- Ali Machinchy is flying his Starfighter F-104 at the Noon-Show at the Joe Nall Week 2016
Model Data:
Lockheed Martin F-104 A/C Starfighter
Scale: 1/4
Wingspan: 1.7m (1.8 m with tanks)
Lenght: 4.2m
Turbine: B300F
Kit: Airworld
The model was built by Trond Hammerstad in Norway. Painted in paints and markings from Ralle at Tailormade and pilot is from Tailored pilots in the UK.
Came across this video just few weeks ago. I keep watching it. not many jet pilots can bring such an unstable aircraft full of fuel seconds after take off and land it down wind so perfectly and exactly on the spot. Emergency landing perfecto. I am a very proud father and number one fan of Ali. Well done son.
Thanks Dad!
Holy shit that tail got close to the ground
Best model, best pilot, best photographer, best video !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jim Cameron *_thanks for the compliments. much appreciated !_*
Wow👍
Jim Cameron ...and best aircraft type ever, if I may add...
Whenever I was a kid. You know when they had all these "B Sci-Fi movies, space movies and this f-104 is one of the aircraft that was used a lot. I thought that it was literally the coolest aircraft ever made. When I was a young I love this aircraft I loved just watching it in the movies. I love the f-104, And I think it's cool that this individual has an RC aircraft of a f-104, I love it. Thank you very much for showing this video.
What a wonderful model, and how wonderfully it flies. That low-level inverted manoeuvre was truly astonishing.
I attempted to make the same scale model as a thirteen year old in 1957, but my younger brother put paid to it by entering the room and throwing himself over an easy chair on which I had just placed across its arms the finished wings and centre section.
I went on to be an aeroengineer, my brother an astrologer.
I may have some sort of bias, but this is the best model and performance I have ever seen. Good camera work, too. :)
Lol. My older brother "put paid" to nearly all of my models when we were kids. Usually found the remnants of them and firecracker bits scattered in the back yard. I didn't find it nearly as amusing back then, but time has changed my perspective.
It took me a while, too. :)
Tony I suspect at one moment you wanted to be a fratricidal maniac!
Heart skipped a beat on that low roll XD Fantastic pilot!
aircraft ......unbelievable .........pilot .....absolute gun .......loved the first landing with massive flare
WOW! How things have changed over the years. While stationed at Scott AFB in 1970 they had an Air Show and a guy built an RC Model of the then new C5A Galaxy (about 1/2 to 3/4 the size of this model). There were doubts that it would fly but he got it up couple feet and flew about 40-50 yards. I know it doesn't sound impressive but back then there were no model jet engines. It used the standard RC combustion engines of the day and the props were hidden by the engine cowlings on the model.
As impressed as I was with the model...i was even moreimpressed by your handling of the controls. Great job of flying it!
This has to be the most beautiful jet model plane I've seen. It even sounds exactly like the real thing, I remember that distinctive sound from my childhood!
Toddler Trump _Thank you for your kind comments. I'm glad to know that you liked the video!_
Mr. Horst ...for president !!!..The most dangerous inverted ever (7:54).Thanks so much for sharing.
_he he he ... THANK YOU, Josip._ Maybe in my 2nd life ;)
Gawd, what a beautiful airplane. The maneuvers you did were fantastic!
Congratulations, beautiful scale like flying. One can never get enough of that.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this,, superb flying.
I've had this video saved for some time but I've never watched - until today.
THIS IS SOME OF THE MOST FEARLESS FLYING I'VE EVER SEEN!
A BARREL ROLL LESS THAN FIVE FEET OFF THE GROUND! TRUE NERVES OF STEEL !
Surely the pilot isn't the builder or the benefactor of this bird!
Felicitaciones desde Argentina. Una hermosura el avión, el piloto de lo mejor que he visto en el manejo de RC. Extraordinario. Sigan así.-
Best Piloting Model In the last years !!!
All that was missing was the J-79 shriek/howl & the smoke trail.
And maybe a couple of Sidewinders
+Eastern Woods Don't forget the Vulcan gatling gun.
and maybe a Brake Parachute.
I couldn't help but imagine a "BOOM" on high speed fly-pasts..! So impressive, thanks for posting.. .
Maybe a oil vapor injection into the exhaust can for a smoke trail - that is, if weight and CG will allow for it.
wow, that was the best pilot I have seen so far!
very impressive
looked like Chuck Yeager himself was flying :)
The only thing that matched this incredible Starfighter was the skilled pilot controlling it. That was freaking Awesome!
