Tremendous Danny.Game changer for me today. Danny you hit it straight through the covers and after it bounced off the screen it landed straight in the middle of the covers! That's what you call results! Great content Danny!
Danny, the use of the head covers is an excellent way of practicing to encourage the correct swing path for a draw. This reminds me of a tip I received about the feeling that should be swinging to 1 o’clock.
This video goes against everything I have been told to do, and makes so much sense to why I Slice/fade my driver because I am adjusting the wrong way. People always says: Lean Back (weight on back foot), put the ball more forward, and a big one my play partners always tell me, don't straighten your arms..... This video just confirms my suspicions and tells me my self corrections in the feel of my swing have not been wrong. Love this.

Explaining how slices are created and that we often do more of what creates a slice in order to prevent a slice was such a light bulb moment for me. You are by far one of the best coaches I have ever found on the Internet. So glad I found your channel! Cheers from the States! 🍻
Same here. I notice if I hit a slice I continue to hit slices worse and worse trying to correct it, whether that be by "aiming left" or changing my grip.
Thanks Danny. I didn't think it would help too much visualizing the clubs you had laid down but it really did. Was more consistent on all clubs, not just driver. Hit my first 260 yard drive and it was on the fairway too. Congrats on your #1, you deserve it.
Great video Danny. Slicing driver has been my number one problem, and I'm sure some of the things covered here include what I'm doing wrong, and how to try and put them right. I've been told I have the ball set up too far forward in the stance, and also that I am cupping the wrist. I think I am also striking the ball from the wrong position. I really like the simple tips provided here, especially the tram lines idea. I've not seen that before, so will definitely be giving that a go. I am currently recovering from an operation to remove cancer from inside my head, so it'll be a while before I'm playing again, but I am saving this video as it will be the first thing I try when I'm back on the range. Thanks for some great advice.
Hi Steve, I look forward to hearing how you have beaten your cancer and are back in the golf course ripping those drives straight down the middle. Keep me updated on your recovery, all the best, Danny 🤜🏻🤛🏼
You make it look so easy Danny. You hit that last drive dead between the two covers. One day I will see the golf ball as big as a soccer ball. Thanks as always.
These tips fixed my swing. I just hit my driver 368 yards! And straight, after driving the ball 325 the previous hole. Never in my life have I hit this far. The only change, from his advice, was I moved the ball back closer to center away from my left foot. But followed everything else
I’ve been looking for this for so long! I’ve never been able to hit a draw, have had to play a fairway finder 220-250 fade but unreliable and finally gotten back to my avg 307 carry
In terms of actual cause and effect the curving of the ball is causes by the TILTING of the backswing axis which creates a lift/drag differential. The tilting of the spin axis is caused by an off-center strike on the ball RELATIVE TO PATH. Becaus the club head swings in an arc it is actually very difficult get face dead square straight at target at impact which causes the impact on the ball to occur dead center + on the ball relative to the target line which results in dead straight ball flight which is why pros never try hit perfectly straight shots. That advice came to me back in the mid-80s via Jack Nicklaus in his book Golf My Way which inspired me to learn how to shape shots. The explanation of the cause and effect above also comes from Jack’s book and made perfect sense to me because I had built and flown model planes as a kid and carved my own boomerangs and understood lift, drag and how it cause curved flight paths. What causes beginners to slice most often is the sudden change in club force pulling them off balance on their toes which tilts the entire swing planef forward toward the ball and takes the club head outside the ball. Then reflexive hand eye coordination kicks in subconsciously and tries to square face back to target with the hands. But because of the tilt forward the path is now outside in which causes the squared to target face to swipe across the back ball from outside-in tilting the spin axis as it releases off the face creating the slice. If the golfer’s brain doesn’t react in time to steer the face with “hand eye coordination’ then the club face will hit the back of the ball outside of center relative to target + < but face will still be square to the loss-of-balance swing path and face will strike ball SQUARE TO PATH and fly straight left, a “pull”. I struggled with a perplexing slice with Driver for many years until I realized it crept into my swing late in the round when my legs got tired and was being caused by me losing balance but not being CONSCIOUSLY aware of it and my SUBCONSCIOUS brain trying to accomplish the goal of getting face of club square to ball. The first thing I did to cure the slice was CONSCIOUSLY focus on not changing my hands to try to “save” the shot which resulted in the slices becoming straight left pulls until I fixed the balance problem by focusing on what was causing it to occur-lack of concentration on postured when setting up at address. Learning to CONSCIOUSLY not try to steer the face to the dead center of the ball was the most difficult habit to break when learning to shape shot because hitting a draw requires the face to strike the ball inside of center > + relative to target line and hitting a fade requires it striking outside + < to tilt the spin axis.

