You know how much $$$ of R & D of aftermarket manufacturers you guys have saved them by posting this for free…?….👍🏻 I truly admire your fearless devotion fellas! You Rock guys!
How well written the notes are at 7:00 brought a tear to my eye. As a millennial doing this, seeing him handwrite all of that cam timing info is amazing too me, and having it be legible is insane. Keep up the content Greg, and make a Patreon so we can help you buy new camera gear or fund your personal projects that Pete, and Kevin can help you with.
As a fellow custom car builder I really appreciate your troubleshooting skills. That skill has seemed to go by the wayside ever since computer controlled vehicles that tell you what's wrong. Bouncing ideas off other mechanics also helps when you are doing something that hasn't been done before. I'm always planning 3 steps ahead when I do unusual swaps especially when it comes to electrical. My hats off to you gentleman and I really enjoy your content. That car is going to kick ass when it's done.
Much respect for your team work. This is not a one man show. You guys represent what America is about. Bringing dreams to fruition by working together.
Just seeing him work on this makes me happy every day to be a mechanic because learning this all is fundamental. You're one heck of a guy Larry. Greg awesome job filming this documentary you are making something the world 🌎🌍 needs to see.
OMG! WOW & WTF 2!!! or, "I have always been crazy"- It keeps me form going insane! Most shocking? He is doing this without any factory help! Where/ why do you think the misfire is? Hey Greg, dont sell yourself short on your video quality. You doing an excellent job. Anyone complaining has no concept of what reality is. I bet 95% of the people watching have NO IDEA!! of what is involved/ required to do this job.
The crazy world of getting computer to read what it wants, I'd it is coming along as good as can be expected, lot of things to sort out, good progress.
Gregg congrates on ur latest round with V12 on the Flats man oh man ur so deserving of thousands athousands more Subs Thanks fer sharing real american hotroding ur Subjects r the best
I just went through all the same BS trying to make my PSI 8.8 run with the OEM 58x reluctor. Tried probably 6 different crank sensors... 8.1 sensors and 8.8 sensors. Some ran, some didn't and the ones that did, were terribly erratic and unreliable. I fianlly gave up and put an MSD flying magnet crank trigger on it and that cured all the CPS issues. I have a couple vids of it on my page.
I have to give props to this guy for making a big block work with a LT style engine with everything working as it was the 6.2L I feel like we could tune around all these issues and the transmission can’t handle big power yet. I know some things have been done to address that though. But I will say this guy is a great go getter, just needs to stop with the eyeball it and make it work, hopefully that crank sensor he made will work correctly but I feel like all of this again could be tuned through. I mean you need to change the tune regardless because it’s a bigger engine and a larger volumetric efficiency. I feel like it’s running lean I’d like to see the STFT’s and the LTFT’s
I can fix the location of the map sensor inside the calibration if that is your issue. I had sent you an email. Having the cam off reading will affect your fuel pressure also as the ECM doesn't know what the proper centerline is and won't be able to time the solenoid on the pump properly.
It sounds like you changed where you are reading position from and it cuts the travel signal in half because of the gear reduction that is now in the reading output if it if reading position from the crank instead of the cam. If this is the case and you are trying to not change the ECM at all so it doesn't know you could convert the signal with a simple ARDUINO SOC computer, just have it do the math conversion or read it back off the cam but on the other end of the cam if you have access to the other end of the cam where it ends in the block! I was always one to do stuff like this that nobody thought could be done or said can't be done! Ya just can see how it would work in your head but you can't always show someone else that easily!
I've always been a skeptic of 'mechanical' VVT ever since it came on the scene. It always seemed like a snake oil kind of a thing to me. Anyway, I recently had an experience that has turned me against it 100%. I recently acquired a nice, one owner 2013 Ford Expedition with a 3-valve 5.4 in it with the typical high mileage timing chain/cam phaser issues. In the process of getting it fixed, I stumbled onto a thread about locking out the cam phasers and disabling the VCT in the PCM and thought it was interesting, so that's what I did. Wow, what a night and day difference it makes in the way these engines run. It runs smoother and has more power than it ever had, especially at cruising speeds - e.g. when you're cruising at a fixed speed and then need to mash on the gas to accelerate, etc. So far, the ONLY negative thing I can find about disabling the VVT (or VCT) is a slight reduction in average highway gas mileage numbers. It was like a lightbulb moment - suddenly, I realized that the whole VVT bs was really just a scam to achieve better fuel economy, at the sacrifice of horsepower, perpetrated by the US Govt. Poppycock!

