Ok. This needs to be a series. All decades, multiple installments per decade. Phenomenal idea for a video. The nostalgia hit me so hard. Especially Cheers. Especially Cheers.
I've been living in the same neighbourhood of a big city for over 30 years now. Everyone around here knows everyone else. In my neighbourhood, it's all about the cafe culture. When I walk into a cafe where everyone does indeed know my name, I sometimes think of the Cheers theme.
This just popped up on my suggestions... As a Brit, we were fortunate enough to get the majority of these shows. Watching these openings brought a wave of nostalgia: memories of simpler times, back when I was a kid (I'm 54 now). Sat in front of the TV, tuning in every week; with beloved family members, now departed... Thank you for this. For a brief moment in time - in a world seemingly gone mad - I was in a happier place, smiling warmly, thinking back.
47 years old. WOW thank you so much for the 80s . I had a wonderful childhood. Broken bones, scrapes , mud and great tv shows to watch with all the family. 😢😊
Dear 1980s... how i long for you again, and miss the good times we had. Todays world has turned to custard and the people are more evil than before. Miss you guys. Kiwi here, and when I heard cheers intro, my dad would always say, Goodnight. You have school in the morning. It came on at 8.30pm. And 8.15am the next morning, we had to be out of the house and walking to school. Man I miss them days.
Aussie here, and I miss it so much. I haven't been home since 2012. I miss "Home and Away". We had about five channels, one of which was Mandarin half the time.
Not forgetting Chips. Here in the UK, we only had 4 channels until 1997, so to watch all these American shows we always got them on a Saturday. Dukes of Hazard was always on Channel 1, so if the others were on at the same time, which were always ITV (channel 3), then put came the VHS recorder and we taped it. I'm now 49 years old and i told my 18 year old daughter how primitive and simple we lived tech wise and she thinks it's the stone age but the 80s rocked. Good times.
Same in Australia. We had about five channels until the nineties. I remember being stuck to the television when "Home and Away" came on. And we had Cosby (yuck), Who's the Boss?, Night Court, Coronation Street, Magnum P.I., etc. Super random programmes at odd hours. I moved to California when I was fifteen, and I was shocked by the number of television channels there are in America. And now, there are so many more channels and streaming services, 95 percent of which are crap.
It's funny to me that Brits enjoyed The Dukes of Hazzard...meanwhile here in America i was 12 years old in 1988 and was watching Steptoe and Son and Doctor Who on PBS 8 thinking that they were the greatest shows ever 😂❤
Here in Portugal, we watch the majority of all these shows. Knight Rider, MacGyver, A-team, Dukes of Hazzard, Cheers, Moonlighting, Miami Vice are still remember by my generation (i was born in 78) untill today. All in the Family, Maude, Galatica, are also shows that we love back then.
I wish we could go back to the 80s, and 90s .. It was the best time ever to grow up and have nothing to worry about! The only thing you could worry about then was if you missed an episode of your favoriete tv show! Best days ever!❤️
People claim we only want to go back is to be young again. It is so much more than just being young again. I want to experience it like it was all new again. If you didnt live it you will never understand. "Be carefull out there"
That’s exactly it. My girls asked me the other day to describe the 70’s & 80’s and why they were so great. It was hard but I did my best to explain the innocence, freedoms, the actual unbotheredness of being a child and teen of GenX. And then I encouraged them to try and recreate it! I have a feeling that we are on the precipice of a rebirth of prosperity in the US!!
These shows had some lovely lead actressses who unparalleled up to this day: Cybill Shepherd, Victoria Principal, Donna Mills, Veronica Hamel, Stephanie Zimbalist, Heather Thomas, Connie Selleca, and the awesome foursome of The Golden Girls. Joan Collins was missing though. Dynasty's clip was from an earlier season. She didn't join the cast until the sophomore and third season. Thank you for putting this together!
I remember feeling excited and exhilarated when the opening titles would play! It was a wonderful time to grow up. They don't make them like this anymore.
My brother whose in his 50s now loved watching Falcon Crest, the star Jane Wyman was the ex wife of the President at the time in the 1980s Ronald Reagan.
It was also because you only got to see it right then, at that exact time, or miss a week. (only people with VCRs could record it, but not many did that for random series) my parents didn't own a VCR until the nineties
Born in 74 and grew up watching many of these shows with my family. They were really wonderful times. So much freedom and happiness. Pity my favourite of the lot was cut short here - Magnum P.I. what a show. Thank God I grew up in the 80s ❤❤❤
Another 74 baby here! I was an A-team theme fan, but Magnum was also a classic. And Knightrider. And Cheers. Oh and Hill Street Blues was the first thing I learnt on piano. Come to think of it, everything in the 80s was a classic. I know, I know, I'm biased...
Indeed. I genuinely got excited. These days I hardly watch series anymore because it's just "mm ok let me put my feet up and chill". I feel quite indifferent about modern TV programs.
Grew up in the 80s and watched most of these shows. Man, hearing these theme songs brings such strong feelings of nostalgia. No internet, cell phones, or social media. Played outside all day. If I had a time machine I'd go back and experience it all over again.
The early to mid 2000s had some decent TV shows and even movies. The Office for one, Lord of the Rings for another. After 2010 everything went straight down hill though. There are a few hidden gems. Now in 2024, entertainment is abysmal
Totally agree, it was far more entertaining than now, with multiple channels, and I remember how great is was having so many shows from the US here in the UK.
Great as always. If anyone wants a terrific introduction to 80s prime time TV, this is it. I know that at least a few of those songs charted-"Fame", "The Greatest American Hero" and "Miami Vice" come to mind.
I was a teen of the 80s and grew up watching American shows in Singapore. I loved Remington Steele!! The chemistry between Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist was hot! I also loved the A-Team, Knight Rider and V!!!