*_THANKS !_* 👍😎
this is the best rc video i have eeeever seen!! thanks so much...when you did that roll...oo my good!!
wow!!!!!!..that was awsome....this guy is really pushin the envolope of this model...he,s really good...
Gorgeous looking plane! I have a 1/1 version mounted on a pole near my house.. Great iconic design (and tricky to land IRL :P)
I really liked that first high alpha landing in your video :D
As allways. very well captured sir!

Look at google maps, realy nice from above 😄
Loved the real airshow routine
I am highly impressed with this model and it's handler:)
Awesome! Especoally the landing.
Well done.
This is the best model aircraft I have ever seen. Brilliant flying, and very well videoed. I like the afterburner effect! It is amazing that this model flies so well and that there is enough lift from the wings. I wonder if the wing section is the same as the original craft. It looks to be very thin at 7:16. It looks exactly like a full-scale plane.
Great Video...Awesome RC plane....and Excellent Flying !
_Thank you for the compliments !_
This might be the biggest f104 rc model operational in existence.
No widows were made during the making of this film ;-)
Great model!
I thought he was gona STUFF it, incredible piet skills!!!! I fly remote control jets electric and I'll never be that good
AMAZING !! Can it also fly without wing-Tiptanks ? tht would be Awesome !! Brings back memories !! Great respect !! ;-D
That thing's gotta be squirrelly as hell at low speeds with those stubby little wings.
A great Pilot 👍
What tough choices Ali Machinchy must have, does he fly the beautiful 262 or the 104? HA! The AB ring is a cool effect. Nice coverage on the flight Horst.
bob dyer _Oh yes ... Ali has a lot of great planes and he knows how to fly them._
Thank you for your kind comments, Bob. Much appreciated !
Really nice flying.
what a Great Model and Great flying. it Sounds so real too. the engine should emit more smoke though ;)
Outstanding ! One of my favorite jets. Now realy, was that low alt roll almost the end of it ? I mean, the tail fin looked VERY close to the ground. Great plane, great flying, great video.
They called the 104 - the flying coffin .
That's amazing. Sounds like a full sized jet. How much does that cost to build?
I love the landing at 6:58
Nice video Horst!
gino _vant1 *grazie mille !!!*
Crazy Amazing!!!!!!! Super Cool!
Beautiful jet.
seriously impressive.
I love that bird.
thank you !
Magnificent!
I've flown Cessnas, Piper's, Flight Safety's Full-Motion Gulfstream G-II & G-IV Simulators (@Savannah International Airport) & have flown in MANY aircraft [i.e. DC-8; B-727/737/757/767/747/777; MD L-1011; B-707; several turboprops & U.S. Military Aircraft {Guardrail; Huey's; Blackhawks; C-130; C-141; as a former M.I. It flies like it's on a rail, so stable & CG appears Spot-On! Finally (I KNOW, Right!😁), that Arrow-Straight, Smooth, Low-Level Pass was THE #1 BEST I'VE EVER SEEN. KUDOS TO WHOMEVER DID THIS..iow, "WOW!"
EPIC INVERTED PASS!!!!
*_THANKS !_* 😉👍
Now that is cool!
Now that is just Bad Ass !!!
This RC version flys better than a real Starfighter.
Chuck Yeager has been really quiet since this came out.
A few questions: the tail looks more like that of a later f104G, is that correct? Also, does the model exhibit the same high-Angle-Of-Attack instability and stall characteristics as it's big brother?
Do you guys know why did the pilot check at the beginning ?
Does it need computer stabilization to fly? The real one did. How fast will it go?
awesome
That’s One Badass

Yeah, he's a regular here. Don't expect a reply. No doubt his messages are at 99+ all the time.
TAOFLEDERMAUS *_thank you for watching and commenting, my friend._* YES ... it was really close 😎
I saw that, during the roll when the wings were vertical he lost altitude and almost hit the ground. Some rudder action would helped to avoid that but would be hard to process accurately using handset controls and no time forgiveness. I wonder how much that aircraft costs U.S. dollars?
