The amount of improv in this skit makes it seem so much more lifelike, McCarthy and Sudeikis are so incredible
I can’t believe the scale of emotions I went through. I laughed at her, then rooted for her, then felt sorry for her, then got excited for her. Great performance. They were both brilliant.

I noticed that he seems like he breaks all the time but he knows how to make it seem like it's part of the act..those subtle chuckles he does at times. I might be wrong lol but just something I noticed on most of his funniest sketches

Barb, this character actually felt real. This is why Melissa is an amazing, and horribly underrated actress. I felt emotional at the end, and happy and excited. No other snl cast member ever did that to me
Who calls her underrated?.. yes she's funny but all of her movies become the same thing after awhile. Ik a lot of people that like her but she becomes over played very quickly. I see a lot of you people saying "this person is underrated" I don't think you even know what that word means
she is a brilliant comedic actress but unfortunately her husband keeps putting her in his god awful movies

I keep coming back to this sketch because not only is it hilarious, I am just in awe of the brilliant performances of Melissa and Jason, especially knowing much of it was improvised. Such talent. One of my top 10 SNL sketches ever.

I love the way she keeps flapping the pizza slice at him.
She makes things way funnier than they are, hard to imagine who else could sell this idea. She has that Tim Conway kind of energy that just knows how to work the absurdity of the situation.

4:46 - 5:46 Felt like I was watching a play, not a tv sketch. They handled comedy and drama within that minute without breaking or trying to make each other laugh like on eeevery other snl sketch. I’d love to see them acting together in a movie or series, I know I’d watch it right away. Also, I love how Melissa brings her characters alive for a few minutes, I can imagine the life of Barb just hearing her talk, her mannerisms… she is a really great actress.

Jason and Melissa play two people who are frustrated with each other so damn well. I wish they'd write something like this with them again.
This sketch is actually quite remarkable. McCarthy doesn't appear to be reading any prompter ; it looks like she's mostly winging it. And Sudeikis seems to be in partial improvisation mode as well because he's keeping up very well with her random additions. Very rare to see that on SNL where the skits are most of the time rigorously scripted

I wonder if they wrote it together... It would explain the ability to slightly improvise if they both know the exact flow and timing of where the sketch is going, rather than just reading someone else's script.
SNL doesn't use teleprompters. They use cue cards. Yes, they both had a a few slight instances where they seemed to add a little bit off the cuff, but they are in no way winging it. All SNL sketches are scripted. They just happen to be better at not making it obvious that they're reading cards.
Or they just memorized the lines well before performing the sketch

I think the reason it's so funny is that she's moved the descriptive phrase to an incorrect place in the sentence. Melissa says, "My friends call me all the time, they say - on the phone - Barb..." when people normally say, "My friends call me on the phone all the time and say..." She turned "on the phone" into an interjection, which is nonsensical. It isn't a common mistake; I don't think I've ever heard it anywhere else, and it struck me how brilliant and distinctive it was when I first heard it. I'll have to work it into a novel some day. Melissa's the real deal.

This is one of the greatest of all time IMO. Every time I order food that disappoints me I hear the sound she made with the 2/3 day old pizza in my head, and think of a floppy slice of pizza. So many other great moments. Wish we could have seen more of Ms. Kilner... & find out if she ever did make her 2-3 million dollars eating pizza.
She should have been a cast member, she is that natural on this show. She’s actually better than the vast majority of the cast I’ve seen in my 25+ years of watching the show. Her Hidden Valley Ranch sketch is legendary.
This had to only work with Jason. Imagine Bill sitting there, he would've cracked in a minute. Melissa is fucking terrific!
I love how at points, you can tell that Jason is trying to keep himself from laughing, and in order to do so he simply adds a soft 'smile' as he's responding to her....

It's so awesome to see Kate McKinnon go from having one line in this sketch to co-starring with Melissa McCarthy in a movie as huge as Ghostbusters. This show really makes people pay their dues!
i remember watching this skit when it aired and immediately showing to all of my friends. to this day we quote barb kelner every single time we order pizza. one of my all time faves.
