Unbelievable planes/models....I'm amazed that they've installed jet engines and can fly them...but then we've got the age of drones so...but pretty sweet!
I grew up with the f-104 it was an Intercepter not a Fighter. It could not go straight up at take off nor could it turn like this model. I loved the sounds of the engine, was my favorite plane when I was a kid. The Germans loved this plane but lost alot of people in it
> [...] it was an Intercepter not a Fighter. Wrong. Kelly Johnson and Company designed it to be a daylight air superiority fighter, not an interceptor, to satisfy the wish list of Korean War fighter pilots who wanted something that could take on and win against MiGs, not bombers. When the U.S. Air Force asked other aircraft manufacturers to come up with alternative bids for Lockheed's unsolicited F-104 proposal, they asked for a daylight air superiority fighter to replace the F-100, not the F-101 or F-102 (which later became the F-106) which were their interceptors. And after the Air Force got the F-104, part of the reason why they wanted to get rid of it was the F-104 didn't cut it as an interceptor because of it's limit fuel. (The F-104 could take off and climb like crazy, but its limited fuel and the early J-79s meant that if the target was flying high enough, then the F-104 would only be able to intercept the target when it was over the base that the F-104 was presumably defending.) > It could not go straight up at take > off nor could it turn like this model. The model didn't go straight up at takeoff either so I don't know what you're talking about. As for turning, there any number of RUclips videos that show that a real F-104 could do the maneuvers that the model does although it might require more speed and space (altitude) to do so.
The F 104 was named "Widowmaker" or "Flying Coffin" in Germany after the Deutsche Luftwaffe wanted to turn a fair-weather hunter into an egg-laying wool milk sow. After buying the F104, Germany had nothing to do in a hurry to turn it into a fighter-bomber, which was hopelessly overloaded with its stub wings. In the years from 1960 to 1991, 269 of 916 planes crashed, 116 pilots died. Other NATO countries with starfighters were not nearly affected by such problems. Strauss retrofitted the Starfighter to an extent that was no longer manageable. In addition to the bomb system, dozens of other special requests were added, autopilot, infrared visor, complex computer systems, multi-purpose radar and so on. The pilots had to fight through thousands of pages of instructions before entering their cockpit, where they had to watch over dozens of displays at the same time and could hardly see out of the window. Maintenance regulations weighed almost three hundredweights. The causes of the crash were varied, sometimes technical, sometimes human failure. And all because of NATO's decision in 1959: Afterwards, some of those European allies that were not nuclear powers should also be armed with nuclear weapons. Strauss saw the chance of a German atomic bomber fleet. He was so troubled by the worry that NATO might revise its decision to stop listening to warnings.
I have also a good tip. I see some planes with landing gear malfunctions(on whole youtube canals) And when they land, they have a lot of damage. And that makes sad,off coarse. So when you strechted a great net ,between two sticks stoken in the ground, where they fly their malfunctional plane in it. That results a better landing, instead of a 'normal' landing, with lots of damage and mostly a carbage landing(putting in the bin😂)
Thanks. There is no afterburner on this jet. Due to the enormous fuel consumption by using a turbine with afterburner it makes no sense of using. Also because the power/weight ratio of Rc aircrafts doesn't require the extra power of an afterburner.
I had been to many air shows, but very rarely the F-104 was seen there. Mostly you can see Albatros L-39, BAE Hawk, and other trainers. Sometimes also F-16 or Panther F-9. _Thank you for watching and commenting !_ 👍
Just wondering, how far do your Controls reach? After a minute or two, are you at the edge of sending commands to the plane, if it is far away? Unlike a drone, these things can cover distance quickly
Yes it has a telemetry system, which gives you any data you want on the TX radio ... even by audio. But many of the pilots don't need it, because it can be also disturb your concentration while flying.
For those that may not know (I know just a little) this rc pilot is as expert as an expert is going to get. Actual jets are not like prop planes. You have to plan ahead and cannot just power your way out of slow speed situations. It can take several seconds for jet engine to do what you wanted it to do 5 seconds ago. Here, this a model jet being flown WITHOUT the ability to feel the aircraft. I dont know if there is some sort of telemetry that the rc pilot can use to know the airspeed of the jet (lord, I would not doubt they make tiny pitot tubes), but regardless of all of this, the ability for him to fly so slowly and accurately and safely during that first low speed pass is amazing, and this notwithstanding the perfect aerobatics he does. This is a remarkably feat of rc flying, never mind the amazing 104 model he's flying.