The one word that comes to mind that can describe perfectly the 80's as a decade is: "cool". I grew up with all these and in my oppinion, the 80's were the best decade in history. Everything about it from TV Shows, movies, music, cartoons, etc was fantastic. When you were watching these shows back then, they all gave you a sense of coziness that was unique. To this day, I make it a habit of watching pretty much all these shows regularly. Thank you for this superb montage! The 90's have to be next😁
Full House I used to watch during my lunch time about fifteen years ago and it was very popular in Brazil. But MacGyver was a real fever in Brazil in the 80’s and 90’s. It was such a success that, even nowadays, when a guy is smart enough to solve problems quickly, people call him MacGyver. Both TV shows was a huge success in Brazil and they are still remembered.
Great Memories of growing in The 80s. Like Hart To Hart was the last thing I watched every single Sunday night before bed ready for school in the morning. V One of if not the best mini series on TV ever. Here in The UK I don't ever remember seeing 21 Jump Street or Full House on our TV 🤔 I've always loved TV Themes over the years. So thanks For the huge flashback 😎📺
Honestly I don’t remember that show but I ironically remembered the theme songs. It seems like a good theme song was critical back then. Maybe even helped people tune in….just for the song.
I was born in 1977, so very much a child of the 80’s. The tv we had as kids was brilliant. Only 4 Channels. Amazing theme tunes. Nothing like this today. 1984 was 40 years ago! I pity today’s children. They will never experienced these special times. Obviously we tend to look through Rose tinted spectacles, but I’d go back in a heartbeat.
The theme song from Cheers, OMG, thats the one song that I really loved back then. But all those drama series from the 80s plus sitcoms, they were the epitome of the heights of television.
I was born in the early 90s and I love 80s shows. I can't believe that the Family Ties or the Growing Pains theme song wasn't on this list. By far they were two of the best theme songs of the 80s. They used to make me feel warm and safe as a kid growing up in a dysfunctional home.
I havent watched the video yet but I was so looking forward to hearing the Family Ties theme song. It's my absolute favorite one. Anytime I hear it as an adult, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and brings me back to simpler times. Now I'm bummed it's not on here 😕
Loved the list but that was my first thought, too. They also missed Facts of Life, Different Strokes, Love Boat, Fantasy Island. Really, they could do a part 2 and get another 30+ minutes video.
Man, I miss the 80s. Im so grateful to have been a kid back then. Best tv shows, best movies, best music, no social media, Mtv actually played music videos, and we played outside and had a BALL. Best time to be alive, honestly.
Knew where your friends were by the bikes in the yards, hone when street lights on, and Saturday Morning cartoons. I so miss the 80s; wonderful time to grow up
5:35 The Sax work for the Cagney and Lacey intro is outstanding! Born in 75 so I remember a lot of these themes. But I didn't become a musician until the '90s. Now I'm listening and I can really appreciate how killing that is😊
Oh my lord, the nostalgia slammed into me like a tidal wave lol. I'm 48 and still remember all of these. And I also still remember some others not on the list like Tales of the Gold Monkey, Wizards and Warriors, LA Law. Good times.
I'm pretty sure Mike Post had a hand in at least half of these in some way, shape or form. Also,so so many of these still hold up well today. say what you will about MacGyver, the theme tune is still fantastic
We got a lot of these translated into Spanish… thanks for that era now long gone… it was such a good time and personally I didn’t know how truly good were those times. Now in 2024 I never thought things would turn out to be the way they are now. Thankfully I did live the 80’s…
This video makes me realize that I watched waaayyy too much TV growing up. I knew every show here, even the ones I didn’t watch. 😅 Damn it was great growing up in the 80’s. It really sux that we can’t travel back in time 😢
Thank you so much for taking me back to my youth. So much better than having instant access streaming, and social media. You had to be physically present on any given night to enjoy entertainment. Today’s youth will never understand this.
Ha! Ha! Ha1 That's exactly what people were saying about the world in the 80's (i.e. it's a "sick world"). Also, "the 80's generation was the most selfish, materialistic one". Yup...heard it all the time.
You can't even compare the 80's to nowadays. Social Media has bred generations of morons with delusions of importance without earning anything. In turn these people have zero sense of conscience. I suspect you weren't even born in the 80's and if you were then it's far more likely you were born on the back end of it so you wouldn't have really experienced it.. Not saying it was perfect but it was less complicated and manipulative. Nowadays kids of all ages have access to adult movies through their tech and media, which has hastened the decline of any morality, standards or compassion. They view that as how life is and treat people with the same devaluation. The incessant need for instant gratification from _clicks_ & _Friending_ numbers has only fueled mental breaks. People being unable to accept that the things they post on social media are not as important as they think. How not everybody will like what they say or do. How social decline is prevented when an individual starts tacking stock and responsibility for what they say and post and stops the cycle. Unable to form meaningful relationships because of a lack of empathy for anyone else. It is all about the _me me me_ and _now now now_ . People not doing their due diligence in things such as current affairs. Everything is easy with the click of a button and everyone has an opinion but people will seldom bother to go to or past page 30+ to check independent sources and because of that they view sites like Wikipedia as some sort of bastion of truth which further facilitates a low brain function and makes them far more pliable to be manipulated and controlled. To measure the bad things of that time with the bad things of today is quite a massive leap.@@jenniferwilcox9759