I'm going to buy one of those Autels, we have one at work, I run a mobile side business, my Solus Edge supposedly had the wifi chip fail, and they wanted $850aud for software updates even though it was at 2021 and $1600aud for the main board, so I told them to get F'ed and paid the $75 for it to be shipped back and now it's sitting in my tool box dead. I can get an Autel just like that one for $2100 Australian, Snap-off's is all I can say, they would make Ned Kelly bluff with their highway robbery.
Is this thing running off the stock ECU untuned? I have a hard time thinking that with DI the stock ignition and injection timing is going to play nice with your custom big block heads. Even cam position and phasing can affect direct injection because the fuel pump is run off the cam.
Any way to make an engine harness "extension cord" so you don't have to keep removing/reinstalling the engine? Lot of work, but you guys are doing great!
I say slap a 1050 dominator on that unit, install an MSD ignition and go rip! Lol just kidding… I am amazed at the work that’s been done and before long it’ll be a driver.
Also, if you can't add a software offset due to computer limitations, make the sensor on an adjustable mount, so have the case remade so that there is a boss with a o-ring groove and three bolts to fasten it so it can spin 360 degree.
@@highlanderc the timing pulse, so there is a signal that has a section with different timing, that is how you know you're at 0, so there might be 360 timing points, or 3,600 from that 0 mark in the software. But where the software picks up is programmed into the software, so it might see the odd pulse, the 4 pulses after, so you set the program to 0 at the start or end of the odd pulse. Well you can pick any timing sector in the software from that odd pulse to be the 0 mark. The computer doesn't know what the pulses mean, it just will set 0 where you tell it to.
As much as the engine is in and out i think by now he couid have built a stand alone test rig that simulates being in the car with out being in the car
WOW..GM SHOULD MAKE A 427 BIG BLOCK OHV V8 TRUBUTE CAR. NOTHING SOUNDS LIKE A BIG BLOCK AND WITH THAT PORT AND DIRECT INJECTION THAT THING WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BE AN ABSOLUTE MONSTER OR A CIVILIZED DAILY😊
Amazing project. But other than saying, I did it, why? The new ZR 1 makes damn near 1000 hp. This may do a bit more but I believe it's not super charger equipped. True ,there's nothing like a big block but it seems a lot of work for very small gain. It is an amazing build but a ZO 7 option may be my choice.

I agree. Everybody else is just bolting on turbos and superchargers. This is unique and old school. Love it
any update coming out soon. love watching this build come along
That camshaft phasing job you did is going to drive someone crazy in the future 😂
I was thinking the same thing 😅
How so?
It just keeps improving and working I can't say enough at how impressed I am with this project.
The car at @14:28 sounds incredible. This is probably one of my favorite things I've seen.

I cant imagine the work and cost involved in making 1 off direct injected big block cylinder heads.....impressive feat no question!
Big Block makes everything better.

surprised that Gm performance hasn't reached out to them..............
I missed working in the shop, for about an hour.
I think Zora would approve!
Larry’s patience and determination is to be commended. I am rooting for you Larry 👍
Once this tech can make it on to a zz632, itll be hard to beat!
Big Block corvette 496 Cubic inch i love it cant wait to see you drive it!! They Should make this from the factory
gm should be offering this man help for free

I am sure that Larry will get that working in the Corvette as he's envisioned it to. Thanks for the video 👍💪✌
The long stick with the pickup on it is pretty clever!

Smart dudes deep deep pockets
A+ for patience

Larry is the man!
Wow, Greg just, WOW! I have no better words! Please keep them coming. 1000%
Nice to see an update. Still wish you were closer, would love to help with the tuning side of things once the quirks are worked out.

Traction is going to be an issue on this one.
and it was an issue before the big motor went in.............
Love to see something different 🔥
Nice! Progress!
Optimistically waiting on this one👍

Very good good job guys
Very interesting,
Very!
Not like the old days when all u needed was a voltage regulator...lol
also the voltage would be different on the 2 crank sensors, original being 12v and later 5v
Awesome.
Any updates on this car? I would love to see it at the drag strip!
Need to see dyno for that torque curve . Probably make a good truck motor ???

Why?
Where can we buy the heads? Are you still gonna make some?
Why would you not just put a 16 degree offset into the cam timing by software?
Also, if you can't add a software offset due to computer limitations, make the sensor on an adjustable mount, so have the case remade so that there is a boss with a o-ring groove and three bolts to fasten it so it can spin 360 degree.
