How to paint your dirtbike wheels properly at home for $30

- Hey guys just a quick how to on painting dirtbike wheels black!
Steps are:
Clean
Green scotch brite
Wax and grease remover
Tape and use straws
2 coats of Dulux Etch primer
3 coats of Dulux Duramax Gloss
FYI if you're going to do this, especially with black paint, it's much faster to just wipe off the overspray that's on the tire with acetone. I did this on a CBR1000 that I flipped and not having to tape up 4 sidewalls saved a solid half hour, the acetone wipe took 5 mins tops. Solid video, didn't know that about etch primer and aluminum BTW.

Avoid doing this, you will just end up getting acetone on the rims by accident and destroying the paint.

Ahh here it is!!! Yep, the black looks so much better for sure!!
If you are about to attempt this, use an automotive 2K or 2 Pack Spray can ! It will be scratch resistant and it will not chip off ! But do wear protective gear over your face and mouth ! And prep here is key ! Just paint and primer is not enough ! Nice video though !

I did mine and it’s been over 1 yr. they still look great I Haven’t done touch ups. Has little scratches NOT major though. I ride trials and hills (rocky hills). I recommend. Use rust-oleum semi gloss paint + primer
Would I need to remove the spokes?

I want to paint my swingarm that has been scratched up badly by the original owner who seems to have ridden it sideways on the ground quite a bit. Do you have any suggestions for the proper paints to use? I will need to smooth out the scratched surface with some fine emery paper then would like to find a color match for the original silver.

A can of 2K clear coat, which is a 2 part spray can, will make that paint last 10 times longer. I painted a helmet with it, dropped it like we all do, only dented the paint. Its a super hard clear coat they use when painting car wheels. Stronger than powder coating.

Nice job. Iv started to use a sealing primer after the etching… (not trying to be one of those guys lol) I was having trouble with the paint deforming on certain aluminums either cracking or just looking horrible while applying my color coat. And I prepped the hell out of them, used all the same product line and all.. I got into old school bmx freestyle bikes and that’s when I started to have the issues. Never on one of my dirtbikes aluminum with proper prep
How did it hold up against dirt?

smh why would you put 50 wheel weights on a enduro bike with knobbies on it .
? Balance. Hard to balance a knobby but makes all the difference at speed.

Have you tested plast dip spray or rubber spray paint or epoxy?
About to paint mine and have heard the traditional paint will fall off after a while.
Vegard all those rubber sprays chip off. If I were to do it again I’d use either Eastwood 2 pack chassis black or power coat
How hard is it the remove the paint a few years down the road? Would acetone or paint remover work. Would like to do this but thinking in a few years I would want to go back to the OEM Chrome?
paint stripper or lacquer thinner will eat up rubber, but will take off any paint within minutes
I'm confused, cuz I believe breaking down the rear tire would be easier then messing around with tape

Did you dismantle the entire bike, or mask it off??

I know you got this question a million times but, your saying 2 cans of black with 1 can of primer?
Motocross Moe yeah 1 can for priming the wheels and one or 2 cans for the top coat. I’ve done then again in 2 pack chassis paint in a can and it’s 100000x better

Sexy Savage dummy don’t change tubes on a dirt bike dumb ass you obviously don’t know what your doing but green slime fix a flat it’s cheaper and way easier plus if your out riding and have it in your tube you can’t have a flat and if it’s not in your tube and you get a flat while riding as long as you have your green slime and a bike pump your fine

Ye.. its not worth paiting the rims if ur going to drive of road, only if its a sm and you'll be driving on the road

Is this 16" rim?
A better method is to use aluminium tape and lightly sandblast. Nothing ever sticks to the oxide coating. But well done.

the proper way is to take the tires off at least then disassemble them and powder coat them

Why didn't you just take apart your rims and do it properly? Then you wouldn't have the the ring of silver the masking tape masked
You have TOO MANY wheel weights, spin the tire on the rim and try to balance it again
Omg two hrs to paint, doesn't remove the brake disk, no prep the garage for over spray, no gloves 😂 I I bet that was a huge mess.