A series might only last a season or two, but a great theme song lives forever
We had an awesome childhood. ❤ The 80s had the best tv series', the best movies, and best music of our generation. ❤
By far.
Eh. 90s > 80s I grew up in both and 90s rule easily
Not really
@@ShifuCareagaI grew up in both and I disagree but it’s the beauty of life, we can agree to disagree 😊

This brought back so many childhood memories. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
1984: I can’t wait to see what the future will be like 40 years from now!
2024: I wish it was the 80s again!
That’s me
Exactly my thoughts. The early 2020s have sucked big time
Pretty much. A shame I can’t go back in time and warn them…

Ok. This needs to be a series. All decades, multiple installments per decade.
Phenomenal idea for a video. The nostalgia hit me so hard. Especially Cheers. Especially Cheers.
i second this notion!
And my bow!
I mean I third this!
And Hill Street Blues. Cheers from the Pacific West Coast of Canada.
I've been living in the same neighbourhood of a big city for over 30 years now. Everyone around here knows everyone else. In my neighbourhood, it's all about the cafe culture. When I walk into a cafe where everyone does indeed know my name, I sometimes think of the Cheers theme.
The Cheers theme song always gets to me...probably my favorite.
Wow! This is a time capsule. As a kid from the eighties it was a daily routine to hear this intros or knowing by heart the themes.
Great video!
Miss the 80’s. What a time to be alive.

I'm the same age as you. When my parents really wanted to punish me for something, they'd send me to bed before Knight Rider. It was devastating.
@@luther1546 hahaha I can imagine. I'm surprised you didn't call child services on them. 🤣
You right people are more evil than B4 it's the end of Time
People are just as evil. We're just paying more attention.
Those days were magic compared to today. Now society is going to hell in a handbasket
@@JLee-g6w AIDS was truly magical.
Well, Chips was in fact from the late 70’s
@@robertoaguiar8082 yes it was but I didn't watch it until about 1981 and sure America would have had it aired before we did here in UK.
Knight Rider always puts a smile on my face 😄
Here in Portugal, we watch the majority of all these shows. Knight Rider, MacGyver, A-team, Dukes of Hazzard, Cheers, Moonlighting, Miami Vice are still remember by my generation (i was born in 78) untill today. All in the Family, Maude, Galatica, are also shows that we love back then.

