Huge respect to you, Sir, from across the pond. I cant imagine the amount of alcohol consumed when came up with the idea to mate a big block still on a cross plane, then direct inject it and mate it to that DCT , and to do all of that to a new 100 grand car😂You really are the spirit of modern hot rodding and i have so much respect for you.
@@jpschargedare you being funny? Or did you just mix up cross plane and flat plane V8s? The cross plane is in all the base Corvettes and all recent Corvettes till the Z06 and ZR1 came out. Those use the flat plane crank but this one came factory with a cross plane crank in it like nearly every other American V8 in existence.
Cant forget big blocks didnt have vatiable valve timing either which means its and updated big block like if the factory was allowed to do it if the epa wasnt in the picture except sorted out already. And yes the guy above me is right this is a cross plain cranked vet from the factory its a stingray. The only cets to vome flat plain are the zo6 and zr1 c8 versions.
@@user-bt6hh9yu1n I like DCT cars but unfortunately looks like GM has a lot of headaches with the one on the C-8s with lots of failures and issues. They just issued an owner advisory to keep a close watch on the trans and do maintenance early. If I had one of these I would make sure I kept up the warranty to avoid a very expensive repair on the owners dime.
This would absolutely ruin this build, I have a feeling you’ve never been in a C8 the button bridge would not allow for a 6 speed conversion. You would literally have to redesign the whole interior.
Larry - that thing is absolutely amazing. The work that you’ve done, and the attention to detail is second to none. A C8 with a big block? Man, that’s a dream come true. Can’t wait to see it all tuned and the smile on your face when you light up those tires. Thanks for the video, guys.
Huge respect for executing this incredibly complex swap! This swap is a perfect example of the definition of "Hot Rodding". A throw back to what the boys were doing 70 years ago when engine swaps were a common thing. Thank you Greg for covering the out-of-the-box innovators of the industry!
Adding power of a big block, Larry was discussing the torque of the big block subtracting timing...but the DCT really complicates things...getting the trans to work with the change in power aka the trans computer working with the engine computer. Not only is the DCT the weak link with all C8's but figuring out the programming with encrypted ECM and TCM is a real challenge. If Larry can get everything to play nice together, he is truly a mastermind or...a master at getting masterminds that hack the C8's computers o create a driveable car that won't fry the clutches. He may need to tear into the trans and beef up the clutches like others who have added turbos. What Larry is doing is much easier on a manual transmission car with separate custom ECM. The DCT makes modifying the Corvette powertrain a real nightmare.
Why not just put a rear transaxle from a C7 in there and bolt up the engine directly without the torque tube, T-6070, 6L80e, 8L90e...all should work fine.
Time 650 Torque management HP Tuners has an article that goes over modern GM torque management. Basically, a lot of the vehicles systems have a say in how much torque the engine will make when the driver requests torque.
I really hope you guys documented all of the modifications required and the dimensions of the parts required for later fabrication. The goal of the whole process should be to develop and kit and modification procedure. A good tune with torque management deleted will help alot. Modern cars have WAY too many tables governing the engine operation. I'd love to a see an aluminum block stack injected version of this. Love it! Keep it up!
I really like the exhaust note, not too loud. The intake sound is amazing, a real big block alright! Can't wait to see more, so very nice of Larry to take us all along Greg, cheers 👍💪✌

Well done. Love seeing the spirit of car crafting live on. Takes me back to the Real Street Eliminator days of Car Craft magazine, brought the best out of enthusiasts. Now all that C8 BBC needs is AWD….

THIS is Unreal.... The average person solves the 8.1L problems with a cam, intake manifold and cylinder heads. This goes about 50 steps further adding Direct Injection, VVT and OEM Integration into a brand new platform.
Amazing amount of wotk - hats off. Having plyed a bit with Gen 5 engine management the torque control stuff is incredibly involved & not all that intuitive. I'm sure you'll get it sorted.

The only thing that could make that build cooler is a 6 speed manual. Awesome build!
If they can make that work with the dct ,it'll be easy to make it work with a manual. 😊

Tcm box does exist. Cicio performance has one I believe. They did it with Dodson clutches.
It will just take time to figure it out like other Dct’s and everything else these days