_Thank you for your great comment, which I really appreciate !_ 👍😎 Modern Rc remote controls are capable of transmitting telemetry in real time. On request also in voice output. However, the pilot rarely looks at the display, as he focuses primarily on the flight.
Well...WOW is just not enough to describe this! PERFECTION in modeling, performance, scale, piloting skills, and photography!! Best I have ever seen in any of those categories!!
I consider the F-104 to be one of the most beautiful airplanes ever built. This model is perfection, down to the distinctive howl through the intakes on the sides. I heard it when rolling down to the takeoff area. An unexpected, but very pleasant surprise. And a great flight also! So, the way we give a compliment here in the southeastern USA..." Ya' done good!"
The first time I saw a radio controled F-104 was about 1980. It was 1 to 1 scale and landed with a hole in the vertical stableizer about 1 yard in diameter from being hit in an AA missile test.
If there is such a thing a "RC Perfection" I believe I just witnessed it. Beyond description, especially the on board aerial footage. Just like being inside an aerobatic airplane (which I have been).
No words, belissimo! Sometimes I tried to drop from my chair! Pilot Bravo! So soft landing of this “widow-maker” its great! Thank you a lot, I had an ocean of nostalgia because she was an icon in jets of my youth. Best regards.
Wow! The sound! The cameras! The details! The SOUND! REALLY F*CKING COOL! The profile and performance is just amazing... And it's about time we see someone with a super RC jet like this with American decals and theme. Thank you for this. Can someone tell me how much this gentleman invested in building this masterpiece? My hats off to him ... wonderful masterful job!🍻🍻👍🏻👍🏻

The F104 Starfighter is for me one of the most beautiful planes of the history. I build one in 1/48 scale then another in 1/32 (non flying models). I am proud enough of them ;) This one is absolutly wonderful and amazing !! I know that it is a flying arrow (or a rocket...) and you must be careful of stall in some cases, in real as with scale model. Flying it smoothly is the better way to show it. Low pass at slow speed are really exciting !! Front leg seems to have a problem. Next step : inside machine gun that works !! ;-D
This just made me smile! I grew up building model airplanes and this is one of those that really takes the cake for me. I wonder why there are 59 people who gave thumbs down on this? What the hell is their problem? Maybe they thought they were looking for let’s say dog biscuits or cat nip or something?
My dad was a 104 IP in the 60's, so I got to watch the 104's in the pattern at Luke AFB. I have to say this presentation brings back alot of memories. Now if you could get the J79 smoke trail and the shrieking howl . .
Hi Bill. I also remember the time when the F-104 flying over our village. The airbase was around 25 miles away. As far as the sound of the jet engine concern, it is possible to generate a similar screaming sound, but it will be very difficult and time intensive because it depends on the kind of exhaust pipe. I've seen / heard jets which came very close to the sound of the J79 turbine.
@@RCScaleAirplanes you can never get away from a proffer well running Roar a jet engine. I grew up at the end of the runway at the Naval Air Station in Marietta Georgia. Of course we could not put the Good China up in a China cabinet because the planes would bust everything but my mom bless her heart kept everything safe and sound long as she was around
I've seen this bird before, and I thought it was presented by you, Horst. A secondary segment showed it with the wingtip tanks removed. Either way, it's a phenomenal aircraft and we're lucky to have you record these beauties in such a detailed manner.
Next level filming 😀👍👍👍 the angel off the ombord cameras are so amazing to watch! Maybe the best rc video i have ever watched! And i watch a lot off them! And are making some myself and know how hard this is to do! Again! Amazing work 👍👍👍👍😀
Ear;ly 60"s the F-104 was built at Canadair Plant at Cartierville Airport Montreal . From my office window at Air Canada could see them take off for flight testing
Excellent landing ...... “To make landing speeds “reasonable,” The F-104 forced engine air through the wings to smooth the airflow and give more lift. With bleed air, the Zipper could land at the challenging but not extreme speed of 160 to 165 knots. If the air-bleed system was not working, landing speeds climbed to 240 knots.”
One of the best models I have seen, perfection, and skill... it actually seems to be aerodynamically better suited at this scale than the original. Just shows the engineering of Lockheed.

Wrong.