In the real aircraft there was very little use of the rudder and if the dynamics on the RC model were 100% accurate it would be impossible to fly. That being said, it looks very good and the pilot/operator was doing a great job
I've always considered this Aircraft to be one of those that was out there on the edge for it's day. I grew up when these things were still in the US Air Force Inventory and still flying. Today, they are long since remembered for what they were, extremely fast and space aged for their day. This model is absolutely gorgeous! It's superb in every detail, right down to the paint job and markings. I keep coming back to this video, time and time again and watching it. It makes me think of the real thing, right down to the screaming sound they used to make when performing a high speed pass at full afterburner. That's how beautifully built and flown this aircraft is.....Simply amazing craftsmanship and flying. I would have to say that this is one of the premier flights in the realm of RC coverage. My hats off to the builder and pilot of this bird, as well as the cameraman for some awesome coverage of the flight. Simply an enjoyable thing to watch and one that brings back memories of a time long ago during the golden age of Century Jet Aviation.
Totally and completely agree with you
Canada had these until the mid 1980s. As a kid in Germany, I loved watching these things flying overhead.
My dad, who has since passed away, had the privilege of flying the F104 in the early days of Vietnam. I listed to him tell stories my entire life about the “lawn dart”, and how it felt to be in control of “the missile with a man in it”. One of the coolest stories he told me was when he was the last aircraft to take off of a flight of 10, and the first one on target, because it was that fast. He said lighting the afterburner felt like driving a car and getting rear-ended by a tractor trailer. Lucky, lucky man he was. Love the F104.
What he said! Agree.
My compliments to the videographer who captured Ali doing his thang so nicely.
Mike Anderson *_thank you for the compliments, Mike. Much appreciated !_*

paskapants yes *thank you for watching and commenting!*
The most kickass flying show. The best I've ever seen. Amazing, what a good video!
_Thank you for your kind comments. Much appreciated !!!_
That is the most stunning piece of flying I've ever seen. Amazing
I recall standing at the end of the runway (now referred to as "Baden Airpark") in Baden Sölingen in maybe 1979, watching 104s come in to land. Even at idle, the noise from the J79 was utterly deafening.
This is one impressive model, and the pilot has some serious skills.
I grew up with the RCAF in Baden-Solingen, my father flying F-86 Sabres there in the 1950s and again with the CF-104s in the 1960s. Dad was one of the first RCAF 'Legend" instructors on the CF-104 in 1961, he trained a lot of pilots in Canada at Cold Lake and at Baden. Great memories!
WHY did I click on this? I don't even LIKE the F-104. This R/C pilot's routine was flawless. Landing that plane both times impressed me even more than all the flight, except, of course, for the low level roll. I'm SO glad I saw this!
F.N. Haole....couldn't agree more except the statement about not liking the F-104.
F.N. Haole *_Thank you very much for your kind comments. I'm very glad to know that you liked the video._*
_Much appreciated ! ! !_
Mark Lambert _Thanks Mark !!!_
RCScaleAirplanes what is the airspeed on the RCF f-104. Great flying great video thanks.
How can you dislike this Plane, together with the F-8 crusader this is the sexiest plane ever built
To be really authentic, it would have to end up in some German's garden.
*_LOOOOL_* ;)
Der widowmaker.
True...one version nearly did in General Chuck Yeager in his glory days.
To be EVEN MORE authentic you'd have to sell it to the German first, even when he didn't want it and it didn't do what he needed it to do. Then cover up the fraud for 30 or 40 years.
I was looking for a comment like this hahaha!
So many times, you see expensive RC jets flown (and crashed) by people who can barely handle the thing. It's nice to see someone who has mastered their RC aircraft and do some impressive flying with it. Both landings where absolutely wonderful...
Darth Belal _Thank you for the compliments. Much appreciated !!!_
Well, I guess Ali is arguably one of, if not the best scale RC pilot in the world right now, particularly of gas turbine powered models. I'll never forget seeing him do a show-line long low, slow roll in a big A10 at Cosford, UK. However he IS human and I've seen a video of him losing a beautiful Hawker Hunter, though that may have been a radio problem. It's my excuse when I 'dumb thumb' :)
RCScaleAirplanes will second that comment. Flown very nicely. Lovely jet too.
Yep that flare on 1st landing was ideal. Cannot be an easy model to fly, let alone land it, with those little wings and the high airspeed req'd just to keep it in the air
Wow, what a beautyful Starfighter! Amazing Man! I know how difficult the real one is to Land and TakOff, so KUDOS to Ali's expert Flying Skills! That low pass Roll made my hair stand up :)
WanderfalkeAT *_Thank you for your great comments !!!_*
Hell, I lost bladder control.
