Makes me cry every time. I'd give just about anything to be back in my bed as a kid, safe and warm, with this theme song coming from the living room. It doesn't feel like it was that long ago.

The American and European series were unbeatable, such as Knight Rider, Chips, Derrick, Van Der Valk, The Protectors, The Equalizer, not to mention sci-fi such as Space 1999, Buck Rodgers, Battlestar Galactica (original with Lorne Greene as Adama) and Westerns such as Bonanza and High Chaparral. The list goes on and on and today we have RUclips which features ALL these series and movies and more such as instrumental versions of theme tunes. Search for whatever comes to mind and enjoy!

My older brother became a cop because he loved watching this show. Worked his way up to Detective and Captain before he was killed in the line of duty, working under cover. Every time I hear this music, I think of my childhood and I think of him. He loved being a cop and helping people. Some of his colleagues and peers didn't like him, because he didn't mess around when it came to disciplining his men under his command. He would fire or even arrest you fast, if you were being a total asshole to people or he found you were dirty, racist, abusive with your power, or just a bad cop or being a bully cop. But many loved him for being that way.
People said they felt the safest in their lives when my brother was alive and on the force. He used to tell people, "Live your lives with peace and no fear. Leave the monsters to me and my men."
He also used to say to his men and other officers.. "If you wear the badge, and swore to protect and serve, you should pledge your life. If you betray the trust of the people who put their safety in your hands, and dishonor the badge, you should pay with your life"

    • @barryg4927

Your brother was the epitome of what it means to be a real police officer. He was a man’s man and a cops cop. He expected the people around him and working underneath him to do the job of a police officer… To serve and protect. And that’s what he did. And from what you said, he did it with absolute honor And will always be remembered that way. God love your family and Godspeed to your brother. He was one of those that brought integrity and nothing but honor to the profession. Good on him.!!!!

While I agree that it is easy to get carried away with nostalgia - I think you are right. The big difference between then and now is digital. I'm 52 so I can clearly remember a time before online . In 1985 we all lived our entire lives IRL - there was no digital life. Everything else was pretty much the same, you had school, work, cars and homes weren't that different, politics was the same, you went to the supermarket to buy food, put in the fridge and then cooked dinner. nearly everything was the same (apart from sylistically ie. the cars looked slightly different), apart from the Internet.

Back when life consisted of close circle of circle, family and dear friends, and ya didn’t really have a care in the world 🌎. Used to play with my cat and ride horses on my fam farm.
Brings me back to a much cozier time of life and I was so secure. I didn’t know how good I had it back then as a lil kid of 7 years old with my four siblings. We used to ride to the lake in our station wagon for swimming on a hot summer day and grab a mcDonalds ice cream 🍦 for like $ .25 on the way.

Up until seeing the opening credits for the first time, I never really realised that it could rain so depressingly in America (as it does in the UK) and that it could be poor and desperate! And then there is the music! So melancholy , perfectly befitting the whole narrative. There was a new realism emerging . It is a work of art .

Didn't grow up in the 80s, but I did grow up with old shows and music. Watching this brought me so much nostalgia and it makes me wonder if my past self may have watched this. I get this comfort feeling from the intro like I hold a personal relationship with it, yet I only found out about this show last week after watching other old theme songs. I like to think my past self lived in the 20th century and watched this, and that is why I am having so much nostalgia to it.
I have so much appreciation for the 20th century. Almost all of the shows and films I watch are from that time. 80s shows were these goofy, slice of life feeling types of shows and I love that about them. The intros, while some very cheesy, are soo addicting to listen to. Gotta love that about the shows from the 80s! They were simple, but well written. Like Knight Rider, Perfect Strangers and Threes Company. Although Threes Company started in '77 if I recall correcty. Not entirely an 80s show.
Thank god for RUclips. Because of it, I have found yet another intro to add to my playlist😊