Great content - i use the headcover aiming drill and it is so good. Even my “misses” are much better than before, my dispersion range is so much tighter. Keep up the great work.
Morning Danny Thanks for those tips on how to hit driver straight! I am going to practise those this morning and then play 9 holes so we will see how that all goes. Thanks again for the set-up and swing guides! Will watch the video again to ingrain the moves!
@@borkhthree-jackdaws5918 the first thing I would check is what you currently do as a push is part of the hook family and a pull is part of the slice family. To date I very rarely see a golfer have a swing that changes so much that they belong to both. 99.9% of golfers sit in one of the families
I started practicing my driver w a broken tee behind my golf ball about 5-6 inches straight back. This seemed to help w good takeaway hit the tee on takeaway and also w direction toward the ball on swing. Hit the broken tee on the swing which helps you remember to catch golf ball on swing up. Tee your ball high. I think that is similar aide to your golf club channel. Great drills!
This is the biggest problem in my golf game. Will give these drills a try. I don't slice the ball but can get a straight push to the right or pull hooks. Usually it's lower body related but probably starts with mentally trying really hard to not straight push or pull hook. We'll see if just trying to go straight/straight with club face and swing path does better for me than working on in to out path.
During a session on the range today I found that raising the hands was a great help in being able to keep the face square in the backswing and then downswing. Did that with an easy swing and the misses were far less common or dramatic. Probably looked robotic but who cares!?! Thanks, Dan.
Hi Danny, great video, when I swing driver I use the swing thought to let the clubhead to travel through to 1pm position and my hands travel through to 11am
Hi Larry, if you push fade the ball there’s a couple of things you can do. Many tour players push fade and simply aim left and push fade it onto the target. This is a great option 👌 Another is to play around with closing the club face either at address, with a change of grip or simply a feeling during the golf swing
My inconsistency in drivers these days is me shifting my weight forward like an iron swing and coupled with an overcompensated tilt - duff and if my shoulders are firing too quick aka rushing I get shanks. Having said that - would love if you cover whether we should move ball position to maintain weight shift across all clubs or we should try to master driver and any other clubs' setup
Danny bit confused been closing face at address after seeing one of your videos telling me to do this to cure slice with varying degree of success still occasional slice but hitting a lot more fairways
I just finished a round where I used 2 of your principles this week, start weight on the front food and lift your hands with driver setup. I had mt best driving round in years. Everything was straight and 20 plus yards longer.
As a left-hander, I have to flip everything in my mind from side to side, but it is pretty clear what causes the slice. For me when I take my practice swings, I can watch the head flash by next to the ball, and sometimes I see it go by straight, and sometimes I see it go by at a bit of an angle. So for me, that's likely why I sometimes slice and sometimes it goes pretty straight.
DM killing it still…. Bravo sir I could go through all your posts and say the same thing, pretty sure I have already but you know what I mean. Impressive. 👏
Once again top learning video ,question Danny you seem to hit driver very up right is there now no need to lean to the right slightly to hit up on the ball ?
great content as normal Danny, i know the vast majority of amateurs are slicers, but i wish you would do more for us poor souls who have serious problems with hooking the driver.
Going to try this out on the range tomorrow! A couple weeks back I was hitting my Driver perfectly and then out of no where I couldn't even get the ball off the tee... lol.
Does anyone know if he’s ever done a video on open vs closed stance for driver? I can’t seem to find any consistent info on this online. When I look at Danny’s toes, if I were to draw a line connecting them, it looks like it would go out to the right, instead of straight. Does he have his foot back? Or is it an optical illusion?
Good morning Danny. I usually find that I set up good at the beginning of a round....but then the bad habits creep in as the round continues (usually on the back 9). Thinking of this simple drill should help. Iv just bought a new (to me) Cleveland XL Launcher so can't wait to get out with it sometime this weekend
Take some practice swings with feet together before you hit. As the round progresses we often get tired, lose our full shoulder turn, and try to swing hard which leads to a lot of unwanted sway. Stay centered. Good luck.
Another great video thanks. Please can you do one on hooking. Why does every video focus on the slice but plenty of us hook. Whilst we can work with the video, it would be great to have a hook focus for a change please.
Absolutely, simply reverse it. 1. Make sure ball position isn’t too far back. Place it off the lead heel 2. Handle inside of lead thigh although if you hook you can actually experiment moving it to align towards your belly button 3. Weight even
This is really helping my driving. The other day I hit around 60 percent of the fairways with my driver (which is a nice improvement for me.) My question is: how do you hit it 112 when your swing looks so effortless? I feel like I'm giving it everything I've got and I can't get over 100.
