the most beautiful flying model of an F-104 that I've ever seen.....
A really excellent display , it cant be much fun flying a twitchy model like this, the whole time it seems to be wanting to drop out of the sky, but the detail on this is exceptional, and to keep it in the air must be a constant problem, I think the full size was a very difficult aeroplane to fly, and that must have been packed with computer gyros and other aids, so this flyer deserved our utmost respect, as does the cameraman !
Loved the 104 sence I was a kid, learned everything about it. Went to every air show I could and watched with glee the demos and the Blue Angeles. Got the great fortune to meat a 104 pilot who flew in red flag events and instructed German pilots on how to fly it. He told me of the nicknames they gave it and told me about why thay came about. It seams that the runways there are about as long as you need to make a landing and stop. He told them that if you can't hit the end of the runway do not attempt a landing. He said that was a problem. Of all the models I've seen this one is by far the most realistic. I say put a servo on the little pilot to make his head swivel, then film it and you could fool many into thinking that it's a real one. Simply gorgeous!

Oddly, I wasn't hearing the Thunderbirds' theme music I was visualising Thunderbirds. That plane appears to be from that era of similar looking craft.

Beautifully built and beautifully flown. When you consider how difficult it was for real F-104 pilots to fly real F-104's without crashing them it makes this even more impressive.
GRRR ... the real F-104s weren't difficult to fly without crashing them.
A lot of them crashed, but in the case of the German Air Force and Navy (which is what seems to come to everyone's mind despite the fact that the Canadians actually had a higher loss rate), the number of crashes decreased dramatically once changes started being made that did *NOTHING* to change the aerodynamics of the aircraft, like getting the maintenance folks better trained and then retained once trained.
If it weren't for the fact that you showed the "human" pilot on the ground with the radio, I'd swear it was the "real deal". Exact detailing and thought went into this and the flying was top notch. Still can't believe that this is a model. Cheers, everyone and thanks for sharing. Can't say enough about this one.
Ah yes, the WidowMaker. Chuck Yaeger almost met his maker when had a harrowing high altitude run go awry....that is putting it mildly.

An incredibly detailed model of the most beautiful airplane ever designed. And I bet the real ones were just as twitchy as the model.
I kind of got the idea that it was less twitchy once the first 3 minutes fuel had burned off, then it really got its teeth in.
...but I was wrong, on second look :)

That is the most realistic RC model plane I think I have ever seen! Beautiful work and fantastic flying skills.
I find the landings the most impressive part - most jet fighters have all the glide characteristics of a house brick, and the F104 wasn't exactly over-endowed with wing area.
Ok, now i can say this is one of the best RC Pilots who actually flies and can land without wrecking his model! Amazing RC Flight Skills. AMAZING! I dont see him wrecking his bird anytime soon. Wow.

I love looking at RC jets and airplanes on RUclips. I don't own any models or know this particular owner but I must say that this jet, the F-104 Starfighter is EASILY one of my top 3 on the internet right now. I'm a sucker for B-17 Flying Fortresses and B-29 Mitchells also. Great flying and paint scheme.... Well done.

The most amazing RC scale model jet flights and model I have ever had the pleasure to view! Using the F-104 Starfighter.the “Missile with a man in it” as a subject to build was difficult enough but piloting such a difficult aircraft to fly 2 feet off the ground was absolutely awesome! The full scale ones were notoriously difficult to pilot for the uninitiated and needed to be flown at high speed to maintain lift on those razor sharp stubby wings and landed nose high to bleed off speed. Designed in the 50’s by Lockheed’s “skunk works,” quite a few were sent to the West German Luftwaffe during the Cold War. Unfortunately, many pilots weren’t aware of the 104’s flight characteristics, and lost their lives in crashes. Not this RC pilot! He has mastered and tamed this beautiful beast!

Wow! The way Thomas flew this Beautiful Jet ,makes me wish I was that little pilot in the Seat.
It’s quiet difficult for me to put my thoughts down here... well it’s a damned good pilot and as well model. Today’s technology helps to make this kind of demonstration reality. Fantastic and great job. My thanks goes to Horst who captured this for us.

Only thing I would add to this stunning model would be a detachable drag chute when it landed that would be awesome oh and thanks for not putting music on there the jet sounds great enough
SWEETEST plane I've seen so far, next to the Virgin Atlantic 747 jumbo jet that flew. These LARGE R.C's are really something else.

This may be the best looking, most realistic RC plane I have ever seen, and I was a crew chief on real F-16s in the USAF!

The aircraft has a Real presence on taxi and is incredibly realistic. I noticed that piloting this plane must take more skill than usual because it seems the aeronautical characteristics of the plane are such that it truly handles best at high speed.

The original serving in the German Airforce was called " the widowmaker' as there were many fatalities.
It was a good concept as a fast aircraft with such a small wing area and anhedral but with that philosophy, one needs continuous power available as otherwise, it will sink like a stone.

Negative Dihedral on the wings?!? Hats off to any RC pilot that can fly anything that unstable
The presence of anhedral (AKA negative dihedral) does not automatically make an aircraft "unstable" as its use on any number of aircraft clearly indicates.
For example, the A-7; A-8; B-47; B-52; C-141; C-5; C-17; Mitsubishi F-1; and Dassault F-1, Alphajet, and Falcon all have anhedral on their main wings or horizontal stabilizer and none have never been called "unstable" as a result.
Anhedral and dihedral are tools for an aircraft designer to control its behavior.
In the case of the F-104, the anhedral was added to change its behavior during a turn when its tail, which is large relative to its wings, would cause excess roll.
It's *A Good Thing* to keep in mind that the F-104 was designed by Kelly Johnson and Company, all well respected aircraft designers who damn well knew what they were doing (if not the best damn aircraft designers on the planet at the time), and they were not interested in creating an aircraft that was "unstable".
So while the video does show excellent piloting skills, to the extent that the model imitates the real thing, it is *NOT* "unstable" because of its anhedral.