RC jet videos are usually not as exciting to watch as other aircraft types, but this one is one of the best I have ever watched. Beautiful aircraft, amazing video!
_Thank you very much for your kind comments. I'm very glad to know that you liked the video !!!_
Awesome!!! Where overflown many times by 104s in the 70s when sailing in german waters, this looked and sounded so real! Great stuff!
Flying inverted at 5 feet above the ground, EPIC!

Inverted at 5 feet doing probably 160 kts
Was that as hard as I think it was?
really cool till it got caught in the Enterprise tractor beam Capt Crristopher called out bluejay 4 to black jack
They look real, the model and the flight ! No need to say more ! ! !
_THANK YOU !!!_
This is the best rc jet video I have ever seen. It has it all in spades - perfect model, perfect pilot and perfectly shot video. An rc pilot who asks themself "would the real thing fly this way?" will floor an audience.
Sorry F 104 had a radar observer

The landing made my day. Absolutely perfect
As beautiful as a jet can be...the F-104 Starfighter. A great model...a joy to behold in flight!!!!!

@2:24 i thought it was gonna crash but damn, you pulled it of
This was a awesome jet! I remember this demo. You did a fantastic job keeping it in frame as always. 😉👍🏼
Chad Cole _Thank you my friend._
Can't wait for the 2017 edition 😎
What an incredibly beautiful and beautifully flown model. I'd like to ask if the landing speed was much higher than other very large RC jets? The real F-104 was known for its very high landing speed and it needed bleed air over it's wings to keep its landing sane.
_Thank you for your great comment. Much appreciated._ 👍👍👍
As you've mentioned already, the landing speed of the F-104 is something what the Rc pilot has to consider as very a important point. Due to it's very small and tiny wings, it flies like a rocket.
If you like the Starfighter, you may love this video too ...

First: The pilot deserves an Oscar for his skills. That flight was elegant and realistic.
Second: The natural metal painting is amazing.
Congratulations!
Armafly *_Thank you for the compliments!_*
*Much appreciated*
Was there a little 'pucker factor' as you did the inverted pass? :-)
Beautiful flying - but dude, the low-level roll was a bit dodgy. He literally came within inches of smearing that beautiful plane all over the runway.
Armafly pilot is Ali Machiny who works at horizon hobby in the hangar 9 team
Outstanding performance with an outstanding aircraft, bravo!
That close call with the grass when performing an upside down flight was scary!
This isn't my interest. Ordinarily I go for the B17, M109, P51 etc. BUT this was great. A fine model, well flown.
Thank you!
_Usually I prefer warbirds as well, but I'm also interested in fighter jets._
_Thank you for watching and commenting !_ 😎👍
This is a F-104G not a F-104A/C, the 104A/C was the US model and the G version was German or Dutch, Danish, belgium operrated, look at the Tail Fin it has the Great Ruder of the G Model not the short one like F-104A/C, markings are correct for A/C version.
Some German owned F-104G were stationed in the USA for Pilottraining with US markings but this planes were in fact Luftwaffe planes with US markings, later when the germans phased out the F-104G some of this US based planes were sold to the NASA , this was the first time that the USA operated the F-104G Model.
during the 60s,70s and 80s i saw many F-104Gs coming in at treetop level during exercises, the lowest was a airsuperiority Grey Dutch F-104G flying ca. 15 to 20 meter low with high speed and passed my position in 75 meter then a Dutch F-5A followed behind the F-104G , Breathtaking this sound and Kerosin (F-34) smell
But i love this Vid need one of this Giant 104s
You might be right, but the paint sheme is the same as the A/C ... _have a look at Google images_
Thank you for watching and commenting. Much appreciated !!!
@@RCScaleAirplanes
Yes i mentioned that the markings/painting is correct for a F-104C Version, i have the same painting on Hasegawas F-104C plastic model in 1:48 scale :).
Your RC F-104 and flying are perfect, low level passes like a real 104.
Sad that i have never seen such giant RC planes in my country
The full scale aircraft was affectionately known as the “Widow maker” The builder of this fine model is married and authentically turns it into a smoking hole in the ground, we can name it the “Divorce maker” The only thing missing is that dark trail of “Here I am” smoke from the J79! All kidding aside a very nice representation of the Starfighter.
