    This drill is probably done best with a partner but remember you can still work it effectively in shadow boxing or bag work.

      3:20 This lesson was most profound to me when the gang went swimming one time: There was this huge log in our swimming hole and i tried to push it away and completely failed and just benchpressed myself away from the log and it didnt move an inch, then my buddies little daughter maybe 5 years old just puts one hand on it and with slow, gentle steady pressure she pushed the log away and made me look stupid😅
      An object lesson on the laws of physics like inertia, ill never forget

      🙂 Hi Gabriel, i am just wondering ... the slipping of the head doesnt expose you to high kick ? It reminds me of many knockout by high kick like the last fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier or the last fight of Kamaru Usman vs evans ... isnt it better in kickboxin to slip backward to avoid the high kick counter ?

    This is a great drill only thing I really do not like if the pad holder is not aiming at your head but throws his punches intentionally to miss/sloppy.
    Look at 2:36 in 0,25x speed you see him aiming more on the shoulder than on the head.
    Not trying to hate but one should practice it as realistic as it could be and in sparring your partners do not miss on purpose/ aim for your shoulders.
    You see it in so many drills. I sometimes stop evading just to see where the punches land and when it doesn't land on my head I tell to them throw real punches.

    • @TreyYork1

      TL;DR
      It can be effective in the right context. Training head movement can help you understand how to counter it.
      It's really important that the head movement is not predictable. Head movement can work if your opponent doesn't expect it. It can put you into bad positions that can be exploited. The rule-sets exaggerate and diminish the effectiveness of head movement in interesting ways:
      It is less effective in kickboxing than it is in boxing, and more risky. In Sanshou, MMA, etc. It becomes more useful again, because of takedowns. As you mentioned, in other forms of kickboxing leaning back is often a better choice than in something like Sanshou because their rules don't encourage takedowns.
      If a smart fighter saw someone doing what this drill suggests, and spots the pattern, they absolutely can catch you moving into their strike. Better yet, they can use feints to illicit the bigger response they want and knock your head off.
      It can work well to set up counters, especially when closing distance with your hands. If you're not smart enough you're the one getting set up for the counter. It helps to use small movements, like just shifting head slots. MMA and Sanshou guys can use it to setup takedowns, again if they are comfortable enough to avoid being predictable.
      If someone just loves training head movement and they're otherwise good kickboxers, it can be an ace up their sleeve. And some talented folks can just do it, big slips, duck and all-- it's unreal. Jeff Chan shares tons of videos of him doing it well on RUclips; Prime Anderson Silva made it look easy; Samart-- Just watch him, I don't have the words.
      Most of us are not like them, and most kickboxers might find better uses of their training time. It can help a person be more elusive through being more aware of their position in space. Training head movement can also help you understand, and capitalize on other people's (mis)use of it

    • @JohnSmith-ei6sc
      @JohnSmith-ei6sc Год назад

      Slipping to the inside is stupid. You being a southpaw has no affect on slipping to the inside or outside it only affects what punches you can return with after you’ve slipped. If you’re a southpaw you can still slip someone’s jab the same lol or someone’s cross it’s literally just the way you’d return is a little different or opposite we should say. It’s still the same pretty much though pal.