Kelly Johnson and Company designed it to be a daylight air superiority fighter, not an interceptor, to satisfy the wish list of Korean War fighter pilots who wanted something that could take on and win against MiGs, not bombers.

So, the way we give a compliment here in the southeastern USA..." Ya' done good!"
Couldn't agree more! Thanks for your awesome comment, which I really appreciate !!! 🤙😎
Wow, love the resolution of those onboard cameras!
The first time I saw a radio controled F-104 was about 1980. It was 1 to 1 scale and landed with a hole in the vertical stableizer about 1 yard in diameter from being hit in an AA missile test.
The best RC pilot I have ever seen in my 20 plus years of flying. That flying pencil is a proper handful.
Does the audience have up side down ejacktion seats
If there is such a thing a "RC Perfection" I believe I just witnessed it. Beyond description, especially the on board aerial footage. Just like being inside an aerobatic airplane (which I have been).
No words, belissimo! Sometimes I tried to drop from my chair! Pilot Bravo! So soft landing of this “widow-maker” its great! Thank you a lot, I had an ocean of nostalgia because she was an icon in jets of my youth. Best regards.
Never, ever, saw anything like this! Absolutely top notch!
_Thank you very much for your great comment. Glad you enjoyed the flight !!!_
Super cool!! Now all you need is an RC "Starship Enterprise" to chase! (TOS, "Tomorrow is Yesterday" episode).
I just made the same comment! Nice to see another Star Trek fan here!!!
Wow!
_Thank you for your kind words. Much appreciated !_ 👍😎
Since this is the very first (prototype) of the F104 of this size, it's difficult to tell you the correct price, but it's probably around $45k
@@RCScaleAirplanes Hey thanks for the reply. And that's what I kinda guessed it was in the range of...just a weee (3 e's) bit out of my pay scale for the next 20 years..lol But man, you did a helluva job making that super sweet! I've never seen one with so many camera angles, and that's just crazy dedication to your craft... my hats off to you again🎩👍🏻
@@CaseyFinSF _Thanks again!_ 👍😎
Just to remind you ... I'm only the guy behind the scenes 😉
Most of the pilots are friends of mine.
_Cheers_
@@RCScaleAirplanes My mistake, well pass along my kudos to the guy with this plane. Exceptional and masterful work on this one. A work of aerial art as it were.
The camera layout is another level of craftsmanship that should be given all the accolades and high praise for taking it over the top.
Thanks for taking time to respond.
Keep up the great work 👍🏻👍🏻🍻

Never mind. I'm glad to have the opportunity to attend this kind of events and doing some videos on such fantastic Rc aircrafts.
Thank you for the compliment. 👍😎
Next step : inside machine gun that works !! ;-D
Thank you for your great comment, which I really appreciate.
Yes. The front gear suspension has an issue. I'm sure they will fix it. 👍😉
This just made me smile! I grew up building model airplanes and this is one of those that really takes the cake for me. I wonder why there are 59 people who gave thumbs down on this? What the hell is their problem? Maybe they thought they were looking for let’s say dog biscuits or cat nip or something?
The people who gave thumbs down are probably incapable to fold a paper plane. *LOL*
This is freakin beautiful!
Hi.
No. I was never filming this Starfighter without wingtip tanks.
_Thank you for your kind comment. Much appreciated !_ 👍😎
Next level filming 😀👍👍👍 the angel off the ombord cameras are so amazing to watch! Maybe the best rc video i have ever watched! And i watch a lot off them! And are making some myself and know how hard this is to do! Again! Amazing work 👍👍👍👍😀
_Thank you for the compliments, which I really appreciate !!!_
Ear;ly 60"s the F-104 was built at Canadair Plant at Cartierville Airport Montreal . From my office window at Air Canada could see them take off for flight testing
In a word...perfection
Excellent landing ......
“To make landing speeds “reasonable,” The F-104 forced engine air through the wings to smooth the airflow and give more lift. With bleed air, the Zipper could land at the challenging but not extreme speed of 160 to 165 knots. If the air-bleed system was not working, landing speeds climbed to 240 knots.”
called Boundary Layer Control (BLC) just like C and D model F-4s.
Even if it crashed it’s still realistic
One of the best models I have seen, perfection, and skill... it actually seems to be aerodynamically better suited at this scale than the original. Just shows the engineering of Lockheed.
TOP !!!
*Danke !* 👍😎
Wow, never seen such a scale flying, congrats to the pilot.
