Hello, the subtitles are no longer available in your videos, did you remove this option or is it RUclips? Because it helped me a lot for understanding, my English oral is not very good...😢
I know you’ve made many videos like this but I’m glad a coach like you gives a refresher to those that do it at home. I absolutely admire your training and I will admit, this helps me when I have no one instructing me. Thanks coach! 👍🏽
I always tried to envision the bag was a person moving, so as it's engaging I'm basically countering its momentum which has helped with my timing and confidence in sparring (being newer to Muay Thai). What Tony said is basically what I figured out works for me, I'm sure most people it's the same thing. It makes your bag work so much more useful.
I was working the heavy bag recently as best I could and indeed I felt the bag was controlling me. I can't wait to start turning these tips into habits. Tony has some great advice and delivers it in a great way. I'm subscribed!
This video is pure gold. I can't count the times that I've lost complete control over bag so i shoulder it to emulate taking big hits just to reset the bag. Thx mate you're the best
Thanks for this Tony, I've been training the heavy bag for a few years without coaching and more so recently I've found my technique suffers because I end up chasing the bag with my punches. I never thought to approach my time on the bag like this. Nice one!
Shit so that's how it's done? This is the part I hate the most when I was learning to box, nobody in the gym was teaching me how to properly intercept it. Appreciate the knowledge man
Tony you’re amazing man. I don’t have the time or money to join a boxing gym at the moment but I do have access to a normal gym with heavy bags and your videos have helped immensely with my workouts.
Great work Tony! I just started boxing and your videos are a big help. No more wrist pain after your wrap video and hopefully no more swinging heavy bags soon. Keep it up!
@Darren Harper True. Lol. Likely they just got a light bag. I had to go for a bag 30pounds heavier than me to stop the swinging. Now it only moves a little bit if I kick it hard.
@Darren Harper I'm 95 kg and I haven't encountered a bag that doesn't swing when hitting it with a 1-2. Heaviest pro bags I've seen are about 70kg. But you're right, most bags are well below 50kg.
Been watching your videos nonstop, your content is gold man! I hurt my wrist 2 years ago doing this exact mistake, got it really swinging and then threw a stiff cross … wrist problems ever since. I wish I knew about you back then!
Just went to one of my first sessions yesterday and I had no idea wtf to do with the heavy bag. Now I'll put as much as you said here into practice tomorrow! Thanks for the tips my man, loving all the videos I've watched, super helpful!
Thank you for these tips and pointers. I live in China and don't know of any coaches or trainers so you are my virtual coach. Learned a lot. Take care!
Just started kickboxing classes a few months ago and I was never taught how to control the bag . I must’ve looked pretty silly with the bag swinging .Good stuff man .
Really for me its the small tips like having a counter weight at the bottom to stop the swing so much. As a guy that has a decent home gym set up these are invaluable tips that really don't get thought of. Thanks for your advice & videos mate really appreciate your time on these.
This guy is brilliant. Just started boxing after watching this guy. These videos gave me the confidence to start hitting the bag in the gym. Cheers Tony
Dunno how I missed this video. When I get the bag swinging I usually cover up & move in close like you mentioned. I'll start working on intercepting the bag earlier now to vary it up. Thanks mate
Again, there is so much here for me, thank you Tony! I get something useful from every single video. Have you done any videos on distributing your weight with your punches? I have balance issues and struggle with where and when and how to shift my weight for maximum effect on my punches while keeping balanced.
I’ve practised martial arts for around 15 years. To us this is the ‘kick bag’ as well as heavy back. We control it obviously different to a boxer but similarly with a short sharp stun punch to bring it back under control. Fair play for doing this video, it’s a common site somebody whaling a bag with it swinging everywhere and I remember when I started, you just think you just fly into the bag as hard as you can........but as I can attest to and Tony brilliantly explains that’s not the case. If ye new to it, listen to what he says, the man knows what he’s on about.
Tony, I went into a boxing gym here in Palermo, Italy, and the only guy that spoke English took me under his wing [as no-one else spoke english], I asked him... how is your English so good! He said, Tony Jeffries! I was like, yes! I love his channel too! Amazing how he understood your accent Tony. Love you!
At first I was going to disagree with what he was saying until he got to the part of controlling the heavy bag. He's definitely right about controlling the bag in the manner he's doing it. Good stuff.
Tony. I earned a 1st degree black belt in TKD without ever learning how to properly punch. I went by a TKD school and the belts there STILL aren’t punching properly. You’re gonna help me a lot!!
Good directions. I've wondered why i had this issue but watch others and it's just hanging around, close. And they've been working the bag hard too. Thanks!
My uncle- a golden gloves boxer- taught me to make the heavybag HOP with minimal sway. You’re digging into the bag 3 inches with your knuckles and slightly throwing the punch in a tight circular motion. This is called “Throwing Anchors”. Created in the shipyards of Michigan this is one of the oldest boxing secrets.

I got mad respect for these guys who could knock most dudes out with one punch but don’t act like it. They don’t act like they are better than everyone else, but genuinely want everyone to be as beast as they are!
I've been grappling for over a year now but have never really invested any real time into striking except for the very occasional training session here and there. My normal gym where I go to lift and do spin classes does have two heavy bags that I've been eyeing up and I went and had a go today (after already doing my usual Wednesday deadlift, push up and pull up session that last apprx 1 hour btw). I was nervous to try but your videos gave me a bit of confidence to go and try without looking too stupid, so just wanted to say thank you
I love this channel. I'm nearly 48 and only started boxing training in a year and a bit ago, it's improved my fitness health stamina and confidence. I uses tonys tips to outwit my boxing trainer ( he's a muai Thai guy). Cheers mate !
I watched your video for 10 routines the other day. Never used a heavy bag and did those routines 3 mins on and 1 min rest. Loved it. By the end it was great getting close and on the inside. Fave 3 punch combo ended up being left upper, right upper (both to the body) and your favourite left hook to the ribs
My dad lived and trained with Carlos Palomino. some of these tips are good to work with a moving bag, but you want to train on a moving Target. you want to be moving around the bag 360° while you're hitting it. letting the bags swing is what helps you work on balance and timing
