  • How to switch from Intel HD graphics to dedicated Nvidia graphics card. Switch from Intel HD to NVIDIA GPU made easy, still working in 2024.
    If you have a laptop or other computer using 2 graphics card this is the tutorial for you. When Intel graphics is included some games and software run using it, but if you have a dedicated stronger Nvidia or AMD card you want to make sure windows uses that instead, this is how. This tutorial is a yet more improved version of the earlier one to avoid confusions.

      A few weeks back I had my Motherboard replaced , Today I found from my task manager that my laptop has selected Intel UHD 630 as dedicated before it was NVDIA 1050(I know its old , but still works). I also found NVDIA is set as shared memory not dedicated and , GTA5 Graphics settings is also not detecting it. Although the PC is detecting it for sure. I have tried using NVDIA control panel settings by setting Everything there to High Performance NVDIA graphics card , Does not work. The NVDIA doesn't seem to be used it's like 0% always.

    Personally I leave this setting on Auto. I also keep the little tray icon up so I can see what programs are running on the Nvidia card. The problem with selecting just the Nvidia card is that everything will run on it even if there is no benefit to it. This will have a tendency to bog down programs that can benefit from the use of the card. Typically the CPU is going to be better at off loading the graphics processing when not needed (because you are not using the low graphics program) and prioritizing other tasks. Especially on some lower end GPUs in laptops this can be an issue. That said you can also make sure that a particular program uses a specific card using these settings. It is rare that you would need to do this because the software is usually good at figuring out when it needs the 3d rendering.

      Kinda obviously you have to plug into GPU for the signals to your screen to come from the GPU... ...
      Unless the GPU failing that the system checks transfer a blocked path back to onboard graphics, it is unlikely the screen will get signals from elsewhere but your GPU.

Stumbled upon this video as I tried switching so i could follow affor mentioned tutorials. It worked!! Youre a life saver 😭😭😭😭 (think i left a dislike bc i was so frustrated but i tried taking it back lmaoo)

    Hey! I think I have the problem you mentioned at 4:10 on my laptop, but I didn't catch how to swap the graphics cards this way. Do you have any tips on how to work this out?

    • @optimumpr1de
      @optimumpr1de 2 года назад +1

      Pretty sure the way GPU works is a little *different* in a laptop than in a desktop.
      In a desktop, the integrated and discrete GPU are two completely different pieces of hardware, IE, you can connect your display direct to one, completely ignoring the other one, which meant that if you wanted to benefit from the discrete GPU, you have to hook your monitor directly to it.
      In a laptop, that works completely differently. All of display output is handled by the integrated graphics, only when you are doing 3D rendering (like games), would it transfer the calculations to the dedicated GPU, but it still requires sending the data through the integrated graphics to put it on your screen. IE disabling the iGPU effectively disables your display, your NVIDIA GPU *cannot* output directly to the display.