Hi Jason, happy to go into detail on how I achieve this. I’m about to launch a new video series soon on dannymaude.com on this subject as it has been a really popular question
The one thing that allowed me to fix my slice is super simple; I just rotate my right hand counter clockwise a little bit. This literally fixed my slice in one day. Watching these tutorials are nice but it really comes down to you, controlling your body out there on the driving range.
Danny, thanks for an excellent video! I have one follow up question. While I set up with the club handle leaning forward and pointing to my lead hip, sometimes at impact I have lost the forward lean and the handle is pointed to my chest or right shoulder, resulting in a weak and possibly topped shot. Are there any drills to correct this? Thanks
Danny would you recommend lighter shaft 50g with stiff flex or slight heavier 60g with regular flex for a more stable driver swing if swinging about 90 mph? Cheers, great instruction as always!
I followed everything that Danny says on this video during my range session today, and the first 5 drives just drew. It was like magic! I then tried it with my 3-wood, and I was hitting high draws. It was crazy! 🏌️♂️🙌🏽

@dowse21 thank you. Enjoy. Let me know how you get in 🙏🏻
This setup is brilliant, I had kept making a stronger grip and making it worse.
Thank you 🙏
Danny, thank you. I come back here every 2 months once I start making my own rules
Good tips as always like u said setup very important difficult to recover from poor basics
Thank you Jaco!
Finally managed to get back to my 500 yard carry, thanks to u mate, cheers
@afiqflaz that’s great. Well done 👏
DM killing it still…. Bravo sir
I could go through all your posts and say the same thing, pretty sure I have already but you know what I mean.
Impressive. 👏
@georgejung5429 thank you so much for your support. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
Once again top learning video ,question Danny you seem to hit driver very up right is there now no need to lean to the right slightly to hit up on the ball ?
great content as normal Danny, i know the vast majority of amateurs are slicers, but i wish you would do more for us poor souls who have serious problems with hooking the driver.
Thank you David appreciate the feedback and support!
Thank you! Off to the range this week! My new Calloway ai Smoke Max needs to be tried out.
Enjoy 😁
the weight shift at impact hasn’t been explained to me but that is absolutely what i’m doing from a translated baseball swing
Thanks Adam, weight shift is something I’m sure being a baseball player you will have naturally inbuilt in your swing
Going to try this out on the range tomorrow! A couple weeks back I was hitting my Driver perfectly and then out of no where I couldn't even get the ball off the tee... lol.
Let me know how you get on!
That's a very good and explained really good definitely have to try it I slice so much turns me off using driver thanks
@garymurphy6901 thank you. Enjoy practicing. Let me know how you get on 👍🏻
Does anyone know if he’s ever done a video on open vs closed stance for driver?
Thanks again for the great advice! 💪🏼
@bouweenvermogen you are more than welcome 👍🏻
Hi Danny, excellent tuition as usual 👍. It concentrated on a slice - do us that have a hook follow the same process??
Absolutely, simply reverse it.
1. Make sure ball position isn’t too far back. Place it off the lead heel
2. Handle inside of lead thigh although if you hook you can actually experiment moving it to align towards your belly button
3. Weight even
Thanks @@DanielMaude, will try at the range later along with the grip trainer you recommended 👍
Great video comme toujours, merci Danny ❤
@danieledutilleul2249 thank you. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Best coach ever
Thanks so much for the support
The ozzies have their gold hunters but we have a gold giver, thanks Danny, keep them coming mate.
Ahhh that’s really kind Paul
You are the best Danny!
@adam4090 than you. Much appreciated 👍🏻
Just broke 200yds with my driver! Thank you sir. Not bad having a sore rhomboid(:
Nice work!
Excellent video. Unfortunately I injured my shoulder and I’m off golf for 4-6 weeks.. wishing I could go to the range and try this out.
Wishing you a speedy recovery
Terry Cork front
Thanks Danny, I try and visualise a mark on the ground in front of the ball to hit over. Still doesn't stop me hooking it often.
Put a target gate in front and notice where the ball sets off relative to the gate
Just had a tumour removed, so sadly out of action at the moment.
another great video, thanks!
Thanks Sergio!
The one thing that allowed me to fix my slice is super simple; I just rotate my right hand counter clockwise a little bit. This literally fixed my slice in one day. Watching these tutorials are nice but it really comes down to you, controlling your body out there on the driving range.
@@RileyBanksWho controlling your golf ball will always come down to you 👌
Danny, thanks for an excellent video!
@@caesariosutiyoso3985 💯👌
@@DanielMaude So lighter shaft with S flex would be better?
I followed everything that Danny says on this video during my range session today, and the first 5 drives just drew. It was like magic! I then tried it with my 3-wood, and I was hitting high draws. It was crazy! 🏌️♂️🙌🏽
Brilliant Kyle, well done!
1st vid ive seen and amazing!! super useful thanks
@whacq thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
