Keeping weight on the front foot, not leaning too much, keeping hand up, and punching to the body as part of the roll are all useful for an issue with rolling I find a lot in my sparring. I practice jeet kune do, and we spar almost every class. Often, when I throw a hook or cross, my partner will roll, heavily leaning forward. All I need to do then is clinch. I have control of the head and can go for a guillotine choke, or tap the back of the head (not punch, just enough to let him know that in a fight, he'd take a punch to the back of the head, which is extremely dangerous).
@@Tony_Jeffries all the videos I have watched...they are all bloody useful but if I have to pick one favourite...got to be '4 realistic combinations'. I just practice that on the bag and try to apply those combos during the sparring session. Since I'm just the beginner, i just need to overcome the fear of getting hit...I have watched that video as well. It will just take time and practice 👍💪

Hi Tony ! Hope you are fine. Thank you for your tutorials. Questions: In many boxing fights I see MIKE TYSON leaning very much forward while rolling. What would you say. Is it ok, because he still have his eyes on his opponent and he is a professional (he knows what he's is doing) ? Or would you say, his leaning forward is a little bit too much ?
Tyson had a squared stance and a big part of his style (peek a boo) was rolling or slightly slipping with his head movement. He's a different case cause of his stance
Can you make a video about rolling after you punch ?I struggle with it. After I punch with my right it feels more natural to roll to the left. But I should be able to do both sides right?
I looked down when I rolled and got a hay maker straight fight on top of my head. It hurt but it hurt most cause of the knot on top of the headgear like a pebble
It's amazing vídeo as always, I remeber I used to use the counter body punch bye accident once on a sparring xD When You can, could You do a vídeo about how to counterpunch bodypunches? It would be great My Best wishes mate
You dont have to see every punch to avoid it. Just move your head in the correct direction regardless rather u see it or not it will be avoided then step back to reset if you want
Hı.Tony most of the trainers say dont lean forward while rolling.but then so much preasure on the legs when i dodge.bend at the waist should be like you say?

I like it, but stepping 90 degrees to the side leaves you open for a left hook. I was taught to step in at 45 degrees so yor head comes in under the armpit and you come up with your forehead resting on the outside of the shoulder. This takes you out of range, you are safe and in full control to do whatever you want.
Tony, sorry probably a silly question but if you're a southpaw against orthodox does it make much difference?Have had to change my stance to southpaw as my right ankle is severely arthritic. It feels less painful in this stance.