_Thank you for your great comment._ 👍😉
Very impressive, but I wouldn't want to be impaled by that thing. It is the widow maker after all.
Wow that looks so very real. Congrats! My dad flew the F9 Panther in Korean War.

That's a superb 104 -- as I always think with this airframe - how come the darned wings are so narrow and yet get enough lift. Hard to make wing loading math seem viable! - plus slight anhedral too :)
Wow - that rolling low pass was a close call - impressive.
Whole flight most enjoyable as well as nicely flown. What a sweet landing too. Nice one Horst :)
ChrisB257 put a big enough engine on anything and it will take off :)
That's exactly how I like to land, tail DOWN!
*_YESSSS_* 👍😉
What a stunning model , beautifully flown , and landings 😀
Funny thing. In real life I'd only ever seen a 104 going flat out in a straight line 😆
We had several of them locate us aboard USS Nimitz out in the Med. The guy who buzzed the bridge knew the right path to take in away from Sea Sparrow launching arcs. I didn't think the Germans were still flying them in '78. Supposedly he had permission to make the incoming run, escorted by a F-14, but you could see the Tomcat had just reached his 6 after he allready closed on the bridge and lit his burner to get out of there. You could tell the Tomcat was pissed and was having a hard time horseing the big Grumman out after him.
An awesome rc plane of a legendary aircraft…Excellent work….I imagine that with Hellenic air force insignia 🇬🇷….
Thank you for your kind comment which I really appreciate.
Beautiful aircraft and an awesome display of airmanship flying it! I've flown aerobatic aircraft and I can attest that it is much easier to fly from the cockpit than from what flight simulators call "tower view" or what you RC folks do when flying with a controller from fixed position on the ground. My father was a 28 year USAF pilot, starting with the P-38 in WWII and extending to the F-104 in his last assignment in Germany in the late 50's. He would have got a kick out of this video!
Those stall easily due to small wing area, takes real skill to fly those. Great flying, impressive...
nice plane...Though completely Reckless behavior performing a barrel-roll 16" from the ground with spectators 25' away.
Magnificent jet given by USA to PAKISTAN but they made it look like a joke. IAF killed many of those during wars.
Der schönste Jet der Welt!
best ever RC model?
Philip Eagles *Big THANKS !!!*
No question
Amazing model of a great plane.
Loved the roll just feet above the deck.
Great drivers loved the F-104, but inexperienced and poor pilots died flying/landing it.
Too bad the USAF wanted expensive multi-role fighter/bombers. (like the F-105 Thud)
The F-104 was the best fighter-interceptor of it's day.
Seriously? I don't wanna sound like a jerk, but this aircraft did nothing well. Except go fast, climb like hell, and crash from engine problems or tricky low speed characteristics. It couldn't turn at speeds where its engine was happy, wasn't very maneuverable at typical dogfight speed ranges , and didn't have enough fuel to stay in a prolonged fight or have the range to be a good interceptor. They rarely or never saw combat when we used them, and never made any kills that I'm aware of (in U.S. service)...it was a neat aircraft, I wouldn't call it a good aircraft. Much less the best.
@@ltr4300
Yeah, that's the internet know it all types spreading half truths and bullshit.
Used properly, employing energy tactics,
No fighter of its day could deal effectively with what the 104 could potentially bring to the table in a dogfight.
USAF doctrine and training and politics at the time is what stifled the utility of the F104 as a air superiority fighter.
Not the capabilities of the plane.
By today's standards its hopelessly out classed by modern fighters... but even then.
Back in the late 70s early 80s once upon a time veteran aggressor pilots flying F104s took on and beat the hell out of some new F15A drivers in mock
Combat... took the eagle pilots some time to figure out how to beat the vets in the 104s
Beautiful airplane and an excellent remote pilot. Looks exactly and flys exactly like the big, grown up one. Fell in love with the widow maker the first time l laid eyes on it during the Vietnam conflict. Never get tired of seeing or hearing this piece of artwork. If this were put in a movie, it could fool any observer into thinking this was the real thing.
One question though, it stops on the ground as though it has brakes. Does it really have a disc braking system on the landing gear and when do we get to see the details of this marvelous model. More close up info, please.
One more thing, that pilot has some really big nads to pull off that low level victory roll. Well done, excellent pilot! You need to be flying the real ones.
