That explanation is to the point. I always get hit trying to slip the cross after the jab, so naturally I started to roll after the jab. My coach keeps telling me during the drills I shouldn't roll but slip the cross, but it's just not working for me..
Wow, I wish someone had taught me this early on. I ended up adapting and doing this anyway but it took me years to figure it out by myself! It just doesn't work against a 1-2 which is the most common combination in boxing. I initially always ended up slipping and then dipping to avoid that second straight punch, going against what I was drilled on, which was slip slip then roll.
agreed frustrated myself as it took me nearly 3 years to break this habit. The only time I double Slip before ducking or rolling is if I'm far away and expecting double hooks as I come in but most opponents don't bank that much on that many hooks. Though this works great if you want to start an exchange with someone who's also a big power punching in fighter.
This video, is why coach Ant knows. Flights happen on the centerline don’t get caught, like Mr. Miyagi side walk left side safe, walk right side safe, walk middle sooner or later *splat.
Thank you! Just like some others have said, I always feel safe slipping to my right but slipping to my left feels like I'm playing with fire. It just feels too easy for the other guy to loop his right hand and nail me. I've seen people slip right late in a fight after they have timed their opponent, but only rarely, and only while trying to get a knockout with a simultaneous counter punch.
as a newbie I felt that slip slip roll is really awkward. When they taught us that in gym, I felt exactly what you were saying. In real fight while doing second slip I would be getting into the punch. thanks for explaining
Just thinking of slip slip roll I didn't feel safe. Slip roll roll is the way indeed coach. If it's slip slip roll the 1st slip must be to the left like Tyson did else that 1-2 combo will punish
That’s crazy I was watching the Holland v Buckley highlight (ufc) and Buckley gets caught with the 1, 2 early in the fight and then gets KO’d with it later because he slip slip roll.
I was a pro and I'm a southpaw When I slip , I always start with a slight duck because I don't want to slip right into a hook and get knocked out I also never slip without a punch at the same time Lead hand with a inside slip 95% of the time Rear hand with a outside slip 95% of the time Rolling is good practice but in application it's used to get into a ducked angled position then I usually throw a lead hook to the kidney then a lead corkscrew uppercut 2 punches from the lead fast
You can slip slip roll but you have to be at a distance I find myself getting hit with the cross only if I step in otherwise I can slip slip roll if I’m fighting with back foot or moving back
Personally for me slip slip roll is working better than the other one probably because I am tall and most of my opponents are shorter than me so the rolling part is kind of useless in most cases.
@@Laze18 tbf it is annoying everyone I Spar is smaller than me but I found a new gym and there's one guy that's 6ft3 so I can try out my rolling technique on him but how long have you been training for
@@jajayn3124 Lets say roughly 10 years with a few stops for some months trough the years. When I was in the Netherlands it was nice because there were people even taller than me in the gyms there. I am 192 cm/between 6.3 and 6.4 I guess.
That's generally how I would do it as well. He's right though about slipping twice being idiotic. Actually even sleeping once to the right is often enough. I think our figure out slipping consecutively just puts you in line of attack so doesn't work.
'Best way block Punch: No be there!' Slip, roll, dive, reset, ...whatever....DON'T get hit unless you've TRAINED to take hits. Average guy takes ONE mediocre hit: Full involuntary reset...y'know where that delay lands ya! All over, Rover.
Wing chun does also have center line like boxing but in wing chun it is called CENTER LINE THEORY!! And yes the wing chun stylist does not want to cross it, but , attack because all VITAL POINTS are located in the center line for example EYES,NOSE ,JAW ,SOLAR PLEXIS, and yes the GROIN!! created by a Chinese women !! Bruce Lee had one time thought this art to be superior than all kung-fu systems!! But truth is that it is not the art that makes the man!! But THE MAN THAT MAKES THE ART!! or style!!
Slip slip roll for the win!!! The kid is slowing down on hes movement not fast enough hes not flexing his waist and hips Mayweather and Canelo can do it with Ease, the kid Just train yesterday obviously he will get hit, Kid is not flexible as well theres a physical Requirement to perfect the technique,. SLIP SLIP roll should be practice for at least 3 times a week for 12 months not 12 minutes .
Just be careful with a guy who notices that pattern too much and lands a right uppercut right after the slip of the jab ...boxing is tricky stuff I love when fighters use too much head movement cuz the upper or right hook to the body can land fairly easy

I 100% agree…. Slip, Roll,Roll all day. Exactly as you pointed out, on the return slip you risk a punch when crossing the centre line.
yes, it now makes sense why my sister hits me clean with that 2
Makes perfect sense. Thanks for showing how it’s done. Always appreciate your time.
🙏🏽🥊
Perfect Timing I was Just working on this in the Gym. Rolling shots is a hidden gem in Boxing

Works in the street too, used it when someone tried to attack last year
@@RobertLewisNeville how did that happen?

Coach this is sooooooo helpful. You're making champions in the professional ring, in the amateur ring and on RUclips. Great content!!!!
🤗
Been saying this for years and have gotten a lot of push back. I appreciate that you agree.
This coach is legit🔥
This is excellent, I guess the answer is to practice both but also to be aware of the practicality behind slip roll roll
Thank you, this makes a lot of sense. Will put this into shadowboxing immediately
Going beneath the center line rather then across makes a lot of sense

Thanks for the excellent demonstration and the really clear explanation.

Yup how I train my fighters great presentation thank u

Love the effects.
Great information!!! Thanks Coach!
Sublime! Loving it! I need to integrate this into my sparring and shadow boxing. I'm guilty as charged for mainly slip-slippin

Great vid, so when I jab I should slip and roll after
Skeptical it's a good idea to practice movements that you don't want people to use.
Interesting this is a mistake I've done
💪🏽
do i engage my core when rolling under punches
This is legit !❤
Totalmente de acuerdo es mas seguro slip, roll, roll

Same with me but still think you should roll
@@jajayn3124 I do not reject rolling as a technique. Just saying that I emphasize on slips and pull outs than rolling.

what if you use the first slip as a feint and the other slip for a counter punch
What about slip roll slip
I am wondering, is rolling just better than slipping? Why not just roll only? Is it too predictable so a slip needs to be there to mix it up?
Simply basic.👌👍💪✌️💯
vary continuously ! Variare variare variare 😅
i prefer to catch slip roll, this way you don't cross the center line and it's more reactive in my book...
