I watched Part 2 first, came here, subscribed, watched part one twice before attempting, and am on my third round of practicing my form.
I'm using force to block, and I have to break that habit before I move on.
Seriously appreciate you saying take it one step at a time. I feel like people give up when they aren't quickly good at something. But when it comes to anything physical, perfecting your form is always step one. Nothing else matters until you comfortably have the proper form.
    That's just not said enough.

The way you two presented this is very helpful. I've seen others try to teach these basics without a sparring partner and it doesn't help me.

very cool vid, although I disagree at 1:33 you mentioned dont block because they can counterattack well you (the defender) can also cover his head again while the offender tries to punch you up, all I'm saying is that you have the same time to cover up while he is trying to punch you up again. other than that pretty neat vid and love the red gloves, blood red is my fav (Cleto Reyes)

New to the sport. This emphasis on defense brings strategy to a new level. I recall hearing that punches that don’t land take more energy than punches that hit the mark. Seems that solid defense can possibly fatigue an opponent or frustrate them enough to create opportunities.

I just had my first sparring session today and definitely need to improve my blocking!! In real time you just don’t know what’s about to be thrown at you, so I had a hard time trying to use the correct blocking techniques. I will watch this video several times over the next week and hopefully will get better for the sparring next week! Thanks for the video!

    1. block 1 by turning glove to face opponent
    2. block 2 by bring had to temple
    3. block 3 from chin to temple
    4. block 6 with right hand, or block with same side hand to prevent counter, or just catch with forearms to be safer
    5. catch straight body shots with elbow, slight lean in with blocking arm
    6. catch hook body shots by lean to sides
    7. block 2 hand up and roll to disspate some force, set up counter
    8. roll body hits too to counter punch
    9.
    0.

I learned this from Fighting games over time.
Defense and Neutral is where you win. Offense can run itself almost honestly.
the only somewhat tricky part of offense are good reads and setups, but defense is the hardest and most important because it cant be flow charted, its reactionary and proactive.

Great video. What i like about it is the "simple things." Like Guard. If you have a really good guard, that is your "fortress". There You should feel pretty safe. Each time you throw a punch it is like a game of "tag"...you throw a punch..but you can be hit back also. So who can get their guard back together after throwing a punch..it all happens faster than a blink of the eye.

So clearly whoever taught me boxing did not do a sufficient job since I did not learn any of this. I was taught to slip, and to keep my hands up. Really well done video and well taught.
