to win it ⛳️
Thanks Adam. Amazing how much of a different a good takeaway makes, right!
It's surprising how small of an adjustment can make such a big difference. Imagining the ball further back was interesting I'll have to try that.
love the video i remember a year ago i started hitting up on the ball i added bout 35 yards!!
I struggle with the same thing hitting down in my drivers mike! Thanks for putting this together!!
I will definitely use these tips during my round tomorrow.
I learned that scorecard holder is on point!
Very helpful. I struggle with a negative attack angle also.
I used the tip on the course and my driving game improved. Can you do more videos with the golf pro?
The biggest thing that helped a buddy get this idea, is that we were hitting balls out of a garage stall (local place for hitting in cold weather) and we had the stall with the wall behind us. This video REALLY helped me. Thanks!
Really good stuff. I really like the set up and the arms swing.
So glad for you man!!! Keep it up
Thanks!!
working on hitting up currently. Will definitely be using these tips. Great video!
Thanks! 👊🏼
