Looks Amazing! I love how weathering gives so much character to a piece. Sometimes, before finishing a prop I feel reluctant to weather it. But you just have to push on and the weathered look always look better!
Seal it before doing weathering. Acrylics are not that difficult to remove. Do a test on spare piece, just to get how it all works. Don't be afraid to ruin it, start with the pieces that are easy to remake. Even if you ruined it, you gained exp :) And one more thing with weathering -- less is more.
Great build! And thank YOU for this series- watching these helped me make my first foam armour pieces, the wrist bracers for Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, and I think they came out pretty good- thanks!
That was the goal, but the curing time on the neoprene turned the process into two days. The Varnish stink didn't go away for a few days after that as well, haha.
Totally amazing...you have given me the confidence and knowledge to attemp my first foam build....I’m guna try an Ironman helmet....soon.....ish.....hopefully....so thank you sooo much for all the content...this was an amazing series of vids...you guys are fantastic!
Creature cast is amazing. I remember bill's other video with him talking about it. I've been using it with my charizard armored gijinka cosplay. I will never use anything else but that.
Punished Props I want to thank you. As a cosplayer for many years I never tried armor before. After studying all the videos you guys had put out it had helped me. I'm not on the level of you guys but hopefully someday I will lol.
It was great meeting you, too! Thank you for going along with our silly filming. You were such a hit at the photoshoot with all the posing and dancing! D
First ... Your Sweeperbot is AMAZING and a brilliant costume! Your channel is a "must go to" for learning how to construct costumes. Thank you! My question is how does the creature cast compare to plastidip? It seems to be more durable and wear resistant.
Glad you like our channel! They're both pretty durable. I'm finding the neoprene is less prone to wrinkling when flexed. I also like that CreatureCast doesn't have the off-gassing fumes that PlastiDip has. We try out PlastiDip and Neoprene in our foam sealing video: ruclips.net/video/ug6Rs06FEpk/видео.html
Canned air, sprayed into your casting resins will remove any moisture. It will increase the shelf life of most casting resins and silicones by a significant amount.
Glad this video was helpful! The leather paint we've tried is a super flexible acrylic with a nice amount of pigment. It does stay tacky for a day or two, but it's totally worth it.
Hey Bill, I know this is an older post, but I would like to know your suggestions for painting flexible paint in Eva? I’m attempting a piggy head from micro tunes, and I anticipate a fair amount of abuse. By the way, I love foamsmith! Lots of amazing tips and tricks, the photos are awesome, and it is my go to reference manual when I get the urge to create!
It depends on how dry your paint is underneath, the temperature and humidity when you sprayed it and while it's drying, and what kind of varnish your'e using. Typically the varnish we use dries in an hour or so on a nice dry day.
Will I simply be able to apply the Angelus orange over 3 coats of Fulldip? I've tried using spray paints but the foam tends to leave itty-bitty tiny pitholes.
Yep! The pit holes will be there depending on the quality of your foam. Floor mats tend to have more while foam from places like TNT Cosplay Supply or SKS Props will be more smooth.
There isn't a smell, but I would recommend wearing a respirator when spraying it. It isn't toxic, but you still don't want to breathe in any particulate.
Sure! Bill used a similar weathering process on his Storm Trooper blaster, which was a Nerf toy--similar to ABS plastic: ruclips.net/video/q2PKmhSB4aA/видео.html
just bought some creature cast and thickener but I'm having trouble adding multiple coats to my project. the second coat beads up and doesn't go on evenly on top of the first coat. I've tried lightly sanding in-between coats, but I either end up taking off to much of the first layer or the new coat still rolls off the the small bits i might have missed with sanding. have you guys had this problem? what have you done to fix it? Btw i love your series!
Are you brushing the creature cast on? If so, make sure there is no water on your brush. Water in a freshly-cleaned, wet brush may make the neoprene bead up. We personally haven't had neoprene bead up, as long as we add thickener (and keep it away from water.)
