Would the Xenair Alpine Insulated Jacket be overkill for casual use in the UK in temperatures around 25f - 40f or would the Alpine Light be sufficient here, many thanks in advance
I wouldn't say that the face fabric is thin, but it's not very thick and heavy. I would think that having a softshell on top would provide a bit more durability. That being said, it is made for high output activities. It's a very breathable piece, and should be a good choice for climbing.
Rab make excellent clothing, you should get yourself a Rab Batura jacket for when winter arrives.
Great overview. Would you mind sharing your height and weight and the size jacket you are wearing?
6'2" 215lbs. Size XL

I would prefer the heavier xenair alpine.
Does this perform well for rock climbing / scrambling? I.e. is it very durable when rubbing against rock?
