  • In this video I talk about how my 5x10 Delco Dump Trailer that is half ton towable is a major workhorse on our small modern homestead. We use the most versatile trailer you can buy for a variety of tasks and chores. It's the best way to haul manure for gardens and compost. I would also say it is the best way to haul and collect firewood for our woodstove. We use it to haul construction materials from dirt and gravel to concrete bags and lumber.

Best piece of equipment I ever bought, even for a person who lives in suburban NY. For a long time, I had only a utility trailer with wooden sides. Every time my wife would do a project around the house, she would dump all her garbage in the trailer believing the "Trailer Fairy" came and made it all magically disappear. After several years of going to use the trailer only to find I had to clean it out first, I decided to get a used dump trailer. That trailer has made my life so much easier. Keep pumping out the videos!!

When I was doing a bunch of work out at my mom's 5 acre property. The Kubota tractor was definitely the #1 tool. Always handy to have it no matter what you are doing around the property. 1st it's got everything its purpose built to do: mowing, digging, tilling, pulling. 2nd it's an all terrain vehicle that can reach almost any point on the property. So I would do things like toss the chainsaw, a weed eater, some loppers, or whatever in the bucket. Then I could take that anywhere I wanted to go.
It's also an excellent lifting machine, when I needed to re roof a 12x30 outbuilding, it could lift the roofing bundles and tools up to the level of the roof, saved me from having to carry all that stuff up a ladder. I ended up not even using a ladder the whole job. Around my house in the city, the drill and impact driver are for sure the number one tools.
While you can absolutely transport Mini excavators and small tractors it can be really sketchy. Someone dropped an excavator off the back of a dumo trailer when I worked in rentals. Also I've watched some people doing it and it can be pretty scary. One time the truck started rolling forward because the center of balance shifts when the equipment is on the ramps and the tongue picked up theback of the truck causing the tires to loose traction!

Somehow I missed this comment. Ya man! You can’t beat good tractor with a front end loader! I hope someday I can afford one haha.

Different areas and different property types are going to definitely call for different equipment types. A side by side would be about useless for me except for when I start using my 2.5 acres that are about 2 miles from my house. But of course a pick-up could do that job probably just as good if not better.

I would like to buy a 8N tractor and dump trailer to haul it around. What size trailer you think a 8N would fit?

Definitely a 6x12. I have a 5x10 but it’s too small for the 8N which was a lack of foresight on my end.