Hey Brit, I have a question, can you please explain when to use matt or gloss varnish? Thanks a lot ^^ because I was wondering why u are using matt instead of y glossy one :)
I tried several kinds of varnishes for bending foam parts, but its always cracks. Do you use some special kind (I've heard that some art varnishes ar elastic) or its just tiny amount of any type?
If its just for halloween, maybe wear it twice, what would you recommend? I'm sealing with mod podge. Can i just paint directly over that with acrylic or latex paint? Or can I paint directly over the EVA foam?
You can totally paint right onto mod podge! We did that in our Sea of Thieves Skull video: ruclips.net/video/Su4KAtkODhE/видео.html You can also absolutely paint straight onto heat sealed foam. That's what Bill did for his Mass Effect Defender armor: ruclips.net/user/edit?o=U&video_id=MYGWyppn3bc Also check out this video where we go over a whole bunch of methods for sealing foam for paint: ruclips.net/video/ug6Rs06FEpk/видео.html Hope this helps! - Paige
This is really cool, and I was wondering if you could help me a bit? I'm trying to (A. Make a beretta auto nine from Robo Cop 3D model and (B. Trying to make a foam/wood Ronans warhammer (guardians of the Galaxy :3) but am having trouble finding reference Images (especially for the beretta) do you have any tips for finding good reference images and dimensions? Thanks :)
What's your siphon gun thingie setup? Casting neoprene's nigh impossible to find here, but maybe I'll be able to find some liquid latex. Wanted to try that so much since I saw your painting video, but what are the specs/the model of your siphon gun in general?
The Critter Siphon Gun link is in the description. Here is the process I used for Poly Latex 60 on my Assaultron: ruclips.net/video/Fccbopt1UaI/видео.htmlm19s Air Compressor at 25 PSI works well for us.
So, how would one go about sealing without having to use mess with an air compressor? I only have time to work on my props in the wee hours of the morning, and I'm not the only person in my domicile. I've not had any luck finding neoprene rattle cans at my local stores.
Looks Amazing! I love how weathering gives so much character to a piece. Sometimes, before finishing a prop I feel reluctant to weather it. But you just have to push on and the weathered look always look better!
It's so true!
Personally, weathering is my favourite part in any build :)
deadswordsman I always worry I'm going to ruin it! Especially on a piece that I spent ages on.
That's great advice!
No problem, your a great team of educators, anyone of any level can learn from you
It's a fantastic build. Thank you for sharing. You have the coolest laundry line.
Thank you! Our neighbors are pretty confused about our armor laundry.
Great build! And thank YOU for this series- watching these helped me make my first foam armour pieces, the wrist bracers for Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, and I think they came out pretty good- thanks!
So glad we could help!
Thanks Brittany! Great foamsmithing as always! ✨👍
You're welcome!
All in one day!? That's impressive
That was the goal, but the curing time on the neoprene turned the process into two days. The Varnish stink didn't go away for a few days after that as well, haha.
You and Bill are so awesome! What a great project you finished, thanks for sharing all the steps and tricks!
You're welcome!
Totally amazing...you have given me the confidence and knowledge to attemp my first foam build....I’m guna try an Ironman helmet....soon.....ish.....hopefully....so thank you sooo much for all the content...this was an amazing series of vids...you guys are fantastic!
It turned out awesome!
Creature cast is amazing. I remember bill's other video with him talking about it. I've been using it with my charizard armored gijinka cosplay. I will never use anything else but that.
Cool, happy it's working that well!
Punished Props I want to thank you. As a cosplayer for many years I never tried armor before. After studying all the videos you guys had put out it had helped me. I'm not on the level of you guys but hopefully someday I will lol.
It's tough to leave things to dry thoroughly when the deadline is close. We've all been there ☺
Absolutely beautiful build!
+canestrini808 Thank you so much!
Thanks for the shoutout!!! It was so fun meeting you two 😂😂
It was great meeting you, too! Thank you for going along with our silly filming. You were such a hit at the photoshoot with all the posing and dancing! D
Punished Props hahaha thanks for letting me join in the fun!! Hope to see you next year!! 😁😁
GREAT video. Love the t-shirt.
Thanks! :D

