    Thanks for the review! Do you have any suggestion on how to size this same jacket for women? Based on measurements on the Mackage website I would go for a 42, but seeing as you are a foot taller and 50+ lbs heavier than me (typically a women’s XL) and yours is a 44, maybe I should go to a 40? Do they make this jacket in a women’s cut?

    • @meandmyjackets
      @meandmyjackets 2 часа назад

      It's hard to say. I did not have an option, as the 44 was the only size that the store had when I tried it. It fit me well, so I can't say what the difference is between other sizes. Maybe go with the size according to the website. Just a suggestion. I can't give you any more specific help, sorry. This is the only jacket that I have from Mackage, so I cant compare or say that one runs smaller or larger than another.

    The founders are NOT Norwegian climbers! They are two former British Royal Marines. The Royal Marines spend lots of time training in Norway, hence the connection. The military background is also reflected in the design, fit and style of the clothes.

    Hi Chris! I know this is an older video, but I was wondering whether to get this or an Arcteryx beta? I am currently able to get a discount on both, bringing the Patagonia Torrentshell 3L down to £100 and the Arcteryx beta down to £200. I would be using it for general use and hiking. Thanks!

    • @meandmyjackets
      @meandmyjackets День назад

      Personally, I like the Beta. The Torrentshell is a bit more durable jacket, but a stiffer, and heavier jacket. The Beta has a nice GoreTex membrane too. I just like the feel of the Beta better. The Patagonia is a good jacket, it just depends on what you like. Heavier, stiffer, more durable, or lighter weight. The Beta will be durable enough for many activities, and both will be waterproof, windproof, and breathable. I just think that the Beta may be a bit more breathable due to the weight of the fabric.

    How does the patagonia das light compare to the new mountain equipment oreus jacket? Are they both similar in function? I.e. they are not suitable for active insulation and being worn while hiking/climbing but for when you stop an activity?

    • @meandmyjackets
      @meandmyjackets 7 дней назад

      They both are similar in some respects, but different in others. The das light is in general not as warm as the Oreus. The ME is an award winning synthetically insulated jacket for it's warmth to weight ratio. The das is warm for it's weight too, but the ME is really nice. These jackets are both made for mountain activities, ME is known for that, and many of their pieces are typically on another level. But these jackets are both designed for warmth. An outer layer to provide protection from cold wind and light rain. They are not going to be very breathable, at least not as much as other insulation layers can be. They are for colder conditions to provide warmth with light weight. They can be worn alone, but may be a bit better as an outer layer for extra warmth in those colder conditions. The Das Parka is closer in warmth to the Oreus than the DAS Light. Good belay style jackets too. Personally, I like the Das Light better than the DAS Parka, but The Oreus and other ME jackets are awesome. So they can be worn as active insulation pieces, but they're better for colder weather as they are not as breathable. They will hold in the warmth when needed.

I have the same colour on Maui Pure Lenses and Maui Brilliant. The Brilliant lens is way darker and greener looking than the Maui Pure which looks like yours, more like a lit up bronze. What size are you wearing there? It looks way too tight.

      This is my normal size of XL that I buy in everything. Yes it does fit much trimmer than the other Mythic Jackets. I don't know why that is, but..... it is definitely cut trimmer.

      @@meandmyjackets I was asking because I will have to size up to an XL, as Rab sizing always runs small.

      @@user-ic5cc8um4s It's always hard to say exactly how each piece will fit someone else, but this jacket seems to run small, and sizing up to accommodate layers would be a good idea.

      @@user-ic5cc8um4s I have not had an issue with the Rab pieces that I have tested over the last couple years. I always order XL in all of my jackets from different companies. It's my normal size, and it helps me to determine whether a piece is cut smaller or larger. This way, I can inform my viewers better about the fit. This Mythic Ultra jacket really did fit me tighter in the mid section than other Rab jackets that I have reviewed. Even all of the other Mythic jackets fit me great in a size XL. I own and love the Mythic G, size XL is perfect. I can even wear a layer under it without a problem. Just the M Ultra runs smaller (trimmer) in the body. The arms and overall length were good.

    Looks like a good jacket

      It's nice, but it's cut large. It's a typical Patagonia jacket,.... Nice, but personally I don't find it to be anything special. Just my opinion, not a bad jacket, but I would like the fit to be better. Hopefully my video demonstrates how big it runs.

    aside from hiking/trekking. would this be usable for snowboarding too?

      @meandmyjackets 8 дней назад

      Perhaps with a base layer under it for warmth. But it's not going to be very waterproof. They are designed more for climbing, so they will stretch a bit to give you more mobility. They are durable, A better choice may be the Gamma MX as it has a fleece backing, and are warmer than the AR's. Personally, I would wear a pair of shell pants, with a layer under it depending on how cold it is. I really like my Cortazu all-weather shell pants. They are great, waterproof, windproof, strong and very well priced. I have a video about them here on my channel too.🙂

    Is it also useful for active insulation similar to the rab xenair jacket?

    • @meandmyjackets
      @meandmyjackets 8 дней назад

      It is somewhat breathable, but not like the Xenair. This jacket is designed to block the cold wind, withstand some snow or light rain, (keep you protected from the weather), and provide warmth. It's one of the best warmth to weight synthetic insulated jackets on the market. The Xenair will allow airflow through it, even though it has a heavier insulation, you won't feel as warm. Unless your doing some sort of high energy activity. Even then, you will need a shell on top to provide weather protection, where the Oreus does not need an outer layer in most circumstances.
