MacGyver is an American action-adventure television series created by Lee David Zlotoff. Henry Winkler and John Rich were the executive producers. The show ran for seven seasons on ABC in the United States and various other networks abroad from 1985 to 1992.
The show follows secret agent MacGyver, played by Richard Dean Anderson. MacGyver prefers non-violent resolutions where possible, and refuses to handle a gun.
He works as a troubleshooter for the fictional Phoenix Foundation in Los Angeles. Educated as a scientist with a background as a Bomb Team Technician/EOD in Vietnam ("Countdown"), and from a fictional United States government agency, the Department of External Services (DXS), he is a resourceful agent with an encyclopedic knowledge of science, able to solve complex problems with everyday materials he finds at hand, along with his ever-present duct tape and Swiss Army knife.
Richard Dean Anderson was, is, and will always be the REAL MacGyver.

@@josealmeida76 we dealt with many social and environmental issues - gun violence, the ecology, terrorist threats, topical political stories (ie The Tiananmen Square Massacre, the fall of the Berlin Wall), pollution, and we had a broad range of action adventure episodes that focused more on creative solutions over violence and mindless gunplay. I wanted to like the new show, but like most fans of the original, I gave up in the first season. I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did. They just used the popular title then abandoned the original premise and character.
Thank you for your contribution to a groundbreaking show. I am curious to know the inspiration(s) for the program, if you know; and hearing Richard Dean did many of his own stunts, those careers it gave a boost/start (Teri Hatcher!) to those people who took an interest in the Applied Sciences from watching it, just amazing!
My favorite TV show of all time always wanted to go work for the Phoenix Foundation when I was a kid but unfortunately not a real business. My favorite episode was the one with the shooting gallery and MacGyver had to help Murdock get his sister back from HIT
@@rixx46 Loved the show, but who McGuyver was, what he was expert at, and especially how he got his skills changed too much on a dime from episode to season. I wish the writers could have gotten that cleared up because sometimes it made him too perfect.

And I love the man. He's not a perfect actor, I'm honest enough to admit that; but he's got the grace to pick roles where he fits perfectly, such as Killian in the first Fallout game, or Jack O'Neill in Stargate SG-1.

Yeah, it is a great serie, also for the messages it promotes. However, now the quality of series has gone up so much that today, it might look cheap or almost silly to people who grew up in the 21th century.

The best tv show by far to come out of the 1980s hands down. Shows that follow Knight Rider A team Dukes of Hazzard and eventhough they started in the 1970s Dallas and incredible Hulk. Oh and let's not forget V and V the tv series. it's too bad that it got cancelled way too soon. Hope a movie of the 1983-1985 series gets a movie or some kind of a continuation of the series

Wow. I'm from Bangladesh, back in those days the entire country was addicted to this series. It was aired on Wednesday prime time. Everyone used to refer Wednesday as MacGyver day. No kidding.

This is just perfection. When I'm feeling depressed I think about how blessed I am to have lived throughout the best times of human history. And then I get more depressed 🤣 but happy at the same time. Nostalgia is a powerful thing. I'm sure most people reading this know exactly what I'm talking about.
I love how MacGyver ended up becoming a Colonel in the US military to explore new worlds through the Stargate.

Despite the lack of technology in some fields (for example social media) people still find a way to play nintendo, study to higher degree or university, see tv series, party etc. We're sending emails to one another. It wasn't that ancient, right? Everything seemingly, as if there were more values and 'depths' to it. Even in 2005, and now look in 2020.... it just so very different! Nowadays, the songs' quality, degraded. An impeccable cases of people getting depressed. You need 'somebody else' reading your 'diary'..... on social media, while supposely you should write the diary for your own self, and provide strategy to improve your life from it! We've done many weird things, but oftentimes it tend to complicate things. Technology is good, but because we're human, it's hard to tackle the boundaries.... especially millenials. I think that is one of the biggest challenge they need to aware of
And MacGyver even became became a verb. If you had to make a plan to fix something, you would have to "MacGyver" it.

The old one are way better then the new remake. The new one just seem like any other comedy/police drama, such as NCIS out there.
I often wonder if was it deliberate when they cast Richard Dean Anderson for Stargate SG-1. MacGyver: Hated guns, loved science. Colonel O'Neill: Loved guns, hated science. lol

When I first heard of Young MacGuver I thought they were gonna show the youth of the original MacGyver, but got really disapointed.

The reboot is just another N.C.I.S., Mission: Impossible knockoff with the characters from the original MacGyver tv show in name only with none of the personalty traits.

That said, for a somewhat alternative, contemporary take on the clever action man, _Burn Notice_ is a solid choice.
Way too late to comment, but here goes .. there have been for example Burn Notice (a burnt spy trying to get back, always making something out of household objects, even having a voice-over like Mac did) .. also maybe a show called Scorpion - a team of geniuses working on various assignments.

Growing up as a teen, I had very little money& had to improvise to make things& use makeshift solutions to fix things.the appeal of this show is so credible in that it shows Mcgivgivers his extreme resourcefulness without putting on a costume.& there was no swearing, blood or nudity which made it easily a family show.
I absolutely love MacGyver!!! My kids were little when it was on, and they'd dress up like MacGyer, and play MacGyver.
I can't wait to watch MacGyver with my grandbabies!!

I thought MacGyver was so cool when I was a kid. I remember him seeing falling down a flight of stairs in one episode and being ok, so I balled up at the top of my grandparents stairs and rocked myself back and forth till I fell down the stairs. I just remember laying at the bottom of the stairs in sheer pain. lol