Absolutely. Can someone invent time travel already since we’ve seen it in so many movies?
People claim we only want to go back is to be young again. It is so much more than just being young again. I want to experience it like it was all new again. If you didnt live it you will never understand. "Be carefull out there"
The music, movies, clothes, television shows and enough technology for the times.
perfeito, é exatamente isso. os 80th são os melhores anos
Omg..Hart to Hart was my favorite. Used to watch it every single week. I'm almost in tears longing for the 80s again.😢
Me too😢😢
These shows had some lovely lead actressses who unparalleled up to this day: Cybill Shepherd, Victoria Principal, Donna Mills, Veronica Hamel, Stephanie Zimbalist, Heather Thomas, Connie Selleca, and the awesome foursome of The Golden Girls. Joan Collins was missing though. Dynasty's clip was from an earlier season. She didn't join the cast until the sophomore and third season. Thank you for putting this together!
The 80s is a drug that you can never OD on but only makes you feel more alive.
God, i feel like crying ....so grateful to have been little in this decade....the 80s were truly special for entertainment
you can cry. it's okay.
It brought tears to my eyes too... Great times indeed! 🥹
I remember feeling excited and exhilarated when the opening titles would play! It was a wonderful time to grow up. They don't make them like this anymore.
They don't make theme songs at all any more. 😞 Why waste precious airtime on music and cast members' names when they can get right to the plot?
My brother whose in his 50s now loved watching Falcon Crest, the star Jane Wyman was the ex wife of the President at the time in the 1980s Ronald Reagan.
It was also because you only got to see it right then, at that exact time, or miss a week. (only people with VCRs could record it, but not many did that for random series) my parents didn't own a VCR until the nineties
They do not.
@trevorcarey3997 Same here.

Born in 74 and grew up watching many of these shows with my family. They were really wonderful times. So much freedom and happiness. Pity my favourite of the lot was cut short here - Magnum P.I. what a show. Thank God I grew up in the 80s ❤❤❤
I'm 9 years older than you but I have the same sentiments. 3 networks, family times, no social media, kids played outside....I miss it terribly.
Born in 77 here. We were so lucky to have the 80s-90s. I talk to people born after 9/11. I feel bad for them. God help us and this nation
Yeah man, '72 here and Magnum PI was my favorite too, awesome show.
More freedom? Bizarre thing to say, but Americans do seem weirdly obsessed with freedom despite having way less than civilised countries.
It’s easy to say we never knew how good we had it, but even back then we knew it was awesome TV
There is more entertainment value in one night of 80’s TV than in the entirety of television since 2000.
Not really. It's just the same.
The early to mid 2000s had some decent TV shows and even movies. The Office for one, Lord of the Rings for another. After 2010 everything went straight down hill though. There are a few hidden gems. Now in 2024, entertainment is abysmal

So many classic themes, brings tears to my eyes.
I was a teen of the 80s and grew up watching American shows in Singapore. I loved Remington Steele!! The chemistry between Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist was hot! I also loved the A-Team, Knight Rider and V!!!
I concur with everything you said about Remington Steele & Stephanie Zimbalist.

Jump street was definitely on sky tv in about 1988. Full house was on somewhere, because I recall seeing some episodes.

Long time ago, was my ringtone...
I love that theme it’s stuck in my head.
What about The Greatest American Hero? Or was that ‘90s?
The series is available in YT.
Honestly I don’t remember that show but I ironically remembered the theme songs. It seems like a good theme song was critical back then. Maybe even helped people tune in….just for the song.
If i could turn back time...80s were great...thx for all the memories...❤❤❤

I was born in the early 90s and I love 80s shows. I can't believe that the Family Ties or the Growing Pains theme song wasn't on this list. By far they were two of the best theme songs of the 80s. They used to make me feel warm and safe as a kid growing up in a dysfunctional home.
I havent watched the video yet but I was so looking forward to hearing the Family Ties theme song. It's my absolute favorite one. Anytime I hear it as an adult, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy and brings me back to simpler times. Now I'm bummed it's not on here 😕

Ha!
