Thanks for not showing the most obvious parts of the install and ignoring the others, like putting together the actual tire carrier!

Why doesn't anybody show how they press those bolts into the tire carrier? Instructions say don't use the lug nuts - I did and ended up stripping out one of the bolts and had to cut it off. Not sure how else you'd get those pressed in.

Did you use any lock tight on any of the bolts or will they be ok without any?

Thanks for the video! I just ordered one for my Jeep. Is the tire supposed to be tight against the bump stops?

I got it installed on my Jeep and I'll answer my own question. Maybe someone else could benefit. You end up actually taking the right side bump stop off because the HD tire carrier installs on top of where it goes. If you follow the part of the Smittybilt included instructions (step 9) where you lay the spare tire down, face down, and dry fit the wheel mount assembly bracket to the wheel, and using a straight-edge laying across the tire, adjust the wheel mount in or out until the wheel mount back side is flush with the outside edge of the tire (or straight edge). This will put the tire right up tight against the bump stop on the left side and tight against the HD tire carrier on the right hand side when you mount the tire and tighten the lug nuts. This video shows that it was adjusted too far out, which puts space between the tire and bump stop. The tire is much more secure when it's tight against the tailgate. One other thing, there are four 1/4" steel spacers as well as four matching rubber gaskets that are not mentioned in the instructions. I call Smittybilt support and asked them and they said the 1/4" steel ones are no longer used but the rubber ones go between the tire carrier mount and the tailgate on the left side and between the tire carrier mount and HD tire carrier on the right side. When I installed the tire carrier mount, before tightening the 8 bolts up, there was an air gap about 1/4" between the tailgate and mount on the left side. The right side sits on top of the HD tire carrier, which is close to 1/4" thick so it made sense to me to put the 1/4" shims on the left side, between the tire carrier mount and tailgate, with the rubber gasket against the tailgate. All tightened up, this tire mount looks great! I am very happy with it.

@@mdz0739 Thanks for the detailed information. I just ordered one, and watching different videos, no one explains the rubber gaskets and plates.👍

@@mdz0739 Today I am trying to install this carrier and I have the same issue. About a half inch gap on the left side but the kicker is my kit didn't come with any spacers! Not to sure what to do now... I will be calling support tomorrow. Glad it worked out for yo

@@bieber_lives7682 Man, I hope they can send you some. The 1/4” spacers work good and when the bolts are tightened, will pull the additional gap closed. I think it’s too far to pull in without the spacers. If they won’t send you any, you could maybe make some from 1/4” steel plate. Home Depot and Lowes carry small pieces of it. Would just require cutting to size and drilling holes for the bolts to pass through. Good luck!

Why not show process of placing tire mount using straightedge, you missed the most important steps for installation

When making a video for RUclips, it is always best to have obnoxious guitar and drums playing over your voice.
