Great video, Scotty. Have owned a 2003 Honda Pilot that we bought new in late 2002. Only has 110k miles, so low mileage. Is now on it's 3rd teenage boy driving it so it has not been babied. Only thing now is after 20 years, needing to replace a number of rubber parts...not really due to mileage, more due to time. Gives my boys and I something to do on the occasional weekend. Has been an extremely reliable vehicle for 20 years now.

This has: 2 hi, awd mode, 4hi, and 4 lo. The button you see puts it into “awd” mode. There is a button on dash left of steering wheel that locks it up like a traditional 4x4 if you want.
The “j shifter” version is the rarest. It has all I listed above plus locking rear diff on some models. 2000 is the holy grail for 4x4 configuration on 3rd generations.

We had a 1999 Toyota 4 runner 2 wheel drive, 4 cylinder and 5 speed manual transmission.
We pulled a 2,000 lb tent trailer from southern california across arizona, new mexico, to
colorado and into Utah. We even went up very steep roads sometimes at 25 mph. Pulling even that 1 ton trailer we got under 15 mpg.
This smaller suv did the job pulling that trailer over 3,000 miles that trip. On flat interstates
it can pull that trailer at near or over 70 mph.
We sold our 1999 4 runner with near 200,000 miles for near $5,000 in the year 2018 for a nearly 20 year old vehicle. We had no problem selling our 4 runner for $5K. Without the trailer it got near 25 mpg and could cruse at 80 mph no problems. The better mileage was a speeds closer to 70 mph.
The 4 runner had great ground clearance with lots of room in the back with the seat folded down.
Incredible as it sounds we now have a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan that will pull that 1 ton tent trailer even at 70 mph and gets near or over 20 mpg. The Grand Caravan has in incredible engine and drive train. It is an amazing vehicle. In the years near 2013 Dodge redesigned their 6 cylinder engine done by Domler Mercedes with the transmission.

Have a 2007 4Runner SR5 V6 I bought in 2019 that had 220k miles on it. Have 256k miles on it now and still going pretty solid. It did need some things in the first year or so of ownership, new power steering rack, radiator and brakes, but most of that's expected. Feel like it has less interior rattles than a lot of newer cars which is sad. Honestly I don't think it rides that badly either. I decided on a V6 rather than V8 since the V6 has a timing chain, but maybe a V8 wouldn't been a tad better if I wanted to tow more.
I undercoated the frame and subframe areas with POR15 to help it last longer/keep surface rust off. Planning to keep it until either the engine or transmission goes.
