By far the best UK outer layer. Our mild, moist climate is not cold enough to warrant insulated jackets when moving, and hard shells just become greenhouses when moving. The VR stuff is a revelation. I have an alpine light I use all year round and it’s incredible. My other half has one and as she runs cold she runs in hers. I also have the VR summit jacket which I pretty much wear at all times for all activities this time of year except walking up the steepest of hills. Incredible stuff. If Rab increased their VR range I would buy every model I am that much of a fan of it.

I bought the VR Summit jacket at a good price (guess it was last year’s model) a few months ago and it has become my favourite everday jacket for the winter here in Scandinavia. Relaxed fit, so I can layer up if needed. Spent a few days in Germany recently with lots of rain (instead of snow…) and I was surprised that it kept me competely dry during heavy rain up to about an hour (didn’t wear it longer than that). It’s also extremely lightweight and can easily be stowed in a backpack as an additional layer/rain jacket if needed.

Another superb review/inside-look. Thank you. I bought the VR Summit a few weeks ago and it is amazing. The jacket is so light and thin, that I worry that my running vest will wear the jacket. I thought about getting the alpine, but I like to buy bright coloured jackets so that I am visible on the roads and the colour choice for the alpine and ridgeline are disappointing in that regard. I just want a jacket that I can run/fast pack trails and adjoining roads with and not get run over or overheat. I am currently using the Rab Borealis in the Firecracker colourway.

Got the summit for £85 in the sales, great buy, it’s a bit more suitable for the mountains than my rab xenair light which isn’t a breathable and lacks adjustable cuffs and napoleon pockets

They're the Rab Sawtooth Pants. I've had them a fair few years now and really like them, just a good, lightweight all-rounder that's suitable for just about everything. Perfect for cold, breezy days filming.

Why is there no women’s alpine light? I’m really shocked at rab (my fave brand)!

I’m also confused about this, as there isn’t one on the Rab website, but if you Google it then various shops stock it - so it must have existed at some point. Let me do some digging in the morning and see if I can find out.