Beautiful armor. I'm currently working on ODST armor for Halo-Ween.

Thank you, I like yo build G!
Awesome job 👍
I got anxious when I saw large groups of people together but then I saw this was made in 2017
Isn't that crazy!
@@punishedpropsThis pandemic made us crazy
Sweet build!!
Love it!
very helpful
that intro was adorable.
Great video super helpful 😁

Great idea! Smooth-On sells a specific product for that very purpose.
Did you happen to measure how much neo-thix you used? Also what pressure did you find worked well to spray in the critter gun? Thanks!
It looks awesome and I learned alot. I keep wondering: why use leather paint for foam? :O
Glad this video was helpful! The leather paint we've tried is a super flexible acrylic with a nice amount of pigment. It does stay tacky for a day or two, but it's totally worth it.
Punished Props great! Thanks for answering!

Plaid Fx Paint is great for its flexibility: plaidonline.com/plaidfx
This makes me want to do a full armor build so bad
Do iiiiit! =D
Does that spray varnish take a long time to dry? A project I'm working on is still a little wet after 24 hours.
It depends on how dry your paint is underneath, the temperature and humidity when you sprayed it and while it's drying, and what kind of varnish your'e using. Typically the varnish we use dries in an hour or so on a nice dry day.
Where is all the footage of the sweeper bot at the con
The tiny bits of con footage we recorded with the Sweeper Bot are in this build series.
Amazing build! Also spoiler
Sweeper bots evillll! D:
That's Benedict, who has a different voice. I think the Sweeper Bot is still in the original tower! The rubble will be all clean when we return. :D
Punished Props oh.. my bad XD btw, your my second RUclipsr who replied to me! You have just made my night!
Wait a minute I’m like 90% sure I saw you in a living with chief video
Nailed it! ruclips.net/video/vI-uQwBLxes/видео.html
Can the two part neoprene be substituted with spray on rubber (Plasti Dip or similar)? Great and concise tutorial :)
Glad you liked the video! We've tried out some different spray on rubbers on foam in this other video: ruclips.net/video/ug6Rs06FEpk/видео.html
How did you make the broom?
Bill made the broom out of foam strips! :D There will be a video for the broom build--probably after the undersuit video.
That's so cool. I must have missed that video. Well this gives me a reason to watch it.
Is there a smell factor to the sprayed creature cast? Have been using rust oleum spray rubber cans, but the smell is awful.
There isn't a smell, but I would recommend wearing a respirator when spraying it. It isn't toxic, but you still don't want to breathe in any particulate.
Can the same steps be applied to weathering abs plastic?
TheNintroller I think so
Sure! Bill used a similar weathering process on his Storm Trooper blaster, which was a Nerf toy--similar to ABS plastic: ruclips.net/video/q2PKmhSB4aA/видео.html

I'm using both a brush and airbrush and getting the same results with both. ill try adding more neo-thix and stay away from wet tools. thank you!
So does the neoprene act as a kind of Primer? Is it much different then a standard primer or even Rustoleum rubber coat?
Yeah, it prepares the foam for painting. We go over the methods we've tried in our foam sealing test video: ruclips.net/video/ug6Rs06FEpk/видео.html
Hey Brit, I have a question, can you please explain when to use matt or gloss varnish? Thanks a lot ^^
because I was wondering why u are using matt instead of y glossy one :)
Depends on the surface finish you're trying to replicate. The Sweeper bot in Destiny is not shiny.
Great video. did you heat the pieces before adding the creature cast?
Thanks! Yeah, I heat seal my foam before I assemble the pieces together.
I tried several kinds of varnishes for bending foam parts, but its always cracks. Do you use some special kind (I've heard that some art varnishes ar elastic) or its just tiny amount of any type?
The rattle can varnish that we use is flexible. Perhaps if you put on too much of it, it'll get stiff. I've never had it crack though.
If its just for halloween, maybe wear it twice, what would you recommend? I'm sealing with mod podge. Can i just paint directly over that with acrylic or latex paint? Or can I paint directly over the EVA foam?

Sure! We talk about the different sealing methods we've tried for foam in this video: ruclips.net/video/ug6Rs06FEpk/видео.html
